What's for dinner?

Today I places some water and maple syrup in a small saucepan, added fresh blueberries and sliced strawberries and stirred for 5 minutes, added sliced banana dnt stirred another minute and sauce was ready. I had this with yoghurt and muesli... Yumm. I had my sugar hit for the day :)

How do you come up with these recipes?

Today all I've eaten muesli for breakfast and for lunch I had carrot sticks and 2 boiled eggs.

EDIT: and crushed raw garlic on a savoury biscuit

I watch way too much cooking shows and the healthier recipes stick out so much for me, especially where I can use less sugar for desserts. I also have a yoghurt fetish.

Speaking of carrots, I tried that carrot dip... Yum! I enjoy with celery sticks.

Oh this is so great to read! Smoothies are so delicious to me. I'm glad you like it and more that you enjoyed salmon. You are doing so well JG. I'm wanting to know what your mums reaction is though. I'm betting she is rather proud of herself, as she should be ;)

Wow, you are so creative, maybe I should hire you as my personal chef.

I am making very slow baby steps, but it's a start. You are right - my mum is pretty pleased with herself, she was joking that getting me to eat something that is green & leafy is a career highlight, but you know, it probably is. I am actually having salmon again for dinner tonight, this is probably the healthiest week of my adult life (which, admittedly, is not hard).

Hahaha jessy_girl, I just happen to enjoy watching those cooking shows, and try and change the recipe around to suit me. I crave sweet things, but I have to try and avoid sugar, so I was so excited when good chef bad chef came on my screens. I've mentioned I'm a pre diabetic I think.

Salmon again! You deserve to reward yourself on the weekend. That is amazeballs! Your mum can do whatever she wants at this point. Heck, she deserves a party ;) joking aside, your health will be thanking you

Dinner was steak sandwiches. It's a lazy dinner, but it was a bloody hot day!

Sweet_Geek, have you checked out the latest stuff on honey?
Was an article in Daily Mail UK about it last week, replace sugar in recipes with honey, replace all your sugar needs with honey. And have a teaspoon of honey before bed and it supposedly makes you lose heaps of weight and never crave sweet things again - shuts off something in your brain.

My Mum would give us a spoonful of honey before we set off to do exams, goes straight to your brain she figured, since the bees have pre-digested it for you.

Might just try and see if the spoon of honey before bed does anything, lately I keep waking up when I would have had a ciggie in the middle of the night and in the morning and looking for lollies, cakes, ice-cream, anything instead.
And then I just forget about food normal eating times, weird.

Dinner solo tonight, so it's deluxe French toast, yum

Tonight I kinda invented my own recipe.

I posted a spinach recipe Earlier in this thread and I just added a few things to it.

So basically I diced up half an an onion, sliced 3 cloves of garlic and saute them in olive oil and cumin in a pan for a minute, then added diced capsicum (green) left that to cook for another minute, then added some spinach, once it whittled down a bit I put a lid from a pot on top of it left it for another minute then using a spatula flipped the spinach mixture over and replaced the pot lid and left it for another minute. While this was all cooking I had some brown rice cooking, I added some chilli powder to the water. Once the rice was ready I added it to the pan with the spinach and left it for another few minutes then served it up. ( I hope this method made sense) :)

It was really spicy I might use less cumin or chilli power next time , but other than that it was really good.

I haven't seen the article. Is there a link? I know honey is a great substitute. I normally have it with black tea, weetbix, yoghurt, smoothies etc. Didn't know a teaspoon of honey could cut the cravings though. I'm going to have to start doing this I think. I find myself making up so many different concoctions on a daily basis just to not get that sugar rush.

Hahaha all this honey talk and now we are on to French toast. But at this hour, that sounds quite a treat. I'm giving that honey a go now. I'll let you know if it works :)

Btw, for dinner I had rosemary and red wine marinated lamb chops in the oven with roasted veggies. On the side was a rocket and pine nuts salad with balsamic and topped with fresh Parmesan. Dessert- fruit with yoghurt

I don't mind the sound of that except for the brown rice lol. I might try this with noodles.

Looking for link.

Here it is, lot more involved than the spoon of honey, but still worth looking at

OMG DM is such a distracting publication - I can get lost there for hours.

