They are and happily so. Lawson is going to Perth for Christmas and hoping to talk to Candace then. Any bets she lets him?[DOUBLEPOST=1418677145][/DOUBLEPOST]What is the "Ill Ride with You" about? as it relates to the hostage crisis?

It's a show of support for Muslim people.

It's to do with accepting Muslim headscarves etc. When Muslims experience a backlash to anything Islamic-related that has occurred, it is the often women who suffer the brunt of the negativity due to wearing of scarves and burkahs. After some terrorist-related arrests a few months ago, some women felt that they either couldn't leave their houses. One woman made headlines when she removed her headcovering to catch public transport as she was scared of being abused. The #illridewithyou (eg on public transport) is to show support for the Muslim community

this needs that lisa eyeroll gif!
In a few words this twit sums up what a douche canoe he is.
I guess it's only air-conditioned prestige vehicle for Ryan? What a dick.

This is a prime example of jumping on a bandwagon you know nothing about. It's what's wrong with social media. It's all about the appearance.

Are you guys for real? His tweet is a show of support for the Muslim community even if he can't literally ride with them because he doesn't use public transport - like a lot of people don't. Give him a break.

I find it very interesting how people come away with completely different opinions, on the same short statement. I like Ryan. However, I don't think the first part of his tweet was necessary. I get how you saw it how you did, but whether or not he likes public transportation was irrelevant and nothing we needed to know. Do I think he meant it to be a douche? No, but just saying "I'll ride with you," was more than enough.

His tweet is only short but it is loaded, read between the lines. Why even mention not using public transport? But yes, everyone is going to see something different. The reality is a good deal of people tweeting hashtags could probably care less, and would choose to turn their back in the real world and not get involved. Hashtags on Twitter aren't going to change the world, only actual actions will. Love you @Gemini, but we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

We all know Ryan comes across as a snob so to me the part about not actually using public transport shouldn't come as a surprise. However even though he doesn't use it he's still using his profile to show support for the Muslim community and regardless of how much of a snob he comes across as, him showing his support for the greater Muslim community should be respected...just as other HMs tweets are.

Or, maybe he wanted to make it clear he doesn't use public transport so he doesn't have a bunch of crazed fans using his tweet to hassle him about where he'll be.

I've seen tonnes of people on Twitter saying they don't actually use public transport but they're tweeting the hashtag anyway as a show of support. They're not receiving any of the cynicism Ryan is. Just IMO.

I'm not a Ryan fan - but see nothing here to take umbrage at. No reading between the lines - just support.

Why mention he doesn't take public transport? Because #illridewithyou refers to taking public transport with Muslim women. I read it as Ryan saying that he doesn't, but would have no problem riding with members of the Muslim community if he did use it.

I think you are making a value judgement to assume that he doesn't care, and is jumping on a bandwagon that he knows nothing about.

@Gemini I respect your opinion, and If someone else's comment read to me how his did, I'd say the same thing. I just think the point of the hashtag came from a selfless place and somehow it takes on a different tone, when you make it sound like you're doing someone a favor, because you wouldn't normally the thing you're posting about. Again, I don't think it came from a bad place. But, I wouldn't say, "I don't like cafes and coffee, but my thoughts are with the people in Sydney." I just feel, give the support without the extra stuff. But, that is me, as someone who likes him and doesn't think he comes off like a snob. I'm sure others feel how you do.

More importantly than all of this, I hope people keep this going, and mean what they're posting

ETA, See, just as I posted someone agreed with you. It's all open to interpretation, and as I said I find that interesting.

I respect your opinion too and I can see where you (and others) are coming from. I just can't agree with it because all I see Ryan doing is tweeting that even though he may not ride on public transport he would absolutely ride with a Muslim in support if he did. People may not like his wording but it doesn't change his message. That's all that matters to me.

Hashtags quickly turn into bandwagons people jump on. Whether it's to look cool, peer pressure, or a genuine belief in the principle. I'm not going to wear blinkers and not question whether people are entirely genuine. Life simply works like that. I'm not saying that Ryan isn't, but his tweet could have been worded differently in order to get the message across. Pixels on the internet are only of true value if people follow through with the intent. That being said, I'd ride with every single one of you crazy cats here on the forum.
