I enjoyed Alvin and the Chipmunks too nobodyZ. So did my daughter and her friend. There's been some pretty good movies these holidays.


And yeah spoiler tags would be appreciated as i haven't seen I Am Legend yet, that's some time this week.
 
Just saw I Am Legend...like pretty much everybody was let down but still overall was a great movie and I especially liked the monsters and the discourse that was brought with them.
Their roar was awesome and how the movie actually tapped into their behaviour.
However they hardly elaborated about the creator of the virus and her relationship with Neville(if there was one) and what went wrong.
Though I'm considering reading the books so perhaps they will cure my interest

From what I can gather (I read up on the wiki when I first heard about it), the characters, ending and story differentiate quite a bit from the latest movie. It sounds like it would have been better if they stuck to the original book. Also, there are 2 other movies that were made based on the book (The Omega Man and The Last Man on Earth), so I'll be checking them out also! Wiki it Sorceress for a really good run down on all of them.

Pretty depressing and unexpected ending :(

Read up a bit on the movie, and it only took 130k to shoot, made 30 million, and they actually used real sharks :eek:

I watched "the plot to assassinate Nixon" on SBS tonight.



This too was a rather depressing movie in parts, although to be honest
I did laugh in a couple of places where I think I shouldn't have. But overall
a sad little tale based on the true story of a man who plotted to hijack
an airliner and send it crashing into the White House.

In short a very good character study and deconstruction of a man's life
as he slowly spirals to the pit of despair and beyond the breaking point.

Yeh, but only reefies, which are harmless unless aggravated, or in the movie's case, if there is food just sitting there in the water, especially with urine and vomit around, which attracts them. When I went snorkelling last weeek I actually saw a little black tippped reefie (same sort of shark in the movie), which scared the crap out of me, even though I know they are pretty much harmless :P. This happened (the true story in which it was based on) quite close to where I live, and as someone affiliated with the diving industry, I can assure you that new measures were brought in to ensure something like that won't happen again. I actually spent xmas at the place where the true story happened, and my partner went diving while we were there (he is an avid diver and he is still with us :).
 
I know I'm very late in doing so, but I saw Beowulf at IMAX in 3D on Saturday.
The 3D was absolutely fantastic. Worth seeing the movie just for that.

And the story itself was suprisingly good.
 
Yeah that was good, in 3d. Also, I think "I am Legend" can be seen in 3d as well?

We watched "Pan's Labyrinth" on DVD on Friday night. It's a fine film, and interesting that Guillermo del Toro, the director, may also direct "The Hobbit".

The poor girl's life was a bit of a misery, no wonder the escapism. Get a load of that weird creature with the eyeballs in its hands - scary stuff. Well worth a look.

Yeah I looked at Wiki and found it interesting.
They have changed several things from the book,I'm going to read the books too.
The ending for the first book is very interesting...

Yup, it is, and I think the producers would have thought it would have changed the perception of the main character into a negative one, maybe that's why it was so different? I think the original ending would have been SO MUCH better though! It forms the whole basis for the title 'I Am Legend'.
 
Well for that kind of scenario a lot more work would have had to be done on certain aspects.
The thing with I Am Legend is it appears that certain parts seem to be neglected while others flourish.
For example,the plot was not as complete as it could have been but the visual effects are amazing.

Anyway I think they wanted a 'Hollywood ending' y'know(Hope that's not giving anything away as it can be taken in a few different ways).

Exactly what i thought too, magnificent special effects, not enough attention paid to the back story or characters. And yep, I think if they stuck with the original story, Will Smith wouldn't have been as liked, and with such a small 'normal' cast, i guess it's important for him to be liked hehe.
 
With excellent special effects it would be cool for IMAX 3-d. The other thing that is attacting me is the preview for the new Batman film, or the first 6 minutes or so, was the preview at IMAX before the Will Smith film.
 
I will be going to see "Cloverfield" as soon as it opens cause I know with as much build up as this movie has had I am bound to come across a spoiler accidentally if I leave it too long.

I've already heard its filmed like blair witch project :|
 
I loved "The Blair Witch Project" at the time - it made me want to go camping in the woods of Maryland. Even though it got a bit lampooned on "Scary Movie" (remember the crying in the tent scene?)
 
I'm dying to see Cloverfield. For once hype has really got to me. No doubt the film will be crap, but I've got to see what that monster is.

At least shakey cam syndrome will be expected since the film is told from the perspective of a personal camcorder. Shakey cam shits me to tears otherwise.
 
Shakey's not great, but I like it when it's like "The Bill", you know - moving camera, as the old Bill run into a hallway yelling out "You're nicked!"

The good and creepy thing about "The Blair Witch Project" was that you don't actually see the witch, more is left to the imagination, or even if it was a witch at all.