Hey Sweet_Geek you will not believe what I had for breakfast. A smoothie that contained a frozen banana, some frozen berries, coconut water, aloe vera juice, apple cider vinegar, spinach, cucumber, spirulina, chlorophyll, chia seeds, bee pollen and cacao. Possibly more ingredients, but those are the main things I remember. Crazy, right? Obviously I did not prepare this for myself, my sister made it for me. It was actually really tasty, the main flavour was the chocolate with a little bit of sweetness from the coconut water and the bee pollen. I am shocked!

I don't actually know the health benefits of any of those ingredients, but I do know they are healthy.

And can you believe that I am vaguely inclined now to keep it up and eat healthily for the rest of the day? We shall see though...

jessy_girl, I'm currently on a getaway at hunters valley and I'm literally calling out things like woo hoo, yeah! I can't believe it. I think the girls think I'm nuts lol.

That's freaking amazing! Some of the things in that smoothie are great preventatives of diseases. You are doing so well and I hope you keep it up. They say if you start with a good morning you normally stay good for the rest of the day- but this is you we are talking about, so can't apply this to you just yet :p

It's amazing reading this. I wish I could high five you, so here's a virtual one :)

jessy_girl WOOHOO On the smoothie! You put me to shame. I've been terrible the past few days. Mum took me out to dinner last night and I had some fish and rice that was amazing, as well as sushi. So good. But other than that...

The best thing I had today was cornflakes, otherwise I had some pringles, marshmallows and fish & Chips...I need to start eating more, all I had yesterday was diner and a bowl of porridge... :/

Nothing green except Nori in like 5 days too...

Haha, I knew you would appreciate it! I told my sister if she makes it for me everyday I will drink it, but there is also a chance I will get over it. Even if the rest of my day is crap (which is likely) at least I will start it well and get some much needed vitamins and minerals into my body.

Enjoy your Hunter getaway, I am mucho jealous!

Well as you know this is very out of character for me, I like to think I will keep it up but we shall see. I have to say, your list of food is way more appealing to me!

I always think I'll keep it up, but nope. Never happens. I mean, I had marshmallows for breakfast today and cornflakes for lunch :/ planning on an afternoon tea of ice-cream. But I am going home for dinner, so I'll probably be forced to have some salad with my stack and sausages.

You see, that honestly sounds like my dream day of eating. Well minus the incoming salad. I had a minute amount of greenery today with my sushi, but that is it. But that's all I've eaten, and sushi isn't totally horrible from what I can gather. I am craving a steak sandwich so I think I need to make this happen. I haven't had ice cream in almost a week, I might get some tonight. Maybe on Monday I will resume my elaborate smoothie breakfasts again.

...hey all... tonight I was a really naughty naughty naughty boy... tonight I had crispy pork belly... yes I know that all that fat and stuff isn't good for you but sometimes one just has to indulge oneself every now and then doesn't one?... lol!...

...I followed the recipe on this link below and have never tasted pork belly as good as this before... it was so delicious and only takes an hour to cook... the cooks name is Helen and she is Vietnamese and cooks authentic Vietnamese recipes in easy to explain steps... I'm definitely going to try more of her recipes if they are as good as this one...

...here is the YouTube recipe...

...Luke Nguyen is one of my most favourite chefs and Helen will eventually become another if any of her other recipes are as good as this one I can tell you lol!... (the pork crackling turned out perfect!... yum!... lol!)... I can really vouch for this as a definite 'easy-can-do' recipe believe me... **Sticky crunches on another piece of perfectly cooked crackling**... as I said... yum!... cheers.

Haha it was pretty awesome. And I wasn't even forced into salad with my steak and snags, just some beans , peas and carrot. We also had chips! I may or may not have left a fair few of the veggies behind...

I LOVE sushi. I'll even eat cucumber if it's in sushi. When I'm not broke I had it all the time, and at any chance I get mum to take me out to have some. My mates always tease me because I am so picky about everything, but will eat raw fish like it's going out of fashion. I also used to snack on raw nori, so yummmmm.

I'm at home now until after christmas so it will be interesting to see how long I get left to my own devices. Mum can get pretty annoying, but she has more to say about my lack of red meat consumption. But really, in relation to everything else I eat, it's pretty good. I just don't eat enough full stop.
