2014 Ratings Thread

For a normal daily show that might not be bad but I think for an eviction that's pretty terrible actually in terms of total viewers. Considering it was only up against an NCIS repeat and Winners and Losers it should have been done better. I mean after all Nine could just show a Big Bang Theory repeat and it would probably rate better and be considerably cheaper to show.

It did fine in the demos and it was up against the series finale of Winners and Losers.

They will have to do something. The ratings are quite bad.

Last night's eviction had 717,000 viewers. The first eviction last year had 972,000.

A year on year decline of more than 26%.

The positives are that is doing well in the demos and is competitive with other shows in the late night slot.

I'm not sure if that will be enough though. Big Brother is not a cheap show to produce, so it needs to get certain ratings to justify the costs. Big Bang repeats would likely get similar figures in that timeslot, and would be competitive in the demos, but they would be a lot cheaper than BB.

I think the fate of BB will depend on what happens once The Block finishes. I'm guessing BB will move into the 7:30 slot, so it will really need to lift ratings if that happens. That might mean Nine could make some changes if ratings don't pick up.

Is it the time slot or is it that this season is, to me, who only saw last year, utterly horrible to watch? I haven't seen other years, but, this season just has seemed mean and no fun. (Though I read people did like the dance competition.)

I dont think its the time slot. I personally still can't recognise some of the housemates by name and some of them have had hardly any air time either. I recognised Gemma, she succeeded in wanting to be noticed, but her strategy was faulty.

They have given me every reason to think that its dirt cheap to produce. I suppose we get what they pay for. Pay peanuts, get monkeys. Sounds about right. I never thought I would admit to missing the man hating Gretel and her eviction interviews. I used to like the 10 obligatory questions too.

It's a lot cheaper than Ten's version, but big reality format are never really cheap to produce, even when it doesn't show on screen.

Intruders it is then. That's the only ratings stunt they know and probably the only one that works - for a night or two at least. I would bet actually on Intruders going in the week it moves to 7.30pm.

Personally I think the "Santuary" is such a waste - it's a gorgeous part of the house and a luxury to have a secret space of that size available to them. Packing a couple of for a true fake eviction or putting some intruders in there with an associated twist would work really well - but the trouble is BBAU is absolutely useless at keeping secrets from the HMs. They're so pleased with themselves whenever they try and pull anything off they can't help but tell the HMs before the twist has a chance to actually play out - as evident by Tim telling them about the eviction twist at the weekend.

When does it move to 19:30?

AAPNine's reality series Big Brother recorded its worst TV ratings this season on Wednesday.
Big Brother's controversial eviction was followed by its worst five-city audience figure and lowest placing in the TV ratings this season.

The Nine Network reality series was the 17th most watched show on Wednesday with 618,000 viewers, according to OzTAM's overnight ratings.

It was beaten in its timeslot by the Seven Network's Criminal Minds (868,000) and by ABC comedy series Utopia (620,000).

The previous lowest five-city (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth) result was last Wednesday when it was 14th with 634,000 viewers.
