Maybe there's no live feeds this year because they blew the budget on the house astrologist? lol
But at least they're recognising the glory of Skye.
"Thank you God for my brain": How the Self-Professed 'Fake It' Girl is 'Making It'
Just how deep is that 'paddling pool' proving herself to be?
Sunny Skye admits she struggles to get people to take her seriously, both inside and outside the Big Brother House. But while some of her fellow Housemates were initially blinded by her highlights and fuchsia lip-paint, it seems this “paddling pool” might be quite a bit deeper than they first expected.
During this week’s fasting challenge – the result of Priya and Katie’s “Greed or Feed?” Power Play – emotions have been sky-high.
Friends have turned foe; there have been
tears and tantrums aplenty; and some Housemates have become homesick (or at least home-cooked-meal-sick).
Amidst the chaos, though, a surprising voice of reason has emerged.
“Skye’s classic… So light and airy and just so chilled,” Dion told Ryan during a quiet moment poolside. “This whole thing [the week long meal replacement shakes] hasn’t fazed her at all.”
Even Travis, who’s openly admitted to “struggling” with Skye initially, has come full circle.
“Skye is an amazing girl, and I think she’s got a lot more to offer,” he confided in Katie.
And it’s not just the boys who are
singing Skye’s praises. Late arrival Aisha told Big Brother that it was Skye who made her and Pair partner Lawson feel most welcome on their first night in the House.
But no one has appreciated Skye’s selflessness this week more than Head of House Priya, who’s been racked with guilt over hers and Katie’s self-serving decision to pocket $10,000 each in exchange for all the Housemates’ meals for the week.
“I wouldn’t spend any of that on food, I really wouldn’t,” Skye reassured Priya when Big Brother’s extortionate Diner set up shop in the Backyard. “You probably will end up buying something… Just maybe one thing if you’re going to; don’t make a habit of it.”
Skye stressed that she personally didn’t want
anything from the Diner and said she’d rather see the money go towards something substantial. She meant it, too. When Priya and Katie caved to peer pressure and agreed to give all Housemates $300 each for food, sensible Skye stowed hers away for “bills” once she gets out of the House.
Interestingly,
Big Brother's astrologist predicted "She could become the House counselor at times. People will come to her with their wounds and their half-broken hearts, and this very young, very sweet person will show them how they can heal. This one will go to others before they even know they are hurting, and show them how to get through."
As is to be expected in a House of 16 bold personalities, there are of course a few Housemates whose love for Skye remains cloudy.
“I can see she’s not a lot of people’s cup of tea,” David told Sam and Sandra in the Treehouse (aka the “slander verandah”).
“I’m at the point where I can’t even sit and talk to her,” Sandra replied.
But Skye has so far, proven to take on board both positive and negative feedback, although it has upset her.
She broke down in tears over Gemma dubbing her 'as deep as a paddling pool', but managed to shrug off gossip that Sam thought she was 'pretending' to be stupid.
“I’m going to be honest with you, but I don’t want you to be upset at the people who said things,” Gemma confided in Skye. “They said them to me, but not in a mean way,” she continued. “Sam was saying that sometimes he thinks you put on the ‘dummy’ hat…”
Skye was quick to refute that she doesn’t “put” anything on, and Gemma enquired if she “wished she was smarter”.
“I wish I could be more intelligent and shock people,” Skye replied. “Why would I want to be stupid? ... It’s hard, too, when I grow up my whole life and people call me dumb. People that first meet me… People think that all the time.” After Gemma left her alone, self-confessed “super spiritual” Skye decided that the only thing to do was to manifest her intelligence.
“I am intelligent, I am positive, I am smart,” she told the universe. “Thank you God, for my brain. Thank you God, for my brain.”
While her cleverness has been called into question, Skye has never once declared herself a Rhodes Scholar and advocates that “everyone is smart, in different ways”. For someone whose personal motto is “fake it till you make it”, Skye seems to be making it just fine... and as she has so far led
The Radar (Big Brother's social media ranking system) more than any other Housemate, it seems she has the audience talking too.
