I don't think there's anything wrong with the format (in terms of the chair turns). but it does rely too heavily on the egos of the judges (sorry, coaches), and often they steer their contestants into styles and genres they are uncomfortable with.

I reckon if you scratch the surface it's more than just "relying too heavily..." on, in fact it's all about the judges and their ego. It makes 'good' television which brings in ratings and the network / producers etc get their $$$ regardless of how the contestants perform post-show. Although, I don't think they'd like to admit it, I feel like they have no particular interest or care in creating a new star.

Also, did I see a promo suggesting that the button doesn't work again? Hasn't that happened every season?
 
I remember Delta totally trying to upstage little Rachael in the first season, so not the point of having a "superstar" coach. The judging panel for idol made the most sense to me, well until they got Kyle Sandilands on board anyway. If I was a musician I'd rather have feedback and guidance from a record executive than a has-been singer.

Ok the Madden's, well this is embarrassing for a number of reasons but I had such a crush on Joel when I was 14. Safe to say my crush has died now though.

Hmmm.

I couldn't help but notice that one is not like the others. It seems the more successful the artist the less need they have for their surnames.

Tina uses her full name so that we can all appreciate the power and love that shines from her vocals. I will go into further detail in the Tina Arena Appreciation thread.
 
Do you think someday someone will say that they're going to a Tina concert and everyone will know who the Tina in question is? Hypothetical of course as I don't believe anyone would ever say that, but I have to wonder.

They do so exist. I read about them. Plus I have a dvd of a Tina concert.
 
Didn't really like anyone on tonight's show. They seem to be building teams of fairly average singers, but no one amazing.
 
to spice things up during the battle rounds they should have the combatants sing on top of a shark tank. once the song is sung the two contestants stand on a trap door. the judges then press a button and release both (or loses fewer limbs) will move onto the next round.
 
Hey @reepbot t I found a Tina connection for you. On Team Delta there is a young girl who was previously on the reboot of Young Talent Time which, of course, featured Ms Arena herself due to her own career starting out (and peaking?) on the original series. Only time will tell if this girl's career follows the same trajectory or if she instead goes on to achieve longevity in the industry.
