haha my husband said almost the same thing! He pointed out that whenever Aussies meet me for the first time, even just at in a grocery checkout, as soon as they hear my voice they immediately pepper me with questions and are extremely friendly and genuinely excited to tell me where they've been in N. America, where they'd love to go, family and friends they have living there etc. And my accent definitely leans to being more American these days. Friends will make fun of how I say certain words or even the fact we have different words for things ie sidewalk/footpath but I give it right back and it's always light hearted. Yet because he's a buff, good looking guy it's like they want him beheaded for something he has no control over! The HMs were so welcoming with Layla. It was probably because she was so unthreatening. With Leo, it's like they all want him to be deported LOL.
Oh and there's no benefit to living on the GC for tax purposes. It's just where he chose to live. I'm pretty sure someone mentioned he came here on a visa with his then girlfriend so maybe she lived there? Not sure.
