Jeepers that was quick..........and wow, I predicted it could be an American, Sth obviously.

Excellent, he's a reformer and it's about time a Sth American got it since most catholics are located there.

Taking Francis as his name is a sign to anyone brought up Catholic - he could be radically good for the church, and a Jesuit!
Jesuits are the smarty pants, and Fransicans are the beloved - the way they cared for my father when my mother died was remarkable. Fransicans are good guys.

Jesuits in the past were the political interferers for the church. The catholic political police so to speak. That's why they were the best educated

^ Wow !

So, should things go ok between now and next Tuesday for the single lunged 76yo, it looks like the RCatholics will have an Italian born Latin America serving Jesuit porteños (person of the port, in this case, the "Fair Winds" city founded by Peter/Pedro De Mendoza) who has chosen to to identify with the Italian Franciscans in this Year Of The Comet.

BTW, how interesting that Buenos Aires is somewhat like Vatican City itself.

Consider: "The city of Buenos Aires is neither part of Buenos Aires Province nor the Province's capital; rather, it is an autonomous district. In 1880, after decades of political infighting, Buenos Aires was federalised and removed from Buenos Aires Province The city limits were enlarged to include the towns of Belgrano and Flores (both are currently neighborhoods of the city). The 1994 constitutional amendment granted the city autonomy, hence its formal name: Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires (Autonomous City of Buenos Aires)."

And: "Vatican City ... or Vatican City State,[12] in Italian officially Stato della Città del Vaticano (pronounced [ˈstaːto della t͡ʃitˈta del vatiˈkaːno]),[13] is a landlocked sovereign city-state whose territory consists of a walled enclave within the city of Rome. It has an area of approximately 44 hectares (110 acres), and a population of just over 800.[3][14] This makes Vatican City the smallest independent state in the world by both area and population.

Vatican City was established as an independent state in 1929 by the Lateran Treaty ..."

Anyhoo, back to Comets ...

Quatrain II.46

"The great star for seven days shall burn

So nakedly clear like two suns appearing

The large dog all night howling

While the great Pontiff shall change his territory."

...

Quatrain VI.6:

There will appear towards the North

Not far from Cancer the bearded star:

Susa, Siena, Boeotia, Eretria,

The great one of Rome will die, the night over.

... and just for fun: http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread40021/pg1

Educators, philosophers, reformers it's a good sign in several ways............glad the conservatives backing Nigeria didn't win.

Jesuits are a bit sort of naughty, well smart enough not to be dogmatic

Within the Roman Catholic Church, there has existed a sometimes tense relationship between Jesuits and the Vatican due to questioning of official Church teaching and papal directives, such as those on abortion,[53][54] birth control,[55][56][57][58] women deacons,[59] homosexuality, and liberation theology.[60][61] Usually this theological free thinking is academically oriented, being prevalent at the university level.
From this standpoint, the function of this debate is less to challenge the magisterium than illustrate the church's ability to compromise in a pluralist society based on shared values which do not always align with religious teachings.[62]

The previous two Popes have appointed Jesuits to powerful positions in the Church; John Paul II appointed Roberto Tucci, S.J., to the College of Cardinals, after serving as the chief organizer of papal trips and public events. Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI have appointed 10 Jesuit Cardinals to notable jobs. Benedict XVI appointed Jesuits to notable positions in his curia, such as Archbishop Luis Ladaria Ferrer, S.J. as Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and Rev. Federico Lombardi, S.J., Vatican Press Secretary[63]. Pope Francis, elected in 2013, has become the first Jesuit Pope.

Anyway - my sister's and I found them very comforting and accepting when Mum died and we talked to them about abortion, the pill, being gay and all kinds of stuff. They told us jokes about the then pope and one was a music professor at Melb Uni who had been married and widowed, and another called himself a buddhist catholic and liked to hang out with the local Vietnamese.
They were like no other priests I have ever encountered.

Heh. Good Spot.

AFAIC though, "The Pope" is still Eggs Benedict and that any other "Pope" chosen while he is still alive is, at most, "Pope By Proxy" for "The Glory of The Olive", Ratzinger.

In short, it's still Pope number 111 re: that Irish Malachy thang. :D

Not that Mario Bros can't be "Petros Romanus", mind you ... all that could take would be some sort of repeated denial in order to save his skin, yes ?

Anyhoo, the Jesuits must be pretty happy about having what they consider to be TWO Pope's of their ideology on the throne ... their "Il Papa Nero" ("The Black Pope") Father Adolfo Nicolás of Spain, and now Mario Gog (Magog/Gog ?)

Anyhoo, Bring On the Comet ! :D

[ADIT] Ooops ? See: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/belief/2011/jan/04/argenitina-videla-bergoglio-repentance

the Argentinian navy with the connivance of Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, now the Jesuit archbishop of Buenos Aires, hid from a visiting delegation of the Inter-American Human Rights Commission the dictatorship's political prisoners. Bergoglio was hiding them in nothing less than his holiday home in an island called El Silencio in the River Plate. The most shaming thing for the church is that in such circumstances Bergoglio's name was allowed to go forward in the ballot to chose the successor of John Paul II. What scandal would not have ensued if the first pope ever to be elected from the continent of America had been revealed as an accessory to murder and false imprisonment ...

Oh well, he's in Rome now and is "doing as the Romans", all that different ?

Tons of items on google about this. Interesting find and cheers to the Curiosity Rover. You did will young robot.

Finding all the chemicals needed for life and offering the possibility, and I think a very good one that at some point in time Mars had the conditions for life, even if that was simple microbes and other such organisms. That's still life.

The universe is huge and with so many billions of stars and other solar systems around there is no reason why we are the only world blessed with life..

India is stuffed -

A 38-year-old Swiss national, who was taking a bicycle tour through Madhya Pradesh, was gang-raped, beaten up and robbed at gunpoint by more than six men on Friday night.

The victim, who resides in Lausanne, Switzerland, was with her husband when the horrific incident took place.

At least she didn't have her intestines pulled out and ripped off like the other girl. Not excusing this at all both incidents are horrific, but seriously that country is not safe for women.

^^^pretty sure she is still deeply traumatised even though her intestines are intact. Shocking, shocking crime. :(
