In The News

p.s.

This part really did make me laugh out loud!

I don't know what shared link you are talking about in all honesty. I don't click on the links that despartz has posted in here because I made that mistake once in another thread and it was too terrifying for me.

:woot:

And thank you for the discussion. I really do like a bit of healthy debate.

Ahh see when you said

right after the posted links I incorrectly assumed you clicked on the link and I jumped straight to being judgmental. You will find I assume/jump to the wrong conclusion/get judgemental/need to apologise alot...

I disagree, when you imply talking about it is always a good thing. I think when someone talks about a tragic circumstance from the safety of their lounge and becomes mesmerised to the point they are studying the clean cut of the throat, or introducing these tragic images to memes so we can be entertained on facebook that is disrespectful, unhelpful and a very bad thing. When someone uses this imagery to promote hatred towards Islam - that is a bad thing, when someone uses this imagery to shock and awe on the interweb - that is a bad thing. Actions come through being proactive and seeing what you can do to help. Sharing gore, liking a facebook post, or posting the fact seeing the pictures gave you a bad dream does fuck all to help.

Never fear, in a weeks time facebook and the interweb will be filled with a new outrage and the boy/girl holding the severed head will be all but forgotten.

Well the pic with the child and rifles pointing at them could not be avoided as it was already posted and was not through a link in here, the other pics I had seen prior because of fb, there is also a pic of children that look exhausted that are being carried by men and the news originally stated that Isis men were carrying them from the mountains. That infuriated me. I was reacting to the news after despartz posted because it brought it back up. I haven't seen the others though where there is draining of blood and so on. Nor do I wish too. Plus you don't need to apologise, trala. We all react to these issues differently. I couldn't help and feel hate, your post about the world accepting and being understanding but will never happen so long as as your arsehole is pointing to the ground and then ending the post with the deaths were senseless- well it humbled me again. Talking about it is good. I just want to also say, I never meant to add to the Islam hate. I'm sorry if that's how it came across. When I also said that it's not a bad thing to spread awareness through pics I meant because I thought it could initiate a people power to force change, but I see what you mean none the less. And as it appears it did reflect on my feelings moving towards hate, though it was my reflection about the ones terrorising. You made a good point and I will be much more careful in how I view images and who is posting them, because they can be used for a much more different agenda.

Me too. I do find I learn a lot through others perspectives and I like being challenged. It's been fun :)

Read in another thread you are sick today, hope you feel better soon

You didn't in anyway promote hate towards Islam in your post. I have seen before how the horrific imagery of atrocities of civil Middle Eastern wars have been used to promote hatred towards Muslim people as a whole, and that is what I was referring to, not your words.

I don't believe awareness comes when you look at a picture of horror and react to it on facebook or like or share the status and keep scrolling. Awareness comes when you learn why this happened, how it happened and how we can do our part to stop it happening again.

It concerns me that we are breeding a generation of people who think sharing a picture or liking a status helps. It doesn't.

Me too.

There is nothing better than that moment when you realise what you believe and have always believed to be 100% true is in fact not true at all. It is literally the difference between ignorance and growth.

Happens to me on a daily basis.

When I first joined my first BB forum, I didn't even realise there was two ways to spell your!!

Ha!

And don't even get me started on there, they're and their!!!

And thanks for the well wishes, while I am only just sick enough to pull off a sick day, I am still well enough to absolutely enjoy the bonus day!

@TraLa, good point about the images. I can see some have almost detached themselves from these images where seeing them is normal and it's like yeah thats what happens in other countries be grateful we are here type of thing. So no longer do the images affect them but also they have become indifferent about it too.

Well I think you should rest your fairy wings now, if the sun is out enjoy the rays and breathe some fresh air and enjoy a cup of tea all at once. I have washing to do (yuck) but will reward myself and do the same afterwards :)

until next time you challenge my thoughts and ideas... ;)

Michael Leunig's take on the discussion...

Have they bred something other than humans in all of these beyond cruel places?
Surely, it can't be humans?
That is so far from human, I just can't recognise, WTF.....that is just pure evil.

What the hell is happening, feel like I might vomit.....babies, beheading babies, what???What are you?

OK, so the world has gone insane, time for a proper United Nations, with an enormous vigilant army to patrol the earth and kill evil.

I think you are underestimating the cruelty that homo sapiens are capable of. Look at all of the genocides and atrocities in the last hundred years alone. That would indicate its perfectly in line with a part of humanity. The counter to that is that we are also capable of great compassion and love. This is the opposite, revolting extreme evil.

I'm not sure whether to laugh at joe hockey for his ridiculous comments that 'poor people don't drive cars', or worried that he even has a say at all.

It's just more of the fact these people don't see themselves are part of the general population and society. I don't know whether he really thought this or not, but it just fits into the liberal parties standard operating procedure of saying something that supports your position with out a care in the world to whether it is factual, true or makes any sense at all.

At their core they see most people as idiots. Who will just believe what is said to them. This is also why they are so anti-intellectualism, education or honest press. They want the people to think what they want and to only know what they want them to know.

Bingo! Agree completely. The whacked out part is how out of touch they are with reality. If you read some of the comments too, you will see a lot have actually just agreed to joe hockey's statement, so I can't say that liberals are wrong in thinking they can treat people like idiots ;) always people out there that will buy the bullshit.

 hands of the wheel for me

Me too I guess. The flinstones transportation is back in fashion haha

Laugh at all the jokes being made about it for sure I know I am, but I am also very concerned for the country with these people in charge.

You and I both! The only argument given is how badly we are in debt and that he is fixing that problem- I eye roll every time.

Apparently abbots poularity is back up after stating he wants to send aid to the people of Iraq. I'm glad he is sending aid, believe me I am, but I still dislike the man. I expect any leader to send aid to a country where terrorising of civilians is happening. That should be a given.

Take fatso's car - that could pay for a whole poor community's transport costs
Should be forced to take PT

What a laughing stock is Oz politics

To be fair, its a laughing stock everywhere.

Well most of the frosty northern Euro countries appear to be light years ahead of the rest of the world, they have a fairer, kinder, more generous and enlightened view & democracy.

Whereas, Australia is seriously challenging USA fools, dumber than George Bush - international TV shows using your elected leader as dumbest memes, we have stepped into a new stupid.

Some of the stuff I see from Sweden is damn impressive. But by and large we are on par with the rest of the worlds politics. France, Italy and Russia are all jokes as well, to say nothing of Greece. You have to be a massive clown to get far in politics.

Putin is the ultimate meme. But if memes were a thing during John Howard's time in office, it would be the same meme overload. Nothing really has changed.

Switzerland has possibly the most people powered democratic democracy.

They vote every month. Online about everything. The people get a say in everything but taxes.

They feel responsible, and actively are responsible for how their country is governed and progresses.
It's kind of amazing.
