Same here, I am very interested to see if little ol me even makes a difference. I sooo hope it does.

There are only 5,000 of the things in the whole country though so doubtful. Why don't they just make more of the darn things?

I can't be too superior though, whilst I love my doco's and shows like Breaking Bad, I will happily sit and watch the Hills / Kardashians / Girls Next Door ha ha. I'm a dichotomy :)

I have a vague idea I read somewhere that one ratings metre is counted as 10,000 views?

I would love to see some kind of in-built device in all digital TVs that could send OzTam acurate info about EXACTLY what EVERYONE is watching. I bet the daily ratinga list would read a whole lot differently if that happened.

I think so - 5,000 meters x 10,000 = 5 million (I hope or I suck at maths)

That is still only an extrapolation of a fifth of the country though, what are the other nearly 20 million people doing that night?

Yeah but every TV having that is a bit intrusive unless you can disable it

yeah an easily disabled system to access info from anyone who wants to do it would be good. We did the ratings box for a while about 10 years ago now, during the olympics we had it. It was a bit tricky remembering things - like putting in who was there at any specific time - but it was cool to have an actual voice and know what you watched counted, its like people now who turn off in protest - I'm like um unless you have that box they don't know/care/have a clue you've done that.

I applied to do it again now but didn't get selected :(

The problem with that is that it would be expensive to implement, and I disagree that the results would be different. The more people they survey, the results would stay the same.....

Not to mention some peoples fear of someone knowing that they watch 2.5 men and then using it against you....

They just rang me up to do a survey first and then I obviously fitted in with the range of people they choose. I thought because we didn't have any kids they may have not picked us.

I don't think it is something you can ask to have - bit like Oprah tix :)

Hope Nielsen hasn't been spying on me here and at Tv Tonight!!

I have never understood why they can't measure single strength or something like that, surely if x number of people are watching a channel there is some indicator of take-up somewhere.

I saw the ned of another 'Club Reps' show on 72 the other day - can't remember which one but it was your usual trashy brits drinking themselves into a stupour.

Has anyone been watching The Adventure Of English on SBS2?
I'm finding it really interesting.

Oh I missed it, i love stuff like that, anything about origins of language etc.

I'm enjoying the old Cheers eps, I never saw them, and it's cute and funny.

I'm addicted to Craig Ferguson.

Anyone watching Coach Trip? Weird pommie thing. Coach full of poms touring somewhere in Europe and they vote off a pair each show, and get a new pair. Not especially exciting, ok filler if your an insomniac like me.
I thought with all of the extra digital channels I would get some more good trashy TV.

Yeah. It really makes me appreciate our language so much more. The richness of it, and what we've absorbed from other languages. I think if I had the opportunity to go back to uni and study anything, linguistics would be my subject of choice.
Tonight they covered the Renaissance period (mainly Shakespeare's contribution), and next week we're setting off to America.

I've seen a bit of coach trip before. Late night on ABC2 I think? Quite amusing.

when A was about 4 he was going to become a linguist. Lasted quite a few years. He's into science and computers now but he loves language. Sounds like his kind of show if I could convince him to watch it (he also doesn't like new things :o)

I wouldn't be surpised if ratings boxes weren't built into TVs these days and we would be none the wiser. They watch us everywhere else, the worst, Google is just damn creepy!

Anyone going to give Ben Elton Live From Planet Earth a go tonight?

its background noise here at the moment.

oh look at that, its kylie mole but not
