International model David did not hit it off with Sam.

HE DIDN’T get off to the best start on The Bachelorette when he told Sam he “didn’t ask to be a model”, but he certainly upped the ante by storming out of the cocktail party and telling her where she could stick her rose.

Thirty-one-year-old model David was the latest dude to be kicked off The Bachelorette on Thursday night, after a heated exchange with Sam in which he told her he was “actually reasonably happy not to receive a rose”. Ouch.

The ousting followed a tense conversation earlier in the night in which he suggested she was looking for a rich “baby daddy” and was attracted to Michael because of his professional football career.

A clearly unimpressed Sam fired back, telling him: “I am the last person on this Earth who would date someone for their status. That is the most offensive thing anyone can say about me.”

While news.com.au was told David himself wasn’t available for interviews (he’s probably busy being an international model, internationally somewhere), serial nice guy and ex pro-footballer Michael made himself available to set the record straight for him.

Michael told news.com.au David was simply misunderstood and was actually a nice guy at heart, even though he didn’t quite handle himself with the utmost amount of class.

So why did he decide that storming out and telling Sam he was glad to leave was the best way to exit?

“I think he panicked a bit,” Michael said. “I don’t feel like he would get rejected a lot so it was new to him and he didn’t know how to handle it. He went into meltdown mode and he lost a bit of pride. He knew that he wasn’t going to get a rose and he said it. I don’t condone that behaviour but I can understand why he did it and I can see where he was coming from.”

Michael said he and David actually hit it off in the house and he was the first guy he struck up a friendship with.

“If I could have been his wing man, I would have given him other advice and said, ‘Mate, don’t dig yourself into a hole, leave the honourable way, thank Sam and say, “It’s a shame it didn’t work out”’. I definitely would have advised him to leave on different terms,” Michael said.

Michael said he could understand why viewers at home would think David was a bit narcissistic, but added that the audience only got to see one side of him.

“I think he was certainly has those traits, they’re not arrogant traits, they’re his quirkiness. He’s a nice, genuine guy as well, he’s got lots of great things going for him, hence why we were quite close when we met,” Michael said.

709052-8ad2f68a-62a5-11e5-a366-6ffd7a84795b.jpg

David offends Sam on the second night.

“In his industry he’s told all the time that he’s good looking and if you keep hearing it you start to believe it. I just think in that environment he didn’t handle himself the best way he could have.”

It all sounds pretty decent coming from a man who had his grass cut by him when he swooped in and interrupted his one-on-one conversation with Sam. So how did he feel about David breaking the “bro code”?

“To be honest, I think if he was to cut in on anyone, I would be the best person for him to do it to. I feel like I was quite accommodating and downplayed the situation. I actually have a lot of time for David and it was a surprise to me. I wasn’t angry but I was caught off guard,” Michael said.

Michael wants women to know that David’s not the “jackass” he was made out to be and wasn’t planted by producers simply to stir the pot.

“David is someone I think who is looking for acceptance and is motivated guy,” Michael said. “I think he’s a genuine guy when you cut through all the glitz and the glam and he wants what all the guys want, someone to love him for him.

“He was there of his own accord, what you saw was real reactions and real pressure. He wasn’t planted at all. I can say with 1000 per cent certainty that he was not put in there for ratings.”

David said he wasn’t surprised to be sent home.

“I don’t feel like I’m at fault in any way,” he said. “I think I’ll just stay single for a while. Hopefully there’s someone out there that will want me.”

It’s a bit surreal watching a bunch of dudes in my house.

I wanted to tell them, “Can you make sure you do the dishes before you go? I know you’ve got to go on a date or whatever and you’ve got to get ready and make sure your pants match your shirt but can you put the towels through the wash before you leave? That’d be really great.”

I didn’t predict that Sam would pick Plumber Dave for the first date but I did have a feeling she’d pick someone a little more obscure. Throw a bit of a curve ball, keep everyone guessing.

Because if she picked Sasha then we’d all know that she’d picked Sasha — I don’t know if she HAS picked Sasha, I’ve just decided that she will. Obviously my intuition means nothing because I got dumped but I’m telling you, she picks Sasha.

