Big Brother back in 2025 on 10! AND LIVE!

I only JUST saw news and was gobsmacked. It really looks like they're promising exactly what fans here have been clamoring for.

Not in a million years did I think they would actually do it though. The TV and social media landscape have changed so drastically. It's a massive risk on their part so I hope it works out.

I’m anticipating moderate success, probably at the same level as Australian survivor. I think the Australian public will respect that TEN are going old school with this. As much as I am open to a strategic element, I just don’t think it works culturally for Australia. It’s a wonder survivor resonates with audiences. But it’s more likely because TEN just know how to treat a reality show with the respect it needs.

Yes, unlike 7 who obliterated the franchise, I can't name a single housemate from the 7 era, apart from whichever season had the original housemates vs the newbies.

Going old school will be great as I believe most Aussies thrive for this sort of content. I am a little worried that all it is going to take is a housemate to say or do something that rubs a Karen viewer the wrong way and then they demand it gets cancelled.

The new reboot on Network Ten is already in a little bit of trouble, according to TV Tonight:
Plans to return Big Brother in 2025 caught Seven by surprise this week, especially given it still has a “hold back” on the format until mid 2025.

A “hold back” effectively prevents negotiations commencing with another broadcaster, “until the day after the hold back finishes. You can’t start production in the middle. You can’t be casting, you can’t be announcing hosts. You can’t be announcing deals,” an industry source said.

Seven just making doubly sure the fanbase hate them. Just comes across as sour but that said even without that letter I wouldn't be surprised if BB slipped into 2026 anyway.

Mel was saying "they don't have a locaton as yet". Wishful thinking, but surely Dreamworld would jump up and down to get them back, they'd want the publicity.

I'd actually say it's best to avoid Dreamworld and for me one of the only things Seven did right was relocate the house. As much as Ten are playing into nostalgia they also need to think for the future too and a new house alongside new host play into that.

I was surprised that neither EndemolShine Australia nor Banijay has said anything about the reboot. Banijay acknowledged a released trailer for the next UK series when they made half-arsed posts about the 25th anniversary of the show but not return of a major version of the franchise that influenced quite a few of the international versions.

But I guess that explains it: EndemolShine somewhat honoured the holdback, it was only 10 that communicated stuff.

Oops! If that holds, then we presumably won't get any more news about the show until mid-2025.
If only there were a void clause for if or when a network churns out absolute garbage (aka the entire time 7 has held the BB rights) 🙄

By the way, I have moved posts about the future house location into a dedicated thread:

FARK! I take heart from this para:

"There is no suggestion of wrong-intent on anybody’s part, nor any suggestion Seven is trying to prevent 10’s broadcast of Big Brother. At this stage there is also no change to 10’s plans to proceed with the format."
Surely 10's legal would have been aware of this prior to the Upfronts? Maybe they took the IDGAF approach for the much-needed publicity.

This is not just about announcements, but also about rights negotiations. According to TV Tonight nothing can occur until the day after the holdback expires. Surely 10's legal team would have cleared it with EndemolShine, who presumably would have checked their last agreement with Seven? Something seems off here.

Survivor resonates because everyone was introduced to that format from the start.

Big Brother as "Survivor in a house" doesn't work because everyone knows the much better live format...

Exactly. How could it have got to this point unless they were knowingly proceeding in breach of Seven's contractual rights. Bizarre.

Can't believe this is actually happening. My favourite version of big brother, I live in England and used to download the new episode from a irc channel on dial up in 2002. Going to be coming here everyday for news again like when when I was a teenager 🥲

Seriously can Channel 7 just fuck off and deal with their own problems like their sexually abusive executives and show hosts, that actual war criminal they had on payroll, that racist bitch who hosted the last lot of Big Brother and their WA newspaper that is constantly licking the ring of that coal burning billionaire cunt?

Thanks 🤭
