Jade 2013 Appreciation thread

Gemini, you said this in the showmance thread (and gave me another brainworm in the process!) :

I'm curious, what do you think would have happened if he had just shot her down 100%? Do you think she would have been evicted soon after? I keep trying to work it out. Would Jade have given up? At what point did he need to shoot her down and not take it back? After the first kisses in the first weeks? After sharing a bed 4 weeks in?

What does everyone think would have happened if he HADN'T taken it back. If he had just gone with it from the start, or at least after they shared a bed the first time? Would he have been popular? Would she have been AS popular? If they had continued their relationship but managed to stay friends with everyone and not isolate themselves, would they have made the finals together? Or would Ed just have draggged Jade down with him sooner?

Please discuss...lol.

I really don't know. That post of mine was referring to Ed's popularity in response to a call that he was the victim who couldn't have done anything. I was just disagreeing and saying there was plenty he could have done that probably would won him more fans. Not sure what it would have meant for Jade if things had have been different.

Jade already had a huge fanbase before she was even allowed to pursue Ed at all due to the marriage task. She seemed to pick up the majority of the Drade fanbase as well when Drew ran completely off the rails with Tully...and I think that's saying something because guys as pretty as Drew are usually the ones that get the support. I should add that I wasn't a Jade fan in the first couple of weeks. I had a preconceived idea of what she was going to be like, and I adored Drew at the time and thought she was batshit crazy for not returning his feelings. With time though, as Drew became more and more unlikable and I realised that Jade was actually nothing like the preconceived idea I had of her, my alliances switched and I never looked back. Suddenly my anger with her for not liking Drew was replaced with respect when I started to see what he was really like.

It's impossible to tell if Jade would have gone as far if Ed had have properly shut her down and JadEd stopped early on. I can see it from both sides. On one hand I think she would have been more popular in general because from what I've read around it seems like the Ed stuff is the only thing anyone really had against her. However on the other hand, due to not having that hate she copped due to the Ed stuff, there may not have been as much motivation for her fans to vote hard. She also got a massive groundswell of support in the final week when Ed left, and from what I read, that seemed party from sympathy and party from people liking the person she was without him. She's always had a huge fanbase, but I'm not sure if she would have gotten so close to the win without that late surge.

I'm not shocked she made the top 3, but I am a bit shocked she beat Tahan and got within 2% of winning.

I agree that she was always popular but I'm not surprise at all that she almost won it. That first eviction week she tied with Tim for the 2nd most save. Was always saved with high percentage. She even got that 50%+ when she was up against Boog and Maddie. Some say it was because she was up against the intruders, I don't think so, if people didn't like her why would they vote for her. Boog and Maddie weren't hated like Tully, they were really insignificant to the game they were never going to win it. I don't think there would have been many that voted for Jade just because they wanted either Boog or Maddie out (totally different scenario to what happen to the sisters when Tully got evicted). She actually lost some fans around the time her and Ed got "more serious". Also when Mik and sisters got evicted I think some of their fans moved their supports to Jade. And BB's treatment of her in the house also earned her some fans.

I've always wondered about this type of stuff. The "what if" type of scenarios.
1. What if Ed didn't play hard to get? I think they would have got boring very quickly. Ed made her boring, she is more free-spirited without him. But the 'would they, wouldn't they' get together kept people watching and talking about it and was a better (if not, longer) story line.
2. The same as with Jade and Drew. If these 2 just got together, there would have not been a love-triangle story. It would have got boring pretty quickly. And I think Tim and others would have wanted them both out a lot earlier in the series.
3. I also think a lot of what would have happened if Tully left instead of Xavier in the second eviction week. I think Drew would have still be flirting with Jade. Tully wouldn't have the opportunity to cheat on her (ex) gf.
4. And also what if Ed left instead of Caleb. Just imagine Tully and Ed leaving earlier in the series. Jade and Drew would have been a lot closer at the end of the series. I don't know if it would have been more than friends though. We would have probably also seen more of her friendship with the sisters, Mikkayla and Tim. They focused too much of Ed.

I could go on and on about this. lol
Please do! I find it fascinating, obviously.