Also, I’m getting a little nervous for Richie. He’s one of my favourites and I was hoping she’d give him the first date and get him off the bench — I’m using sports analogies here because the boys all constantly use them. If Richie doesn’t get off the bench before half time I think he’s going to find himself with a red card and get booted out.

story-fnpug1jf-1227542670127

But Plumber Dave and Sam had a fantastic date. Nice helicopter ride, straight to the SCG for some cricket, she didn’t have to bowl or pitch which I am totally for (because I am not a sports person) and so she could just sit on the sidelines and look hot in her black pants.

Sam Frost’s no fool — when at the cricket she knows it’s more fun from the sidelines. (Pic: Channel 10)

I’d tell Frosty to watch her language though because it could come back to bite her on the arse. Saying things like, “Blow him away on the first date” right before you go into a locker room and watch him get changed? (Although I am okay with that because any moment we have to watch the guys get changed is a beautiful thing.)

I want to talk about the group date now. When the girls went on a group date on The Bachelor, we felt the need to step up to the plate. We had to follow through because we felt like if we didn’t people would say we’re too girly, or we’re too scared or a princess.

The boys, on the other hand? They all stood back on that group date where they had to jump off a cliff and said, “Prove our love? Fat chance! If I want to jump, I’ll jump and if I don’t want to jump, I won’t jump.”

I was quite impressed that they all found their own way to do it though. In the end they realised, “Well she’s kind of hot, she’s kind of worth it.”

So they all stripped down — again, I love that she found another way to get the boys naked, thank you Sam Fro-Fro — and they all went for it.

Well, all of them except for Drew. But you know what? Harry Potter shouldn’t have to jump into a river to prove his love for her.

Drew and his bird. And we don’t mean Sam. (Pic: Channel 10)

And it got him some one-on-one time. Very well played, Drew. And she even took him to the set of Hogwarts for it which showed she cared, she wanted him to feel at home.

I’m going to call it, but I think Harry Potter has a good chance of getting into top four. I think she may end up meeting the family and seeing, “This is my room under the stairs”. Insert your own Harry Potter jokes here.

Now onto the cocktail party and the rose ceremony. You know how Beyoncé has her alter ego Sasha Fierce? Sam has Fro-Fro Fierce. That moment she gave it to Blue Steel David after he had a go about why he thought she liked Michael was just amazing.

I totally get why she had a go at him. I would have probably given him both barrels and a little bit more.

Fro-Fro Fierce really did all the talking for us. She fronted up and said all of the things us girls watching at home wanted her to say. She was not afraid to say, “I don’t give a flying eff what you think.”

Hats off to her, I say.

He should have turned around then and there and said, “You know what, I really effed that up. I’m going to go. Sorry about that. Good luck with everything.”

I hope all the episodes get as intense as this one because that was just the best thing I’ve ever seen.

Osher is so much harder on the boys. He was kind of gentle with us girls.

With the guys he’s like, “You didn’t receive a rose — get out”. He’s so hardcore. “Don’t mess with my girl Sam, get out.” I’m going to start calling him Uncle Osher.

There is just one other thing I want to add before I sign off.

I want to sit Will down and explain to him about the zones.

I feel like I’ve got a little bit more understanding about how the zones work since having been on The Bachelor. And Will is not in the love zone, he is 100 per cent friend-zoned.

I want to start a hashtag for him which is #findWillahome. I feel like we can find him somewhere he belongs because he’s a beautiful man.

I'll say it again... Giving guys a Rose is really dumb. They really needed to think that through a bit more.

And bozo David? He's a freaking male model! He probably thought the show was about him...! Of course he couldn't handle playing second fiddle to the girl.

HE wanted to cut in - but knew it broke the bro code - so he wanted others to do it so they'd be the ones breaking it ...

he wasn't thinking about anyone else but himself

whilst I hate the constant referral to the bro code ... its just common decency to allow Sam time with whoever she chooses for however long she needs with them ... he needed to realise he was NOT the one in control here - Sam is. She decides.

Bye Bye Devoid :)

O-kay? In every episode of the Bachelor or the Bachelorette I have ever seen, people cut in politely at the cocktail parties. It is normal behaviour within the show.

Having the best morning at work. Here I thought I was the only Bachelor/Bachelorette watcher but the topic was brought up by someone else (a guy) and three of us just spent 30 mintues recapping everything lol. So fun. It was like this forum only with facial expressions and real lol's. (you can tell my boss is away today).

James Weir recaps The Bachelorette episode 2

ONE night into this fine competition we call The Bachelorette and excitement is still at a high.

