NEWCASTLE Big Brother contestants Mikkayla Mossop and Heidi Anderson knew each other before being thrown into the national spotlight on the reality show.

Mossop, 23, is a casual English teacher at Cessnock High School while Anderson, 29, co-hosts the brekkie show for Charlestown-based radio station NX-FM.

However, their paths had crossed because Mossop was a hugh fan of the radio show and had attended several outside broadcasts and events this year.

"Mikkayla would always say hello to us at outside broadcasts and message us on Facebook," NX-FM brekkie co-host Heath Piper said.

Anderson joined the Heath and Normy in Breakfast show at NX-FM in February and has been a hit with listeners.

"She's very confident, personable and open with her emotions," Piper said.

"She's made for that show. My pick is she will make it to the top two."

Piper said his only advice for his female co-host was to try not to swear too much during the first week.

"She can be a bit of a swear mouth," he joked. "I also helped her choose two nice outfits for her to take on the show."

The Newcastle radio breakfast team could be without their female colleague for as long as three months if she is successful on the reality show.

School teacher Mossop has also taken time away from her work.

Hunter Valley singer and colleague Kristen Lane, who teaches music at Cessnock High School, said Mossop was popular with students.

"She's a really nice lady, very friendly and outgoing," she said.

A South Korean orphan, Mossop was adopted by an Australian family when she was six months old.

After experiencing racist bullying at school she escaped into a world of books which led to university and a teaching degree.

"My life has not been smooth sailing but it has brought me to where I am today and for that I am grateful," Mossop said.

She was the first to enter the Big Brother house on the Gold Coast during the show's premiere on Monday night.

The house has been split in two- luxurious and underprivileged-with the overall winner claiming $250,000. Anderson is on the luxurious side while Mossop will have to rely on the daily hand-outs.

Tim is easily the most divisive contestant on Big Brother. Will that mean he is evicted on Monday night?

HOUSEMATES Tim, Drew, Jade, Heidi, Jasmin and Sharon are up for the first Big Brother eviction of 2013.

The six contestants will face it off in a public vote to determine who stays and who goes from the house.

The loser will be kicked out on Monday night's show.

Drew, an engineering student, and Jade, a model, were sent to elimination by Big Brother after failing to convince their fellow housemates that they were newlyweds.

Music media identity Tim, flight attendant Jasmin, and mother-of-three and former cop Sharon made the list after they received the most votes from the other housemates on Tuesday night.

Mikkayla, a high school teacher, was also on the list but in a last minute twist, Tahan was forced to swap a halfway housemate for a safe house housemate for the final list of potential evictees.

The switch, which came after a phone call from Big Brother, led to Heidi, a radio announcer, replacing Mikkayla for possible elimination.

Needless to say, Heidi was extremely upset to be on the hit list. Mikkayla had received the highest amount of nominations from the other housemates before the switch.

The decision by Big Brother producers to get viewers to vote on who stays, rather than who should be eliminated, makes it hard to predict who will go Monday night.

Tim is widely considered the most divisive contestant on the show but because he has just as many supporters as critics among viewers he is likely to be safe.

If the public had to vote on the housemate to eliminate rather than the housemate to save, there is every chance Tim would be out in a flash.

Drew and Jade could also gain public sympathy and be safe after criticism that Big Brother interfered and sabotaged their task of convincing the other housemates they were married.

SHARON is the first housemate evicted on this year's Big Brother.
The 41-year-old mother-of-three had been the bookies' favourite to get dumped from the Channel 9 reality show - and that is how it panned out.
The former cop and the oldest contestant on Big Brother was in the firing line for elimination after Mikkayla was saved last week.
Only around 4 per cent of viewers voted to save Sharon. Jasmine was next with 5 per cent.
The result is a slap in the face for the show's producers who had been criticised for not having some older housemates last year.
Last week Mikkayla scored 17 eviction votes from the other housemates with Sharon on 14. Jasmine had 11 with Tim and Heidi tied on 10.
"I'm disappointed, sad, annoyed and frustrated," Sharon said. "But I'm also happy in a way because I'll get to see my kids."
Sharon thought she was eliminated because "I held back a lot".
The other housemates agreed, criticising Sharon for holding back and not opening up to the Big Brother experience.

