Australian Idol 2024

I think they all stepped up this week. Not a bad bunch, though I'd lose Kermit at this stage.

I actually agreed with Kyle tonight about the audience stuffing up the song choices.
Beach Boys for a young country girl? No!

I didn't enjoy Denvah's performance for the first time. I love God Only Knows but not that version.

It's a pity Denvah was given a song that was just too far outside of what she does. Not sure why they blamed the voting public for it so hard though... for each contestant there were only two songs for the public to pick from, and those two songs seemed to be chosen by the show.
If it was such an obviously poor song choice, then it shouldn't have been shortlisted for her.

Do they do a 70's night every year still? Cause how cool would it be if Trent did Rhinestone Cowboy? Or is that just way too obvious a song choice? lol

I don’t mind each week having a theme but I think they should just be given a theme and let them pick anything that’s related to the theme. Having limited choices like this week and last is too much of a constraint.

The problem is that the other choice was ‘girls just wanna have fun’ and I don’t think uptempo songs are better for her!

Denvah was getting the short end of the stick either way with those two songs... neither was suitable for her.

There should be one week where it is simply their own choice. Just about every singer has that one song that showcases their talent above all other song choices.

Of course, in the earlier years, it was easier to fit more variety into the show. Back then it was a marathon not a sprint. We had 80's night, 70's night, Beatles night, I think there was an Australian night... and remember the "Swinging the Hits" night? (Yeah, they only did that once with good reason, but Anthony Callea managed to pull it off). Still, contestant's own choice is pretty important.

Idol Top 8 - Viewers Choice.

Ivana - Edge of Midnight (not my choice ❌) - Ivana is genuinely a great vocalist, and this is a decent performance. But I actually do understand why she keeps being bottom 2. Unfortunately I don’t think she has anything that makes her stand out. Maybe she can have a good career being a BV. I’m not sure pop star is her destiny. ⭐⭐️ the judges heap so much praise on her every week. Something just isn’t connecting with the voting public. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s bottom two again.

Dylan - End of the Road (my choice ✅) - At first I barely even recognised the song and was concerned that he had changed to too much so that it was completely unrecognisable, then it hit the chorus and I realised he has kept the melody and I instantly loved this performance. He’s an artist in his own right and I will vote for him! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Drea- No Tears Left to Cry (my choice ✅) - I thought this would be a great song to showcase her range and vocal ability but something about the performance is just falling flat for me sadly. There were some good moments, but overall just ok. ⭐⭐

Denvah - God Only Knows (my choice ✅) - Denvah is a one trick pony as I’ve already stated imo. There really wasn’t a perfect choice for her from the two presented. Neither would be right in her wheelhouse. This is a pretty song. It doesn’t really have a big moment but it was fine. The emotion was cute. ⭐⭐⭐

Isaac - Wonder (my choice ✅) I actually don’t mind this song with him. He is another contestant who gets heaps of praise from the judges and that makes sense from his back story, but I’m just not convinced his vocal is good enough to be the winner. Solid performance though! ⭐⭐⭐

Trent - She Looked So Perfect (my choice ✅ ) - this song actually worked quite good with his phrasing. I’m still of the opinion that he has progressed further than he maybe should have in this competition. He had fun with this performance. A couple of timing issues. But it’s about as good as I would expect from him. ⭐⭐

Kiani - A Thousand Miles (my choice ✅) - firstly, used to hearing this as a piano ballad, but the guitar at the start was very nice! A good song to showcase her voice. When she’s breathy with a little bit of vibrato, it’s really beautiful. I really like her voice ⭐⭐⭐

Amy - What Was I Made For (not my choice ❌) - not my choice but probably a very good choice for her, I picked Always as I LOVE Bon Jovi and when they do Always it’s always moment! Anyway, probably good to do something more current. Amy has an incredible voice, and she doesn’t even need to have those huge belting notes to be impressive. She could very well go on to have a very good career in musical theatre if she can act. This song was so dramatic. I’d go to her concert. I said last week that she’s not super memorable, and I’m not she that she has the “IT factor” but I am really coming to like her more and more. Do She remains in my top 2 with Dylan ⭐⭐⭐⭐

My score. 6/8. I think better than last year haha.

Judges save: Ivana!

I will be voting for Amy and Dylan.

Yes, disappointed with the result but having said that it's not over 'til it's over.

Just got home. So bottom 4 is Denvah, Dylan, Kiani and Drea? How the heck does Trent keep surviving.

I probably would have chosen Trent, Isaac, Drea and maybe Denvah or Kiani to be bottom 4.

Your bottom four would have been my bottom four too...and that doesn't mean I don't like them...I just think others are/were more consistent and had better performances.

There are parts of Australia where everyone is quite a bit like Trent, and I think they're voting for him like crazy because they don't often see themselves represented in shows like this. That's the kind of place I'm from, and I still have him in my top four.

My bottom four would have been Ivana, Kiani, Drea and Denvah... and just like Sephrenia says it's not because I don't like them either.

I live in the Vic High Country...Man From Snowy River stuff where there are cowboys everywhere. I just don't think Trent has the best vocal and presence but good luck to him if he can go further.