After waking up early and padding down to the kitchen to await the challenges of the first day, the boys are wide-eyed and bushy-pubed.

By the looks of it, the mansion in this series comes with a fun accessories closet.

Osher arrives with an envelope and a single date is up for grabs. Smiley Dave gets it — and the boys react with an uproar of cheers and butt spanking (it’s kinda hot).

Like most first dates, Dave meets Sam at an airport hangar on the outskirts of town before taking a helicopter to the Sydney Cricket Ground — because cars are for losers.

Sam introduces Dave to “Doug Bollinger” from the “Sydney Sixers” who’s going to “bowl him an over”.

Now, I have no idea what any of that means. I had to ask three people in the office if that sentence even makes sense. I’m told it does and apparently some boys think this date is pretty cool.

Dave is made sit in the change room by himself for a while before Sam enters to dress him and make sure his box is in place (not even an exaggeration).

To be honest, this date is about as interesting as, well, a cricket game.

We basically sit with Sam on the sidelines while Dave tries to hit a ball.

“Doug Bollinger” then takes the liberty of offering up Sam’s mouth as a prize if Dave can hit the ball.

He’s successful, so Sam’s kind of now obligated to follow through on the promise that was made for her.

After all this sport nonsense, we’re finally treated to some familiarity with an al fresco picnic on a Fantastic Furniture couch.

Ooh, is this real pleather?Source:Channel 10

Dave starts talking about his “11th box” like it’s a thing everyone knows about.

“Everyone’s got 10 boxes that they want of someone,” he says while we all think about how our own relationship histories would have been different if only we knew about the box rule.

“But then there’s the 11th box. And you can’t explain the 11th box. You just know it’s there. So you’re starting to tick that as well,” he explains.

Sam’s so confused by all this box chat that she just gives him a rose. Smiley Dave puts it in his 11th box for safe keeping.

Back at the mansion — which, one day in, kind of resembles the Big Brother house — Kieren finds a group date card. The hint is “leap of faith”.

Speculating, what it could be, Drew bravely reveals one of his biggest fears is jumping into water. Probably because it’s a total drag having to wash, comb, dry and straighten his Jared Leto wig.

Despite missing out on the group date, Davey hopes he makes it into the rose ceremony by “some skin of luck”. (Not even going to venture that one).

The boys are driven to a murky river and told they have to jump off a cliff, because how else will we know who has a bigger doodle?

The prize at stake is a one-on-one date with Sam.

Of course, Drew is freaking out about the water/hair situation but thankfully his on-the-go look involves a topknot so the damage is expected to be minimal.

David’s also freaking out. “I’ve never even worn a wetsuit in my life … I can’t breathe,” he confides, concerned about the impending chafe.

One by one, 12 men line up and throw themselves off the cliff.

The only thing more romantic than this is when David tells Sam pre-jump: “I’m just going to imagine you’re in there drowning.”

This comment confuses Sam. And then it scares her. She considers voluntarily flinging herself off the cliff just to get away from him. But then he jumps so she doesn’t have to.

Drew can’t handle the pressure and breaks down. He says he’s not afraid of heights and he’s not afraid of swimming — he just can’t put the two together. I like tomatoes on pizza but hate tomatoes in salad so I guess it’s kinda the same thing.

He cries. She cries. He attempts to jump but doesn’t. They cry again. They agree he won’t jump.

Even though he didn’t follow through with the challenge, he scores the date.

They spend a romantic evening sitting in front of a dilapidated building trading hair care tips by the fire.

While most of the other boys were at the group date, Davey sat around the mansion trying to figure out why Sam doesn’t like him. Then at the cocktail party, he takes her to the backyard for a chat to redeem himself.

It went like this: “Why don’t you like meeeeeeee?”

Sam laughs at him and then moves onto a chat with Michael the soccer player.

Model David’s perturbed. Maybe he doesn’t like Michael. Maybe he’s just frustrated that no one has asked for the link to his ModelMayhem.com profile.

Either way, he tries convincing Kayne to interrupt Michael’s one-on-one time.

“He’s a football player with tattoos and he’s f**king rich and he’s successful, mate, he doesn’t need the f**king time. He doesn’t need the f**king time.”

When you can’t bully someone into doing the dirty work, sometimes you just have to do it yourself.

He interrupts the chat. It’s uncomfortable. He looks like a wang. Michael’s lovely and after a while, David gets some alone time with Sam where he continues to offend her.

