THE VIRUS 2020 - the good, the bad, and the ugly

I think there needs to be a serious rethink on what Australia needs to be able to produce for itself. We can't even make tissue masks ourselves. We can't rely on other countries to supply us these things in desperate circumstances.

Agreed.

We are far too reliant on China. Things need to change.

Do you have a winter scarf to wear around your nose and mouth until masks become available, anything as long as your nose and mouth are covered.
Good luck with it. It's awful.

I might have to stay indoors until my masks arrive. Will be a while but not going to wear a scarf outside, lol.

Take a walk with a scarf.......to any supermarket or chemist, even $2shops, have a lot of stock
for virus fighting stuff ......yesterday everyone except butchers seemed to be flogging masks and sanitiser
Cheap too,

Other than common sense I don't think there's anything commendable about deciding to enforce mask use at this point. The pandemic has been going on for months.

Have you distanced, masked, sanitised , and ensured you are not part of the problem since March
Common sense.....is not actually “common” is it
Common stupid is obviously rampant

NSW Premier needs to be proactive rather than reactive otherwise her state is going back into lockdown.

If this article is correct then I think I could probably argue that "common stupid" is less rampant in Victoria compared to other states.
Despite this VIC seems to be in the worst situation in Australia. Do you think there might be factors to that aside from just irresponsible public behaviour? What is different in VIC?

Irresponsible behaviour has occurred in every state. So management of this pandemic from Dan Andrews and Victorian officials should definitely also be discussed in my opinion.

Questioning whether I have done certain precautions is not relevant to what I was discussing anyway, I am not from VIC either.

I received a pack of 50 masks today... from WUHAN, CHINA. I am afraid to put them on because of potential virus?

Several countries sent back masks from China as they said the quality wasn't good enough. Any mask is better than no mask though.

My concern is that they have come from Wuhan. Coronavirus capital. Is there a chance the virus are on the masks?

I think I would be more worred about ones hanging up in shops next to mirros so people can try them on before you buy them.

If I got offered job over whats app I would think it was dodgy as fruck. If this is true why would you even show up?? Its like getting one of those spam emails offering you a job.

I am surprised that they are allowing that. My masks were in a pack of 50 with no signs of being open thankfully.

it looks like it is in America. nothing surprises me over there with what is happening. Trying to stay safe is almost impossible over there.

I find it very strange that covid becomes such a political thing yet left and right leaders around the world have done radically different things irrelevant of which side they lean, and nobody has been 100% perfect.

It's Americal, everything is so broken over there and this virus coming just after the impeachment farce, after the never ending list of ways the media and Dem's there have tried to undo the 2016 election meant there was no way COVID wasn't going to be political. The the moron president is too incompetent to not fall into the media circus game. So that just immediately became political, travel ban racist, go to china town, not enough done, shut down, you can't protest, unless it's the right protesting. There's been so much BS over there and gaslighting over what has been going on. It infects discussions elsewhere.

Then idiots here, act as if the political lines in America just transfer over here and then live in a fantasy land. I've literally seen right wing people arguing the BLM protests were supported by Labor here and lead to the outbreaks. Even though that's not the case, they just transfer what they read in bubbles about America as if it applies.

No one had the information to make the right decision about COVID, the worst thing people can do is just politicise is. Draw down on tribal lines, because it obscures the real picture.

The people in quarantine might be carrying the contagion. Isn't the purpose of hotel quarantine to prevent overseas acquired infections from spreading to the community? In my opinion security guards aren't the type of people who should do this job. The situation should be treated as a biohazard managed by people with specialist expertise

It's not that level of infectious. People can self isolate in a house with other people and those other people can avoid it.
The bare minimum wasn't done by these guards, seemingly on purpose by choices they made. If they did their job, such as not screw the infected, we'd be fine.

The answer to what happened in Victoria isn't politically correct. So you're not going to get clear answers, they will dance around it by saying not enough information was conveyed in Arabic, or that rumours will spark islamophobia.

Basically a small number of security guards, assumably, low skill/ education didn't do their job at hotel quarantine. Got infected. This corresponded with large scale religious/family gatherings. They went to large Eid gatherings in June, that didn't abide by the social distancing rules. This then caused an outbreak to spread and grow with in this community and it has broken out of it. Although it seems to a less extent than they are saying.

These gatherings like many other non religious ones were occurring across Australia, people from all walks of life ignored the rules. I know of restaurants in the rich white suburbs of Melbourne who never closed during the lockdown, just had backroom opens. So it's not that communities fault.

It's just the combination of who was doing shit work like quarantine guards, doing it poorly with bad timing and people ignoring the social distancing rules for celebrations.

It just shows how easily this can spread, it could have happened in other groups but those on the front line are more at risk.
