Estelle's "hard life"

This thread is full of way too much stupid. First of all, I strongly object to this notion that someone's economic status and material wealth is the best or only way to measure the difficulties they have faced in their lives. In reality, human beings have existed for 200,000 years in conditions which we would be tempted to label abject poverty, but does anyone honestly think that modern humans living in technologically advanced societies really have markedly better standards of wellbeing than these people did? In reality, it is culture combined with an individual's psychological disposition which determines their wellbeing. Sure, economic disadvantage is important within the context of culture, but how can people simply jump to the conclusion that Estelle can't have experienced difficulty in her live because she owns horses and land Rovers? It seems like a lot of people actually believe money buys happiness.

I read this thread because I wanted to know why so many people liked Estelle. I have seen no evidence in the show or the "live updates" of her being "beautiful inside and out" or being "entertaining, funny or interesting" nor have I actually seen the evidence of her stating that she had a hard life. The only evidence available is the reactions among the other HMs. Even Zoe said she regretted trying to get to know Estelle because she's annoying. We can only go by what they say she has said.

Given the fact that it is common knowledge that she was a model/actress signed to Star Now, two possible reasons for her "sudden" personal "wealth" maybe: 1. She is acting and bullshitting about her "hard life" or 2: She's a sex worker and accumulated wealth rapidly that way.

Thoughts?

Thoughts? That another Estelle hater is desperately clutching at straws to justify their irational dislike towards her.

First, as has been stated many times in threads on these forums, anybody can register on StarNow and create a profile. So, the fact she has or had a profile on that site actually means very little.

I am not even going to dignify the last part of your post with a comment, it does not justify one.

I will say again: Estelle, unlike pretty much everyone else in this series, has not resorted to bitching, back stabbing and gosip, and before anyone comes with the predictable line about edditing, this series more than ever has centred around housemates gosiping about each other, so don't even bother suggesting that they would not be showing us if Estelle was a participant in that.

As for whether she has had a hard life, as I said in a previous post, nobody but someone who knows Estelle personally is in any position to comment on that, simple.

i just think she is a young girl developing and hardship is not something she has yet experienced but heartache i'm sure and she's getting the two confused.....but i haven't seen anywhere she has complained of hardship so its a moot point i guess haha

I don't know if I'm a "hater", Matt34. I just don't understand why she's so popular.

A dear friend of mine bought her mother a house after 6 months of working as a lapdancer/sex worker. Girls with the looks can use them. Just sayin'

Just to respond to your last paragraph. She applied to participate in the BB show which is broadcast 6 days a week nationally. She decided to tell people on this show she has had a hard life, I think it is fair that we as the viewers are allowed to comment. If you have a secret best kept to yourself, it's advisable not to bring it up (or pertain to it) on national TV.

Exactly!

I doubt it would survive the thorough vetting of HMs by BB, or the national exposure on TV either. Can't see the producers, or Estelle herself, taking that risk.

But a theory that has crossed a few people's minds I bet.

As for Estelle, a 24yro law student? Something doesn't add up. I remember her in a trivia quiz in an earlier episode.

However I make these comments as a supporter of Estelle in the show.

Growing up as a lesbian in Moe would suck. Big time. That would be a hard life...

Pretty sure her hard life is relating too relationships or whatever is going on inside her head not money.

There was a live update yesterday (which I can't find) where Bradley asked Estelle how she got her 2 properties, and she answered " I work for the government, that's all I can say"...or something similar to that. I'm not sure what government job gives you properties, but, maybe she CAN"T say how she got them.

I think she is full of it.

Nothing annoys me more than innuendo and faux mystery, if you have told everyone you have two properties, carry on the story when questioned further, it's no big deal. If you don't want to disclose info about it, you should not have boasted about it in the first place.

Totally agree. That must be why she gets along so well with Ava. They spend their whole time alluding to their mysterious lives. Can't say anything about it, mind you. It would take a whole day to explain. Not like they have anything other than bloody time in their, but still. MEEP

"Work for the government and that's all I can say?" Does she change the job vacancy ads on the bulletin board at Centrelink?

Those pants are over two decades old so it’s a good chance she found them in an op shop.

Even if Estelle does have money, as has been clearly pointed out by others, wealth is not a barrier to pain and hardship.

Actually yeah those pants have a Daimaru logo on the tag. They closed down in Australia a decade ago.

The price is not in Yen so she didn't get them in Japan. Clearly not new.

Well in that case, great find I'm an Op Shop fan and have my fair share of bargains over the years. I once found a real Channel black quilted cross over bag, sold it on ebay for over $600.

and yep as I also clearly pointed out I too think her "hard time" is not related to money but relationships etc.

It's no barrier to life problems but hardship is a word most closely associated with economic privation. Money doesn't buy happiness but it does allow you so suffer whatever problems you do have in a degree of comfort. As the Charles Bukowski character says in Barfly, "nobody suffers like the poor."

Utterly true. Even a wealthy person with a hard life has a certain degree of power and control and even choices. Poor people lack all of these. We must also take into consideration that while we have poverty in Australia we also have opportunity and a standard of living that others could only dream of. Like the kids these days say, our economic complaints are first world problems.

I can't imagine someone working for government going on BB.
