Americans have done nothing but slam Australia for the past 6 months about our handling of the pandemic, lock downs, etc. Whether its their newspapers, their talk shows, their news reports, twitter / social media commentary, etc. It's a very common theme.

I am not sure if lecturing is the word I would use I just think that the USA really don't need to point out the faults in another countries response to covid when thiers is multiple factors worse in comparison in any measure I can think of.

When i was out driving today I saw a sign saying there was going to be a protest in Brisbane tomorrow. I wonder if the same will happen in Melbourne and Sydney? Probably, but I suspect it will be a very short and small protest. Though I suspect there will be more people joining the protests later in the year if vaccination rates reach 80 percent but lockdowns continue. Excusing, of course, the lockdown fetishists.

We have now surpassed the daily new case figures that VIC experienced last year. If NSW daily numbers begin a decline now it could be 2 months before it's under control.
And I think there will be lockdowns after 80%. The trouble seems to be the 20% who DON'T want to get vaccinated or obey restrictions will end up choking our health system when a large proportion of them require ICU and/or ventilators. See what's happening in some USA states and in Israel.
So, yes, lockdowns after 80% vaccinated to protect our health system(s).
Of course, there are no absolutes - there are still cases of severe symptoms in those with two vaccine doses, but I'm sure they will be in the minority compared to the anti-vax/freedom/conspiracy/religious nutters who will get infected.

Nah, fuck that. No lock downs after 80 percent. I mean sure if you want to lock down yourself for the rest of your life for a virus that is staying with us forever, that's fine by me. But I hope our government leaders will be more sensible and stick to the eighty percent.