Housemates Jasmine, Heidi, Jade, Drew and Tim breathed a sigh of relief after they were spared by the public vote.
Drew dominated the public vote with 38 per cent. Tim and Jade each had 22 per cent followed by Heidi on 9 per cent.
Latecomers Katie and Lucy and Rohan will be part of the mix for the next eviction.
Punters currently have Ben as the $3 outright favourite to win this year's show. The former flight attendant is just in front of Ed ($5) and Matthew ($8).
In her younger life Sharon was a policewoman but rates her biggest achievement as losing 30 kilograms three times.
Sharon currently runs a personal trainer business.
"I always say strong mind, strong body and if you believe it you can achieve it,"
Betting agencies had predicted Sharon's demise.
"With Mikkayla being saved, Sharon received more (elimination) points than anyone else, so the market was tipping that voters (public) would follow the lead of the housemates and kick her out," Sportsbet's Shaun Anderson says.

Although I'm sure for many of us here it's the dream job it must be a bloody nightmare being the executive producer. For everyone wanting the divide to last for the long haul there is someone wanting it removed ASAP, for everybody wanting longer or later daily shows there's someone wanting them shorter and earlier.

Fantastic article and gave me some compassion for Alex.

He's still full of bullshit, they never show us conversation, we get no real group discussions content.
It's still hearsay BB, instead of real BB.

So we get, HMs discuss gay marriage - but not what they say. The never get rid of tasks and other shit, he's a liar.

i dont think anyones going to like this...

Election candidates to lobby Big Brother housemates
By David Knox on August 15, 2013

EXCLUSIVE: In an Australian Big Brother first, housemates are set to hear from federal election candidates and will be forced to lodge postal votes while they are still in the Big Brother house.

A Southern Star spokesperson has confirmed to TV Tonight that Clive Palmer and the Greens will record campaign videos next week to be screened to the Big Brother housemates.

Producers are still negotiating with Tony Abbott’s team for an opportunity in his schedule but surprisingly, but the “selfie” PM Kevin Rudd is proving to be camera shy.

“What the others have identified is that the young demographic of audience we reach on Big Brother is the hardest to hit in campaign trails so it’s a great chance to speak to that audience through the Big Brother Housemates. It should be fascinating to see how we can cover discussion of politics with this group,” they said.

It’s the first time in 10 seasons of the series that housemates have been inside the house during a Federal Election campaign. That puts the show in a rare position of being able to trigger some conversations about key election issues.

Executive Producer Alex Mavroidakis said, “They’ve all registered to vote, other than Jade who isn’t on the Electoral Roll. I don’t know if that’s because she wasn’t born in Italy and hasn’t registered yet. But they have all registered for Postal Votes and their ballot papers will arrive.”

Given the unique situation, the reality show is yet to work out how the vote will be covered on the show.

“At some point we will let them know the election has been announced and at some point we will call them all in to vote. I don’t know the legalities of it yet, but I would love to make some TV out of it,” says Mavroidakis.

“I’d love to get recorded messages from Rudd and Abbott.”

No word if the housemates are planning to evict KRudd on nominations night.

Been there, done that says Shazza.

Evicted Big Brother housemate concedes that the age gap between herself and other housemates left her feeling frequently apathetic about interacting with others.

The 41 year old mother of three was at least 8 years senior to her other housemates

“Most of my friends are early 20s and we get along fine,” she told TV Tonight.

“But it’s a little different when you are living with them and they are very big personalities and they are lot younger and crazy. There were times when I just couldn’t be bothered. Been there, done that.”

Housemates nominated her for eviction by saying she had been holding back.

“Looking back now I loved the experience. In a way I was maybe a little bit younger to appreciate it and go nuts. But it was a little bit hard being the mature housemate. I always felt like I had to watch what I did and say because of my kids,” she said.

“You have to find the right mix and the longer I’d have been in there I would have found it.”

Currently in the midst of publicity commitments (including The Footy Show last night) she’s pragmatic about her remaining colleagues.

“I’ll see them soon, but I’m not going to be friends with all of them, I can tell you that right now. You’re all lovey-dovey in the house but realistically you’re not going to keep in contact with all of them. There’s a handful that I will, so I look forward to that.”

Sharon also maintains that the ‘halfway house’ was every bit as bad as it looks on TV.

“It was pretty bad. The sleeping conditions weren’t the best. The showers were outside and we still had warm water but you want to go in to the BB house and live it up.

“I didn’t care about the living conditions. I didn’t enjoy it but I embraced it for what it was. At the end of the day I think I’ve learned a lot more about myself which is one of the reasons why I wanted to go in.”

