Used to love this show
Well. The last 5 minutes was good but the rest of it was a huge disappointment.
Having so many villains was confusing. No idea who the church people were supposed to be or why they mattered. Didn't really care about the village, and didn't get why it took hundreds of years for all these powerful races to destroy it. Once they got through that barrier it should have taken about 30 seconds.
Also pissed off they skipped that close-up face morphing shot for the regeneration. I spent most of the episode just waiting to see that!
This wasn't even close to being in the same league as Day of the Doctor or Tennant's final episode. Apart from the end, I just felt like there was no emotion in it.

Oh my goodness - I wept, and wept for Matt, and realising I was weeping in the middle of weeping for what Moffat was doing to darling sweet Matt.

And after The Day of the Doctor being so damned fine. This was a sucky mess.
I love Clara and she was great. I love Matt, and he was lovely, even struggling under awful amateur looking old make-up.
I am beginning to hate, really hate Moffat.
The regen sucked. And how does the Doctor not recall number 13 joining forces with them on Day of the Doctor? Huh, he tought he was the end, but he knew he wasn't????
The new regen, ridiculous explanation. I think my theory works better = ie when he went into his own timeline the save the Impossible girl - what made her impossible could have been what gave him 13 new regens.
Fuck off Moffat, and take those boring friggin statues with you, I have never, ever got the appeal of that shit past that one Carrie Mulligan ep.
Capaldi's face popped out weirdly, and looked freaky old, like a pecky old bird - I like him though, good luck getting beyond Moffat's crappness.

I thought Clara and Matt Smith's Doctor were the best thing about the episode, but I would have liked to have seen less of the aged Doctor. The episode worked for me as a Christmas thing, and as the end of an era.
The decision to make Capaldi the way we saw him in the last scene is a bit worrying, reminiscent of Colin Baker's early post regenerative trauma (or maybe the new Doctor is just like that?). It will be interesting to see what we think of him in 3 or 4 years.

Did somebody else secretly write the Day of the Doctor? I don't see Moffat as able to have made that after watching this shit.
Bad Wolf Matt, was not as good as Bad Wolf Rose.

I won't go so far as to say I don't like Moffat, Day of the Doctor was absolutely masterful so I think he's won me over forever thanks to that. But this episode just didn't work for me.

I agree with you all, though I actually liked it. It was funny (nude twister and the truth field) and touching (poor Handles, and Clara living through the demise of her beloved Doctor in just one day), but there were more than a few problems, not the least that they made Matt old for most of the episode (and what was with the baldness?), though maybe it was a setup to introduce Doctors being able to return to the show when they age, which is fine by me. And there really were some plot irregularities, such as if Clara could talk to the Time Lords through the crack, why couldn’t the Doctor speak to them and try to work something out with them? He had over 300 years after all.
And enough of his ‘real name’ – hopefully Clara put that to bed by saying that it was ‘the Doctor’.
Moffat (who is responsible for some of the absolute best storylines, so I still love him) creates these complicated story arcs that need to be resolved by the last episode of the series, which can become complex and rushed. That was one of the reasons that classic DW ended: they hired an uber fan to help them to stick to the letter of DW history, but it ended up becoming cumbersome, restricting and complicated.
But that’s not all bad, I like it when things linked up in the xmas special. For example …
There were other things I liked, from little things like going to church naked and exposed, rather than our churches where people dress up and put on airs and graces; to big things like Amy - her simplicity was so sweet. And obviously, another cycle of regenerations, yay!!!
But my favourite moment of the whole thing was “Love from Gallifrey, boys”. Great, great line.
And enough of his ‘real name’ – hopefully Clara put that to bed by saying that it was ‘the Doctor’.

- the crack in the wall now makes sense (more or less), though I’ll have to reconsider some of the crack’s episodes to be sure (was it behind the Doctor’s door in The God Complex, when he said “Of course, who else”?)
- the return of the song from Rings of Akhaten – which I love

That was interesting. I thought this line summed up the problems perfectly: "As a drama, it's a little slapdash – a combination of a breakneck pace and a repetitive story structure robbing many key moments of their power."
The episode still had lots of great bits but it was a bit of a mixed bag.

What was it about Smith you didn't like?
Well I have no idea who Peter Capaldi is but I am hoping for the best.
Matt Smith just annoyed me... like when you want to smack someone in the face (or worse, glass them). He ruined a show that I had been enjoying since its return/reinvention, and forced me to give it up.

Glassing is probably a bit harsh, he wasn't that bad. Maybe just stick to the smack. Or in the spirit of Doctor Who, get someone else to smack him.
I really liked Matt. He was funny, angry and weary all at once. I love his dancing especially. And the bowtie. And fez. Lots of fun.
Gonna miss him, but I'm sure Capaldi will be amazing. Hopefully you like him and can watch again. It's going to be a long wait though. Nine months apparently.

Oh the glassing thing is a joke.. can't remember everyone on my "glassing list": Andrew G, Tim Bailey (Ten weather guy), Tony Abbott...
I found the christmas special rushed in the places it mattered and too long in the places it didn't. I was surprised when I saw it was only an hour. Felt much long and not in a good way.
Clara is just too cute that I can't get past that.

Matt doesn't deserve a place on that list, give him another try, I urge you. I found his first series difficult, I couldn't keep pace with his manner and speaking so fast.
But I have found him immensely rewarding to watch twice, Matt for me is one of the best to watch repeats of.
I just adore his sensitive face and flappy elegant hands.
I watch a story, follow the story. Then 2nd viewing all I do is focus on Matt, his Doctor is mostly heartbreaking.
To me matt took Tennant's heartbreaking farewell with Wilfred - and flew that tragic hero in Peter Pan ship.
Turning him old was a frigging insult, excuse me. Matt I found did weary old man in young body beautifully.
And, umm, Andrew G/Oshi - just a tiny little thing, maybe it will change how you view him a little.
When steve Irwin died, Andrew was hosting Idol. I noticed him dropping crikey a lot hosting.
He has a music website and email/facebook.
I asked if that was for Steve - and got a really nice email back. He is a nice guy, and does know a lot about music.
Get Abbott
Abbott is the kind to make people angry enough to hit him with something, would love to see him smacked about with a dead fish actually - but anything disgusting thrown would be a start.
