Big Brother puts TV presenter in house but tells viewers Timmy Dormer is a student

Nine’s reality contest Big Brother has turned to the presenter of Southern Cross Broadcasting’s now defunct television chart show Hit List TV as one of its contestants.

However, Big Brother has presented Timmy Dormer, who has also worked for radio network Nova, to viewers as “environmental studies student Tim”.

Dormer briefly generated headlines late last year after streaking during a Rihanna press junket. He previously presented the Hit List TV show for Southern Cross Broadcasting until it was axed two years ago after the network merged with Austereo.

Tonight’s press announcement from Nine makes no mention of Dormer’s previous TV and radio career. It says: “Tim: 29. University student. Sydney. Easily distracted, rebellious and with an eye on having a good time, Tim is still trying to finish his science degree ten years after he started it. “My life is a constant search for weird and fun. There are no limits. I crossed that line years ago and life is so much more interesting on the other side.” Tim doesn’t believe in playing it safe: “If more people lived life like me I’d have more friends. To get more friends I’d have to sacrifice who I am. I can’t have both.”

Efforts appear to have been made in recent days to remove reference to his previous media career. Dormer’s LinkedIn profile appears to have been removed in the last few days although the link still appears in Google searches.

Heidi Anderson, co-presenter of the Heidi, Heath & Normy Show on Southern Cross Austereo’s NXFM in Newcastle, has also joined the lineup.

She only joined the radio station’s breakfast team in February of this year.

And the Big Brother casting team has also looked to the communications industry for a third contestant. Tully Smyth, who lists herself on Twitter as a social media strategist at DDB Sydney, also joined the house. According to her Google Plus profile, Smyth has also worked at Clemenger BBDO and she interned for website Pedestrian.

Last year’s series included Michael Beveridge, a copywriter at Brisbane agency The Hoopla Family who is now a presenter on Southern Cross Austereo’s SAFM, and Stacey Wren, formerly an account manager at Sydney’s Frost Design.

Actually, even though I saw that mumbrella article last night, a quick check of his Housemate profile showed that they weren't hiding he fact, but perhaps they could be accused of burying it.

His profile page says:

Tim loves the limelight, and having been a TV and radio host, he’s had several claims to fame.

So it turns out the first twist in Big Brother (Nine, 7pm) is that the house is cleaved in two by an almost invisible screen, leaving me waiting for Sonia Kruger to high-boot her way into every second scene in Under The Dome.

The producers of BB obviously believe that sticking a dozen regular attention seekers in a house littered with cameras is no longer enough for a voyeuristic world. And they've got a point, since most people these days live their lives on camera, tweeting or Instagramming what their meals look like, what their pets look like, and what they look like standing in front of the bathroom mirror without kit.

So far as social experiments go, dividing the group into haves and have-nots, the elite and the working class, is underwhelming. But at least it provides the housemates with an instant storyline.

It was slightly unfortunate that, after promoting the presence of an Australian war hero as a contestant, Matthew then chose a key that sees him sleeping on a half-sized bed, washing the other group's clothes and waiting until they've eaten to be offered a meal. Plus, he has to put up with Caleb, whose bleached teeth could light up a village.

Mercifully, on first viewing, none of the housemates - from Mikkayla to Shazza - is utterly obnoxious, and a couple have true comic potential.

Big Brother 2013 fails to generate buzz on Twitter

OPENLY gay Ben and ex-AFL player Ed Lower are set to duel it out for this year's Big Brother crown.

This year's winner could be the last however, as soft ratings were compounded by a lack of buzz on social media, according to analysis of Twitter conversations during last night's launch.

Last year, the official Twitter hashtag #BBAU peaked at more than 1000 Tweets per minute during the season opener, and attracted around 45,000 Tweets in the first day.

Best and worst things about BB

Yet this year the #BBAU hashtag has attracted less than 30,000 Tweets, barely registering more than 300 Tweets more per minute at its highest point during the launch broadcast.

Twitter doesn't mean much anyway. There have been some shows that trended highly on twitter but ended up getting extremely low ratings, like This Week Live which started last week on Ten.

Of course they are not on Twitter, we are all here. You can't have a conversation on Twitter

The most ridiculous Big Brother Australia twist yet?

433880-bb2013.jpg

THE latest layer of the Big Brother twist was revealed - two complete strangers thrown into the house posing as husband and wife. Could this just be the most absurd element of this season so far?

Meet Jade and Drew, the newest residents of the 2013 Big Brother house. The pair was introduced in the diary room, presented with a set of engagement rings and given mere minutes to conjure up a believable story as to how they met.

Within minutes of being thrown at the mercy of their 12 excitable new housemates, the 'newlyweds' faced some serious grilling.

KATIE and Lucy Mercer | Rohan

Sisters Katie and Lucy out to show Aussie TV viewers they're not 'blonde bimbos'

KATIE and Lucy Mercer are out to dispel the "dumb blondes'' stereotype when they appear on Big Brother tonight.

The Perth sisters enter the Big Brother house as Latecomers, along with Melbourne student Rohan.

Katie, 23, a nurse, and Lucy, 21, a student teacher, reckon they are often judged for their looks and not for their brains or personalities.

"Some people judge us and we want to show viewers that you can't judge a book by its cover," Katie says.

"Society thinks of us as blonde bimbos. They don't know who we are or our life experience. There's definitely more to us than meets the eye.

"I think it will be really fun to show people who we are. That's a big reason why we wanted to go on the show."

In a twist, Katie and Lucy will be counted as one housemate. They will enter the house together and if they are eliminated, they will leave together.

The vivacious sisters say they are best friends and inseparable. They constantly finish each other's sentences and regularly wear the same clothes.

"When Katie goes out to dinner with her boyfriend, I go too," Lucy says. "We constantly do everything together. We have a very close bond. We hope to be a means of support (to each other on the show)."

Rohan is a theatre student who already reckons he could turn out to be one of the bad guys on Big Brother.

"There are plenty of people I get along with," he says. "It didn't used to be like that but I'm becoming bitter with age. I really need to separate myself before I say something offensive."

The sisters' biggest stumbling block could come during the night.

"I have been known to sleep talk," Lucy says. "That could be an issue. Katie tells me I often sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in my sleep. If that happens at 2am it could annoy some of the sleeping housemates."

Katie, Lucy and Rohan have all been in lockdown over the past week and haven't seen any of this year's Big Brother.

Wasn't too impressed when I woke up to hear Fox FM in Melbourne interviewing Rohan live from lockdown this morning. Nothing was revealed to him of-course but the fact that they were allowed that contact just blew my mind.

The initial concept of Big Brother is slowly being lost.

Yeah, that is pretty pathetic!
