Big Brother US 2015: #BBTakeover premieres Jun 24th

Looks like this season's BB is using the "Twin Twist" from AU 2005!
Actually, they're re-using the exact same twist from Big Brother (US) 2004. However, the twist backfired massively after the reveal as the HGs rallied against them as they took offense to being deceived for five weeks and the twins were quickly evicted one after the other.

the launch was just so boring, its just kinda like eh... Julie Chen is so boring and the hoh comp was so mediocre

I just did the research, and the twin twist came from Season 5. "The second twist was that a set of twins were switching spots in the house, with the goal of making it to the fifth week. If they succeeded this without getting caught, they would both be eligible to play as individuals. The twins, Adria and Natalie, both played as Adria, and would switch places at various times in the Diary Room. The sisters succeeded in the task, and Natalie entered the game on Day 35."

Hey, I didn't watch the 2004 US season.

Neither did I... But I still knew that was the twist that year...[DOUBLEPOST=1435258605][/DOUBLEPOST]

This is common knowledge

Was the most underwhelming premiere in the shows history - the shows big two twists were reusing last years Battle of the Block twist (I liked it, but as one of the few that did I hardly think it counts as a "fan favourite"), and an 11 year old twist which I also quite liked at the time, but it a repeat twist can't be the core secret twist of your premiere. HoH Comp was very much seen it before too.

I actually didn't mind the premier... I'm also enjoying the fact that Battle of the Block is returning for a second summer in a row... Personally I think it shows some maturity in the format... At this point in BB history they've finally realized what I've been saying for years... That the format needs a new permanent element to help switch up the same stagnant game-play we've been watching year on year... It's also something they aren't going to just call off a few weeks in to the series... It took a series or two for the veto to really start making an impact so I'm interested to see if any new strategy emerges... This isn't the most shocking twist ever but it's understated...

I agree that the twin twist is kind of lackluster and will likely fall apart ASAP... That said I'm interested to see how this will unfold... I was living in Australia during 2004 so I missed all of BB5... I also doubt this will play out like it did the last time... I'd also love to see how Grodner & Co recover if this falls to pieces...

I'm also loving the idea of the #BBTakeover twist... Like I said earlier in the post BB game-play has been pretty stagnant year on year... Once again something like this shows maturity in the format... It should be interesting to see what they throw in each week...

Second part of the #BBTakeover twist

Phill appeared on the screen and told the two HG's that sat out of the HoH comp that while they took a risk sitting out but with risk sometimes comes reward... But they'd have to wait for another day to find out what that means...

Second part was much better than the first, but are those the best two they could have got from The Amazing Race?

Loved this HoH Comp, but felt the whole Takeover thing fell flat. So far it's missing the fun of Celebrity Hijack.

P.S. Do agree with Kingston the return of Battle of the Block isn't a bad thing, just don't like the way it was reintroduced. Also think it needs a few tweaks - would be better IMO if the Veto is played beforehand with the 4 nominees and 2 HoHs, plus 2 random additions. I'd prefer the Veto to be used before the BotB takes place, but guess that removes the possibility of the HoH being nominated.

I really enjoyed the launch. I really love the cast this year. Except I was very disappointed with who the TAR contestants where. I would have preferred anyone else. I liked battle of the block and I liked having two HOH comps per week. I didn't mind Julie Chen. She's not as entertaining as Gretel but she's far better then Sonia. I really am excited for the twin twist. As I was only young when the twin thing was new so to me it's all new. I also like how they aren't telling us so far who the twins are. And such a diverse cast. And Asian-South Carolininon a transgender a gay guy from New Jersey a pro wrestler a pockplauer a beautician a dentist. So many people from different walks of life and I'm so happy and its such an improvement over last years cast. I'm very interested in this BB takeover thing. If it's really jaw dropping twists like the one we just had then I'll be really impressed. So far this series is really looking good to me. I'm enjoying it and I'm so annoyed because I have to wait till Monday till I can actually view the next episode. Like I said I really love this cast. Well all except for the TAR house guests. Hoping the gay early. My fave is so far Jace and my second fave is Audrey. I've got really high hopes for this year and I've got a really good feeling it's gonna be good.

The whole idea of swapping reality show contestants is lame to start off with... It really doesn't matter who they chose the whole idea turns me off completely... That said with everything they've planned so far twist wise the #BBTakeover was never going to be anything MASSIVE in the first week anyways... I don't watch TAR so Jeff and Jackie might as well be random newbies... And I think they are better off being randoms anyways as they won't have a bunch of gobsmacked HG's trying to kiss their ass for the first few weeks...

I'll agree that the Takeover thing is kind of falling flat but the fact that nothing this season so far has been understated is actually part of the reason I'm watching it... BB in general seems to build things up to massive proportions and then once a twist is in place they rarely if ever actually produce massive results... #BBTakeover is something I hope they build upon and grow over the series... Battle of the Block will only be around for so long and the twin twist is merely there as a bit of fluff... The Takeover SHOULD be in play for the majority of the series... I was never expecting it to come out of the gate with a bang... BBUS is not and never has been BBUK so comparing this similar twist to Celebrity Hijack is kind of like comparing apples and oranges...

As for the way the BotB is played... I actually don't mind it... However I would have just replaced the PoV for that part of the series... It would make playing the BotB to win that much more important rather than just a formality... It also makes the HoH power that much more as well... I don't think it really matters if the PoV is played before or after BotB the "backdoor" strategy is still in play for the most part... However I do like that the current setup allows for a legitimate strategy of eliminating strong physical players by allowing the out going HoH to potentially be nominated...

Gretel isn't even in the same league as someone like Julie... She's a true professional who completely understands the role she's there to play... Unlike an attention seeking host like Gretel... I will never understand why Gretel gets so much love here... And BTW my left hand has more talent than Sonia...

lol. Julie is a horrible host and is in the same rank as Sonia. They're both completely reliant on a script/autocue and inject absolutely zero personality into their role.

We had a couple of Aussie visitors last year on a low key streaming site for BBUS... I think they found it on this forum. The TV show is on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 5 pm BB time (US Pacific). Add 17 hours for Sydney time. I don't think I can post the link here. Say 'hi' if you come by :) --

A Major BB Aus fan!

Julie's a great host if what is required is a talentless robotic teleprompter reader with little personality to add to the show and only has the position in the first place as a present from her husband Les Moonves who runs CBS.

And the Battle of the Block is a ridiculous twist which played a large part in ruining last seasons big brother as everyone was trying to throw it anyway and it favored large alliances . How it will play out this year with a far superior and game savvy cast is yet to be determined but it was never as described...a fan favorite. Its sort of Big Brothers version of Survivors Redemption Island which was despised by the core viewership.
