THE VIRUS 2020 - the good, the bad, and the ugly

its about keeping people safe, not about conspiracy theories or power trips ...

So, you're in favour of more lockdowns after the eighty percent vaccination target has been reached? And I disagree, I think it is about power trips for these premiers. Especially that WA premier.

I always feel like I am in the twilight zone when I enter this thread. Then I remember that this forum is filled with lefties who live in a fantasy world. It all makes sense.

I do think there will be a time when we have to live with the reality that Covid is in Australia without locking down each time there is a case. I am not sure if that will be when we hit 80% or when NSW is under control or what but there will be some time. But I suspect things will never go back to the way it used to be. For example I think things like mask wearking will become a much more common thing to do even if not mandated, especially on public transport and at airports etc.

Hmmm just look at these morons here in Melbourne today. Have they not been reading or watching the news around the world of all the deaths from this horrible virus? Have they taken a trip to the local hospital and seen people suffering and trying to breath on a ventilater in an ICU ward from this virus? Sadly many of these imbeciles at these rallies will probably end up contracting COVID-19. They will also infect their loved ones at home because of their selfish stupidity and also spread this virus even more rapidly around Melbourne when these brainwashed idiots go back home again. The lockdowns will just be longer and tougher thanks to these tools.

That sign makes me laugh. It's not about a virus? LOL! Then you see some in that crowd wearing face masks to protect themselves from what then? LOL!

It's quite sad watching scenes like this, seriously. :(

The lockdowns will become harsher and longer to ensure compliance from the brainwashed fools, especially after the eighty percent vaccinated target has become a distant memory. Because I'm sure there will be more gaslighting and manipulation from the politicians and the media as they guide us to their 1984 society.

Not happening.

McGowan in WA already made it clear that lockdowns will keep on happening even after 80% vaccinated anytime a case comes up. From what I heard, State Premiers are more concerned about eliminating the virus and COVID 0.

Mask wearing should not be stopped. Every time that restriction is stopped in Victoria, it only takes weeks or months until we are in lockdown again.

I think you're deluded. If it was about power trips as you falsely claim, then these 'Premiers' would have introduced some form of lockdown controls way before covid, did they? nope.

I'm glad they're doing it and hope they continue, I, like many other people in our society just want to a safe environment for myself and my family to live it. :)

But for how long do you think they should continue? Do you believe that Covid zero is possible?

We can't eliminate the virus.
No we can't. At least not yet. Maybe we will get a super-duper vaccine in the future that can eliminate it. For now we have to rely on the vaccines we do have, and get the vaccination rate high enough to be able to reopen everything and just accept that some people will be at risk. Vaccinations will have to reach 80% of the total population. So that means kids as well - probably everyone over 5 or 6yo. Just have to hope that the unvaccinated who then inevitably get the virus don't get very sick, will recover with immunity. We'll have to accept that everyone will come into contact with it, but it won't be so bad because people won't get (very) sick. Living where I do, going to crowded markets and eating street food etc, I'd be surprised if I haven't already had it asymptomatically.

Global travel won't return to normal until all countries get to that stage, which is going to take years. But I think it'll roll out bubble-style to countries that have the same high vax rates.

Anyway that's my take. Thanks for attending my ted talk.

I'm not a fortune teller, I can't foresee the future. There are so many possibilities that may occur such as new variants, stronger ones, more infectious - there might be a need for different responses to thwart spreads. Who knows?? So no one, including me or you can't answer a question like that ...

I'm not asking for a prediction though.

So would you be fine if we are still in lockdown five years from now?

People are genuinely overly scared of this virus thanks to the fear mongering of media organisations and politicians. Sure there are plenty of deaths but most of Victoria’s came from the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions.

In what way?

Security guard at hotel contracted by the Victorian Government doesn’t follow protocol allowing for the virus to spread. You know the story…

Over half of Australia’s COVID deaths came from that one incident last year.
