What would reepbot say?

I remember my mum saying to me one time 'reepbot, if you ever get a girlfriend you must never lie to her.' After this year though i am kind of questioning that advice.

My sister and I disagree over my father's semantic use of deliberate and calculated omission to avoid lying. I think deliberate deception is lying, my sister says word games are fair play. You can rephrase anything into being technically truthful. Politicians use 'I would say' in advance of a possible lie to remove the burden of truth from their statement. My father just answers a different question positively.

I think omission can be ok if the question is narrow. However open-ended questions require a bit more truth.

I think the constructive advice is to recognise dangerous decisions early and steer things toward vapid weather conversation, but that might require self-discipline because gossip is interesting.

The problem is that i really don't care for small talk. And yes gossip is interesting.

I'll also put it out there that that situation could have been handled in a bazillion different ways and quite large personality differences account for the way it eventually played out.