Was she conscious of the cameras filming her the whole time?

“Not at all. You just forget all about it as soon as you walk in. You know that they’re there and there are times you might look off into the distance at them but you’re not conscious of acting up in front of them. I wasn’t any way,” she says.

“You might hear some noise going on but no, you’re oblivious to it all. That’s one thing that really surprised me.”

Despite being the first evictee, Sharon appeared pretty together when she walked onto the eviction stage on Monday night.

“Maybe it’s my maturity. I did feel a sense of calm once I got evicted. It was weird. I was upset but excited because it was a win / win for me. I got to experience this great opportunity and now I can share it with my kids. They keep me stable and grounded.”

Sharon had previously applied as a contestant on Amazing Race but it was Big Brother that proved successful.

“I watched it last year with my son and I applied 8 years ago when … I was single but obviously I wasn’t what they were looking for.

“I always wanted Big Brother. I don’t know why.”

And while Reality TV often gets a bad rap she remains supportive of the production and crew.

“The whole BB team have been fantastic and positive, having each housemate’s best interests at heart. They were wonderful with my family and kids, and I feel really secure with them. I said to Alex, ‘You’re going to be with me, you’re going to be with me.’ It was a sense of security,” she said.

“I wouldn’t change a thing. Loved every minute of it.”

If your interested, you can read an interesting article here

http://mappingonlinepublics.net/2013/08/13/australian-reality-tv-on-twitter-a-two-horse-race/

The article shows you twitter action for BB/MC/X-Factor, what's buzzing. It's XF/BB.
Interesting analysis and stats.

And.......the writer concludes

'When considering the viability of Live Feeds, such a social media presence cannot be ignored, and I continue to suggest that live feeds for reality TV shows are a weapon producers should use to their (social media) advantage.'

It's the point they are trying to ignore, live feeds create buzz & addicts and bump up the TV ratings. By ignoring this 9 are only getting half the product they could have.

Lol that survey is total bullshit.

I took it twice, 1st sensible answers and similar to your result.
2nd I gave all the flakey nutjob answers, life of the party crap - still a fence sitter with a score 10 points lower?!

Just did it again as a serious arsehole, 28, intellect and IN..............so it's just incredibly stupid criteria they use???

I am wondering if this is Ben from BB. There is no photo.

There were cheers as one of the protesters John Wyborn agreed to sign his varied bail conditions and be released from custody and then again as street performer Benjamin Zabel labelled the charges against him as outrageous.

http://www.abc.net.au/local/stories/2013/02/11/3687704.htm

I know it says Glenugie, but he could have travelled there or only moved back to Brisbane just recently.
Charges were dismissed.

Big Brother a boys' club, says booted Jasmin
Colin Vickery National TV Writer
From: News Limited Network
August 26, 2013 9:03PM

IT was second time unlucky for Jasmin, who was evicted from Big Brother tonight.

The 24-year-old flight attendant was eliminated from the Channel 9 reality show in a final showdown with Mikkayla.

Tim had earlier predicted that Jasmin would get the chop because she was "the least positive influence on the house and the most boring."

TV viewers obviously agreed. Jasmin received just six per cent of the public's vote.

Jasmin missed being eliminated by a whisker in the first Big Brother eviction a fortnight ago when mum Sharon went home.

Jasmin and Mikkayla fought it out after Ben, Tahan, Matthew and Katie &Lucy were deemed safe by host Sonia Kruger.

Nine's reality show turned into an extended promotion for its The Amazing 80s documentary series.

Kruger and the housemates spent the entire night in 1980s fancy dress.

Jasmin was forced to defend claims from the other housemates that she was untrustworthy.

Tim is still the favourite to win Big Brother after receiving a whopping 31 per cent of people's votes this week.

Katie &Lucy had 22 per cent, and Mikkayla on 15 per cent. Tahan and Matthew were equal with 13 per cent.

Jasmin showed more personality in her interview with Kruger than she did in her weeks in the Big Brother house.

"I've had an amazing time," Jasmin said after being eliminated. "I feel like there is a boys' club inside. I think one of them will win. I think Caleb (will win) but I want Heidi to win.

The past week with Jasmin was dominated by arguments with Tim - as well as a kiss.

"He thinks differently to most people," Jasmin said. "You love Tim and then you hate Tim."

From here.

For gods sake journalist the bloody show was on LAST night and you still can't get your facts right. Jeebus
