She doesn't know where she stands in the hierarchy, how dare she try to talk over the more deserving housemates.
Maybe she should just play with the horse as no body likes her in the house..but she'll get accused for that
She should just sit in the corner and talk to the mirror...oh wait she got accused when she did that too hmmm.

What's meant by high maintenance????
Estelle is in no need for attention but does like to socialise, she cares for others even though others don't respect her.
From what I can see the high maintenance is required by the other HM that need to sit in groups and badmouth Estelle, telling each other what amazing people they are and how good they are, they need to remind themselves daily, that's high maintenance!!!

You speak on her behalf like you know her.
Do you know how weird that is?

The reasons for the Estelle hate just doesn't add up, she does things that are irritating but not full blown hate that housemates have directed at her.
Bradley's an example, he was annoying to live with but the housemates eventually gave him the benefit of the doubt because that's Bradley.
I think that somebody in that house disliked Estelle almost from the get go and wouldn't give her the time of day from there on in, whether she made a stupid throw away comment or whatever, but it was held against her for the duration of the series and it snowballed and spread to other housemates (by said housemate).
Hating on somebody is very easy to do when somebody you are close to hates them and is very convincing in their reasoning.
But I think people want to believe that Estelle is some sort of impossibility to live with because then it warrants the heat she has got from everyone or their desire for her to 'lose' because of her 'rabid' fanbase.

I know, it's just so weird to me.
How do you really know "Estelle is in no need for attention but does like to socialise, she cares for others even though others don't respect her." You think you know her because you have watched her interact with people she has just met. That is not a representation of Estelle as a whole, it is just a tiny sliver of her.
You do understand that, yes?
There is a fine line between being an Estelle Fan (which is great) and an Estelle Extremist (which is a mental illness), I hope for your sake you don't cross that line.

I've noticed that when people talk to her she doesn't seem to be listening and offers short appropriate remarks in response while the other is still talking. Sometimes it's different when it's a one-on-one in an isolated area. Also, she seems to have a hard time putting together sentences well to explain how she's feeling whilst around HMs but it's a completely different story when she's in the diary room. This would be infuriating people the other HMs probably want to connect with her but she isn't letting anyone in, and covers whatever insecurities she has in the House with childish behaviour.
It probably is the HMs fault since she was so disliked from the start, but it has created an underdog for people to root for.
I don't really get why so many people like her since I find her boring, so she must have done something right- good on her.

Insightful observations, astr1d. But as you say, being slapped down a few times from the start, she was afraid to be herself in front of the others. She was constantly being reminded, sometimes subtly, sometimes not so subtly, where they thought she lay in the pecking order - which seemed to be somewhere between Surly and the toy horse!

I feel that Estelle became a victim of 'group think' early on.
A housemate voiced something about her that they didn't like. It was discussed and embellished upon by a group of people eager to get to know each other and find a secure footing in the 'group'. Estelle was categorised in a certain way in housemates memory sorting criteria (for example: butts in + pretty + smart = threat + annoying + tall poppy etc - these are only easy random examples to try and explain how this can happen so please don't jump in and ask me how I know she is this and that - ok?)
Now what happens is this: everytime Estelle does something that brings her to the attention of a housemate (anyone - it doesn't matter) they compare what they see to the memory file they have of Estelle and subconsciously find things about her behaviour/what she said/body language that supports this file and DISREGARDS anything that doesn't fit the file. They find confirmation about their belief of what "Estelle" is and store it in their memory file as support evidence.
This goes on for the entire time they are in the house because nothing has happened to change or influence their memory file of Estelle. If the Michael/Estelle hook-up had happened week 4 then the Estelle memory files would have been altered and the hate for her would not have built so far. If one of the unacknowledge but very present group leaders had decided that the information in their Estelle file did not match her behaviour and disregarded the file and started a new one based on what they saw, it would have been the influence needed to see Estelle in the way her friends and family do.
This is where it went astray for Estelle. It was nothing she did, it was nothing per se that anyone did as an individual, but as a group they created this version of Estelle 1.0 that they have been unwilling to change to an Estelle 2.0.
This is a really common social phenomenon that happens consistently in life - have a look at high school kids - they give you perfect examples of this every day with the socially isolated kid that noboby likes yet they go on to be shiny stars in their own lives.
