2014 Ratings Thread

Everybody is complaining that 8.40 or 9 is too late?

Can anyone tell me when do you aussie guys sleep? Cos its pretty early hour. Its not midnight u know??

I personally find it a very awkward hour. I watch tv during dinner and go to bed between 930 and 10pm but I don't like tv being the last thing I do so if I watch tv I do it between 7pm and 9pm. I tend to watch about 10 mins of BB and that's it, I end up catching up with it a day later on IQ.

The French BB (Secret Story) on the eviction night it starts at about 10:00 pm and go on to almost midnight. I don't go to bed before midnight

It is quite odd isn't it people complaining 8.40pm is too late - for years this site was campaigning for it to move to 8.30pm. Many of those moaning it's too late are probably longing for Uplate to return as well!

Like the rest of Europe us Brits are used to BB being a late night show, usually starting around 10pm. Indeed in the UK when it launched it aired at 11pm, and then one specially extended episode had 7m watching at midnight and the rest was kind of history - it got moved to 10pm and went from strength to strength.

Aussie TV seems to have completely closed down though to focus only on one hour - they used to schedule competitively from 7-10.30pm, but now it seems to be 7.30-8.30pm, though "8.30pm" can be anything as late as 9.15pm!

After consolidated added - last Tuesday: 985,000 - 9.8% increase, 7th most time-shifted show.

No change in any ranking (ie 7th overall, 2, 2 , 2)

I would say last night's show did pretty bad, it was beaten comprehensively by Winners and Losers and was nearly beaten by Bringing Sexy Back in total viewers, both of which are pretty mediocre shows. It was also nearly beaten by Winners and Losers in all three demos.

At the rate it's going the show will be rating in the 500s in two weeks time, Nine better do something quick or the show is in danger of not returning next year.

From next week it will be an eviction epsiode on Tuesday nights. So ratings will be higher I presume.

When Big Brother came back to our screens in 2012, we saw a launch of 1.7mill, peaking at 2mill. The rest of the series averaged 1mill, and scored well for evictions and daily shows. The Grand Finale scored 1.5mill. In 2013 Big Brother twisted its way onto our screens, but the hype wasn't as Nine anticipated. Launch scored 1.3mill. Evictions and daily shows sunk to 800k, with the series averaging 890k, and the grand finale scoring 1.5mill. Both series were in the same timeslot, with similar competition, and a similar tv landscape. My question is, why did it fall so bad? I don't think it came down to the housemates, otherwise the hole series would have sunk below 1mill in 2012. Last year Big Brother was quite a flop ratings wise, yet was better than the 2012 series. This year big brother is doing well. In its timeslot. But the real question is why did the ratings crash after 1 year? Will it ever return to 2012 ratings figures? And how the HECK, are nine finding a way to F@#K Big Brother up? Fanks.

This could really be kept in the existing Ratings 2014 thread. Its still winning its timeslots, and scoring in demographics. So not much has changed yet. We'll see how it goes after the first noms & vics..

It's never actually hit #1 in any demos.

Second comes right after first!

Yeah exactly. So that means Nine would be happy with the way it is performing.
It will be interesting to see what happens once the Block is finished.

They will most likely move BB to a prime timeslot, 7.30, but halfway into the season, will it really pick up that many more viewers? I wouldn't think so...

Although, I'm a little conflicted. We are clearly being taken advantage of this season with BB, and they are clearly taking shortcuts. If they continue to get good ratings, it seems likely this will just continue on with further seasons.