He basically says she’s only interested in Michael because he’s a professional soccer player.

And she goes off.

“I think it is a load of rubbish that anyone would have this ‘theory’ that I care about materialistic bullshit which I don’t. At all,” she blasts.

“That is the most offensive thing anyone can say about me. And if that’s the kind of person you think I am, then you can leave.”

David seems to enjoy the scolding in an almost sexual way.

Meanwhile, Michael and the guys sit around talking about the ins-and-outs of bro code and whether David broke it because this is year seven with alcohol and bad suits.

Based on what went down, you would have to be blind, deaf and buried underground to not forecast how the rose ceremony pans out.

It comes down to Kayne and David. Kayne gets the rose stub.

This is where some great facial expressions come in.

David approaches Sam to say goodbye and Sam finally gets to re-use this icy expression from when all that Blake business went down.

That’s when David takes the opportunity to graciously share some general thoughts and observations.

“I’m actually reasonably happy not to receive a rose tonight,” he says. This is the adult way of saying, “I didn’t even want to play this game anyway!”.

The boys are totally chill about it.

“I think you misinterpreted the whole situation. I think you judged a little bit too quickly. I think you actually made a mountain out of a molehill,” he informs her.

Sam swiftly wraps him up and sends him on his way.

Davey, then calls out “jackass” in a weird half-American accent and we all reconsider who should have went home tonight.

To play Devil's advocate, Sam does have a football player dating history. Ben Stratton and Dane Rampe and likely many more, and attends events dressed in hello boys WAG-in-training attire.

Michael explains why international model David stormed out of rose ceremony on The Bachelorette

That was nice to read. Michael may be a hot soccer player and all that, but he's a lot brighter than most of the other fellows and I respect his opinion on David - who, sob - I will miss greatly. He was interesting.

All the more interesting individuals will be picked off one by one, called 'sweet souls' and the like, and soon there will only be meatheads in suits. (Who am I to judge another woman's taste in men, though!) At least Michael is a perceptive fellow, so that will be one I can watch with interest at least.

Maybe it's because I don't follow soccer all that closely but is being a professional soccer player in Australia really the big deal they're making it out to be? I was always under the impression that as a soccer player you need to leave the country to make it big.

I think the bigger point is that Michael is an attractive soccer player with game and that's what intimidated David the most.

Well Sam has form dating sports guys, but I wouldn't consider him a soccer player really....he's a back up and not at all high profile.
But it was obviously his 'thing' on the show and they probably told him to run with it.

LOL@exaggerating his achievements though, how embarrassing!

O-kay? In every episode of the Bachelor or the Bachelorette I have ever seen, people cut in politely at the cocktail parties. It is normal behaviour within the show.
Think he hit a nerve with Sam because she almost took it as a slight, that's the difference...I think she might have got shit previously for being a wag and was a bit defensive.
It wasn't so much as Michael himself as David making sweeping judgments.

He was a complete prick at the rose ceremony though but then that last bit made me feel sorry for him LOL.

I don't think David is all bad, in the end I think that he didn't get her and she didn't get him. No biggie. Not everyone is a match.
He showed though that he's used to not having to try very hard to get women, and his actions when he didn't get a rose were a bit petulant. I don't think he deserves ongoing hate from people though.

David's comments were misinterpeted by Sam - even when he was scared of jumping off the cliff in his suffocating wetsuit, she couldn't grasp that he was being gallant by saying he'd gear himself up to do it, despite his fear, by imagining she was in there drowning and he was therefore leaping in to save her. I mean the woman is not bright.

He made some ill-timed and ill-advised comments and thought she'd enjoy his spirit, and daring, the poor fellow. It was all a mess. But it was no more of a mess than the revolting comments made by Davey Girlfriend Boy, who redeemed himself by spouting the right thing.

I also think his observations, though rude and untimely, were spot on. She's the sort who goes to the opening of an envelope, as proven post-Blake, and would love to be at the Brownlow medals or the Logies, or whatever it is the press photograph all the wags in their tacky expensive gowns.

David offends Sam on the second night.

“In his industry he’s told all the time that he’s good looking and if you keep hearing it you start to believe it. I just think in that environment he didn’t handle himself the best way he could have.”

I'm not really a Michael fan, but I think that was nice of him to try and show the other side of David.
