Last movie you saw

Centurion

About the Ninth Legion and what happened to them. Yeah this is a decent enough film. It's a film about the Romans in Britain and it's much smaller than most films about Romans and it's decent enough. It's about the Battles with the Picts. Basically about a small band who are all that was left being hunted. It's a gritty dark kind of bleak film. It is what it is, nothing you should rush out and see and probably a bit dull for a lot of people. I found it decent but nothing great or to write home about. Which was a shame as Neil Marshalls previous films seemed to show much more style and flare. Even Doomsday which is a guilty pleasure seems to just have so much more going on, in style, direction, action, intensity. Which he wrote while inspired while researching this, so it's s shame that disposable fun action film had more going on.
If you like roman stuff, and want to see kind of a small gritty, bloody few romans chased by Picts it does that and well.

Inception, it sounds complicated and looks it too. Is it going to tie my brian into knots while watching it, cos if it is, I won't bother.

Monsters

This reads like a great film, surprisingly shot with only a $15,000 budget...

But some of the plot reminds me of the comedy Evolution which deserved way better reviews, and a sequel......

Anyway this looks kind of good. I might even buy this from overseas, as there's yet no info on release over here...

Ninja Assassin

Well what to say about this highly entertaining film. There's lots of action, lots of blood and i mean lots of blood. There's fountains of blood every time someone gets hit with a sword, a ninja star, a knife on a metal rope. So if gore even when over the top on purpose isn't your thing than yeah... not for you. It's got a decent enough plot to keep together all the action and never tries to pretend it's being serious, while maintaining a serious tone. Just a sold entertaining action flick that's loads of fun to watch.

The Green Slime.

A 1960's MGM-Toho collaboration. American actors with classic Godzilla style Japanese special effects.
It starts great. These great models of spaceships flying about. Perfect if you like that kind of stuff. And you have the rock jawed heroes and hot babe love interests all being very cliched.

But then... they land their spaceship on an asteroid heading for Earth... it starts as a version of "Armageddon" or "Deep Impact". And they plant nukes and blow it up. They survive, but bring back to the Space Station a little bit of Green Slime.

Which grows and grows... We're sort of hoping it will be like The Blob, but no.

As my wife who sat down for 5 minutes of this nonsense said, "These have to be the unscariest monsters I have ever seen." They are pretty fricken awful.

Anyway. It was quite fun. Terrible, but wonderful.

Where did you get that?

I LOVE THE THEME SONG........IT'S SO COOL............

I have been watching Roger Corman's early horror flicks......

Forbiden World
Galaxy Of Terror
Starcrash - Not horror but it is so bad it should be.

Nah, it is all quite straight forward and makes simple sense.

When watching it, just think in layers. Each layer "in" is a deeper directed dream-state in which more can happy quicker than the previous layer. IE, so 2 seconds in the Real World might be 10 minutes in the first layer dream and maybe 2 hours in the next layer dream within a dream, and maybe two days in the next layer dream within a dream within a dream, and maybe two weeks in the next layer in.

In short, in the time it takes to sneeze in the real world, many hours of activity may have gone by in the dream state layers.

Surely you've had a dream which seemed to go for hours and hours but when you woke up you discovered that barely minutes had passed ?

Oh I acquired it by dodgy means. The theme song is great. Something you can dance to.
I've had a poster for the movie on my wall for years, so I had to finally see the thing.

I have Galaxy of Terror, but I haven't sat down to watch it yet.
Starcrash was an Italian Star Wars knockoff, yes? With Caroline Munro looks hot in a leather bikini. And the Hoff! David Hasselhoff!

Yes Starcrash was Italian Star Wars....... The only saving grace was Caroline Munro...... And she was also good in the 1970's "At The Earth's Core"

I wish movies like Green Slime would hurry up and get on DVD but it would probably be a shitty transfer that they do if that happens. Like "Flight To Mars" fun movie but the picture quality was sucktacular.......

Galaxy Of Terror is cultish because of the infamous maggot scene...... Must be watched in full to appreciate how bad the whole movie is but most Corman fans talk about the infamous maggot scene..... How the hell did Roger Corman become such a popular director with crap like this?

Actually the quality of the image on Green Slime is very good. It's one of those films made in the transition from B&W to Colour, and so they went for strong, almost fluoro colour schemes. Bright Oranges and blues. All crisp and bright.

So no grainyness?

Any chance of a copy of the film?

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

I have to admit i really had given no attention to this film. I was aware of internet buzz but the little bits I saw made it just seem try hard and yeah.

It's actually quite an entertaining film. It's very random and all over the play but in a good way. All sorts of pop up graphics to enhance the film, stylised fight scenes, no clear sense of a real world reality at all. Trying to capture a video game type feel with the freedom of a comic book. Trying to put that artistic styles and accents and touches into a film.

It's really hard to explain. I don't know how, like scenes just change, the fight scenes are over the top and cartoony. There's lots of humour and nice subtle touches. Michael Cera is doing what he does well and it all works.

It's probably not for a lot of people, but I guarantee it's a film that a lot of people will only go see from word of mouth.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned but did you guys hear about the Scrooge McDuck / inception story? I saw it on TMZ the other day.

Apparently there is an old Scrooge comic when the Beagle Boys are trying to steal his safe combination and they do it by..............going into his dreeam! Ooooo and more than that, the comic says that when you fall in a dream you always make up!!

Rip off or one hell of a coinkidink? http://boingboing.net/2010/08/03/inception-ripped-off.html

I think I read that comic at my Grandparents house once btw.

There is nothing new in Hollywood. Ideas are always being ripped off and altered to make new ideas........

Still that is pretty darn close coincidence!

On another movie note, they had Friday the 13th on last friday and a mate of mine was watching it and right in the middle his whole suburb had a blackout ah ha ha ha ha - how many people wet themselves that night!!

Do you know the rolling ball in Raiders of the Lost Ark was also taken from Uncle Scrooge? Like the entire opening scene was.

The idea of going into someone's dream is nothing unique at all. Although calling it a rip off is a bit drastic. Especially with what Inception did with the idea.
