2012 US Presidential Election

Such a beautiful photo. Yay for Obama!

On channel 9 (ABC America coverage) they have

Obama - 303
Romney - 203

Scary times, the (alleged) majority voting to further enslave us all to the ever intrusive whims of Big Government and it's Socialist State and the petty greedy power addicted thugs it consists of and thus be governed by ever increasing evil.

How can ANY of you want such a thing for yourselves and such a world for your family and children !

Still, it surely can't be too much longer now before the rise of The Antichrist, WW3 and then, thankfully, the return of Jesus to put everything right at long last.

Obama is a wolf in sheeps clothing. It was always going to be Obama, no matter who the republicans had as their presidential candidate.

Happy for Americans:)

To ask , hey American posters, Gallagher etc, can you tell us why you guys have to vote on a workday?
Why is it so hard to vote, why the lines etc.

How long did you have to line up?

It all sounds insane to Aussies, our voting is compulsory and done on saturdays, and anyone ill or old or disabled or it's difficult in anyway to get there - they can do early and postal votes.
It's rather fun here, I love voting day and often work on counting and stuff.

Speaking only for myself, I've never considered it difficult to vote here, and I've lived in three different states. Interesting to read the reason we vote on Tuesdays, for me its just the ways its always been, you either get up early and go before work or vote after work. I understand early voting is pretty easy although I've never tried. I had to wait about 20 minutes today, no big deal the people there were friendly. There probably are places where its difficult to vote, but that's never been my experience.

I find your compulsory voting a bit odd. Only a small percentage of Americans vote, but I've always figured that the ones who vote are the ones who care, and the ones who are too lazy to get off their butts probably don't know much about the issues anyway. One question: Are you required to vote for every single office? When I know nothing about the candidates, I just skip over that office, but the first time I voted I remember picking judges because I liked their names.

we vote for our local member only. so like you guys vote in your county for say, your HOR member right? we do that too. but we dont pick our prime ministers. the winning party of the HOR already has their leader picked out whom becomes Prime Minister.

We also pick senate as well...

but we dont do judges. nor do we vote on props or anything like that.

compulsory voting gives a turnout over 90% which is great in some regards because its more representative, but shit at the same time because it means those who are not politically informed also get to vote and they really dont give a shit about the process.

Thanks. I voted some candidates today based on their party, but also skipped a lot of things that I just didn't have any way to make an informed decision.

I didn't realise it only got a 90% turn out.

It would be interesting to see if Australia could beat NZ in non-compulsory elections... I mean, we beat you in most things... in spite of our significantly smaller population.
