I call bullshit. What would you watch a movie on a CD on? If DVDs weren't invented neither were DVD players and computers had floppy discs.

thats what i thought... but then there were a fair few computers with just cd roms... maybe

Yes there were and they were capable of playing vcds.

I have many training manuals (from the old days) that include video...goes back to Win95.

So why not movies...

I had a few CDs in the early 90s that had extra CD-rom content. Not full movies, but video clips. And laserdiscs were around (but ridiculously expensive) from 1983 or so. There were probably VCD's in Japan well before DVD hit the market too.

Cowie there were CD roms around. As Megan said I had a CD rom drive back in 1994 when these were first on the market. The first disk like this I had was the Girlfriend single "sooner or later"

I scored a laserdisk player for $25 second hand.. And Amazon has a few disks for $4.99. Only catch is the sellers don't ship to Australia so you might need a shipping option or friend in the US to mail it to you.

I had lord of the rings (illegally) on Vcd. Really cheap to make and work exactly like a DVD, only dodgier quality and takes up 3 disks.....

Woohoo!!!
New series of The Graham Norton Show starts Thursday November 10 on ABC2! :D

Hehe don't you mean 8 dvd's :)

One CD would hold 1/4 a DVD if that......

Oh though back in the old days they did have movies on CD but the picture quality was abysmal. I think the only title I saw many copies of was Dirty Dancing. It was called "movie on CD" or something. This was just before DVDs hit the market.

I remember those! I had Young Guns and Princess Bride....yeah just watched them on the computer.

Looks like Channel 9 are going to resurrect Celebrity Overhaul, but this time they're calling it Excess Baggage.

I had a Laser disc player and load of discs, cost me a fortune but it was cutting edge at the time. My favorite discs were the Star Wards Trilogy, The Cure Live, Planet of the Apes.

Does anyone know when season 2 of downton abbey will be shown here? I was thinking of ordering it on bluray (it's already released) from Amazon UK for mum & dad for christmas.

I haven't heard any specific date as to when it will air yet, but Seven definitely won't show it now until the ratings season resumes next year (if they plan to screen it using DWTS as a lead in again, you're looking at sometime into autumn/winter), so I'd go ahead and get it for them. What a cool gift - to get to see it before their friends!:D