I DO think Jade and Ed would have been very boring, but I'm still not convinced he made her boring. I was just watching an early clip of Jade telling Drew that if he had been hanging out with her instead of Tim, she would have kept him from getting in so much trouble. So Jade really is someone who toes the line. Part of that is because, in the end, she'll be the one cleaning up after or paying the consequences of any rule breaking, the others will just shrug it off or get compensated in another way. Just think of how she handed over her hamburger to Tim, and how she was the one cleaning his jacket. It totally sucks to be the responsible one, but I think she's just that way.

It's interesting, when I think about it, that Jade's heart earned her so many fans, but in the house that same heart was a source of gossip, both by the HMs and the OS writers. Any time she was affectionate or friendly to a male HM, she was deemed to be flirting in some way. Her relationship with the Sugar sisters was written off as them just being airheaded blondes. Even her relationships with Mikkayla and Maddy were not seen as independent of "Ed Brainwashing". I hate to think of how she would have been perceived if she and Ed HAD gotten together earlier.

I don't think Tully leaving that second week would have been all that helpful to Jade because Tim would have targeted Jade even more, in order to keep his best buddy all to himself. I've been rewatching episodes and Tim says in the DR that he doesn't want Jade taking Drew away from him, when they started hanging out more. Having seen Tim separate Jade and Drew the final days in the house, just when they were talking again, leaves me no doubt he would have done it in a flash if Tully and Ed hadn't done it for him.

There is something about people who post negative comments on people's photos that incite thoughts of violence in my head.. I'd like to smash their fingers repeatedly so they can't type anymore lol

Yeah, I don't get it. Same way I feel about posting negative stuff in support threads. Really, the opposite of love is indifference, not hate. Just let it go....

I wonder if she should thank Ed for being emotionally illiterate. I know she had a huge fanbase, but I wonder if they would have split the fanbase (cute guy syndrome) if he had managed to not be an ass.

I can't even imagine how their being together earlier would have shifted the house dynamics. Or even just Ed not talking shit about her while cuddling with her, giving her enemies plenty of fodder for their stalker characterization. Gossip about them became such a part of the house storyline that I can't imagine it without it. Strange.

Thanks for playing along, even though this wasn't what your original post was about!

The way BB portray them was boring. It also makes me wonder if Ed was really as boring as BB portray him to be because earlier on a lot of the other HMs called him Mr Perfect saying he is good looking but also was apparently quite funny. I can't remember who said it now though.

Tully leaving early would have mean Jade and Drew remained close. Drew really pulled away from her once Tully got her claws on him. The way he was so mean to her towards the end makes me sad. I'm not sure if he would have got like that if it wasn't for Tully, I'm not saying that it is all Tully's fault but he sure changed a lot and just got worst after she left. But then again the real DRew could be the one that we saw towards the end of the series.

If there was ever a hope for Drew and Jade it seems they never had a chance with Tim in the game, on the outside though he'll probably be the one that brings them together. You know, when Jade feels she wants to free up a bit and decides to be a little less serious and when Drew feels he's had enough drama in his life. One can only dream. *sigh*

By the way, when you pointed out the hamburger and jacket incidents it really did endear Jade to me even more. Now more than ever do I want her to step out and become a fearless independent woman. She will in time, I'm sure.

Drew should have changed his contacts from blue to green.

That's an interesting point the vote splitting. It had occurred to me that if Jade and Drew had have happened for real that eventually one of them would be knocked out due to the vote splitting. Unfortunately I think that would have been Jade. Drew was extremely likeable with Jade at the start, if that had have continued I think he would have had a chance of winning. So yeah, it worked out well for her. I always said that Drew needed Jade to stay on top more than she needed him. I think the placings prove that. I know there's not much difference between 2nd and 4th but she destroyed him in the percentages.

Re early house dynamics...from what I remember that "cool" group didn't like Jade even before the Ed stuff. I remember Drew saying that nobody but Tim (another outcast) would talk to them.

I cant believe I am still not able to keep up in here and BB is finished lol.

Lucky I enjoy just hanging around anyway haha.

I agree, as a Drade fan (I still facepalm myself everyday because of my name - LOL) I was more Team Drew than Jade to begin with and would have stayed supporting Drew if it wasn't for the whole Tully relationship. I still don't like that he doesn't seems to feel bad at all at what had happened, no remorse that he was partly responsible for ruining someone's relationship.

As much as I don't like Jade being with Ed I don't think she would have been better with Drew either. He is very sly and not very trustworthy.
