Last movie you saw

Sherlock Holmes

Quite good, glad to see holmes is still a good logical thinker and scientist, which i was worried they might have ruined. Very enjoyable film and I can't wait until there's a sequel and hope they make many of them!

The Brothers Bloom

Was enjoyable, amusing and quirky at times. I did feel that it wasn't quite as clever and amusing as it could/should have been, but it was still good!

We watched the Muppet Movie last night.
All these 70's celebs doing cameos. Kojak, Milton Berle, Steve Martin (when he was young and funny).
Very 1970's hippy and hypercolourful, and lots and lots of bad puns.

"Someday we'll find it. The Rainbow Connection. The Lovers, the dreamers and me..."

I like Animal.......

He went up a guest's jumper one episode and they have never ever repeated that episode. I swear it happened and the guest was some lady actor or something.

"Under the Mountain", a Kiwi film (sci-fi, horror), based on a novel from the great Maurice Gee.

I remember the book, and the tv series, as an 11 year old (in 1981, gulp).

This 2009 movie, made with the help of Weta, was pretty darn good based on the make-up, special effects, the suspense levels and the Auckland cinematography. It's always fun to spot the local landmarks also.

Sam Neil was the only international persona as an aged good guy, and he hammed it up quite well:

"You mean you left her alone?!! At Lake PUPUKE!!"

(Classic line) :D

West

WEST

This was on channel 9 last night.

I couldn't work out what they were trying to say in this dark depressing movie.

If anyone understood it please tell me.

Watched Transformers 2 again, enjoyed it much more the second time. Just big goofy over the top, unrealistic silly fun.
The worlds worst geography in a film, both real world and action scene plotting wasn't something that took me out of the film this time. So yeah really enjoyed sitting back for mindless fun entertainment.

2011 bring on 3!

Margot At The Wedding

It was ok, very slow & whispery, & dark (as in taking place in the dark, rather than in tone).

Go West! Life is peaceful there, go west In the open air.

I wish.....

The movie was qutie depressing. Most of it was them sitting in some area that looked like one of those concrete channels that are besides some roads for water to drain along. anyway mist of what you saw was them sitting there drinking and being off their face... Was just very depressing.

Well we can't all live in a house of chocolate.

"The Lovely Bones"

It was good to see a Peter Jackson movie again, and half the fun was trying to spot his 5 second background cameo (as usual).

The movie itself was quite chilling in parts and good suspense, Stanley Tucci is fab as the ghoulish Mr Harvey. Shot in NZ but you would never guess it, the set looked very much like semi rural Pennsylvania.

Unfortunately, though, the end was very disjointed with too many loose threads and an unsatisfying climax. So, a good effort but ultimately disappointing, 6/10.

That's a shame because I really wanted to see this.

Does the girl really come back from deah to help her dad solve her murder? I mean even the TV ads mention it so it's hardly a spoiler.

I just finished reading The Lovely Bones.
It was great for the first half of the book then dragged.

This movie gets a lot of bad reviews on Rotten Tomatoes

Hey, I won't give away any spoilers! Once a dude tried to strangle me when I gave away the ending to Aliens 3....

But you're correct about the girl. As the promos show, she inhabits a kind of limbo after life (a bit like the movie 'Ghost' but replete with 'Heavenly Creatures' type fantasy sequences).

You may like the ending more than I did, and this film has had good and not so good reviews from the critics. He's still a good story-teller, is PJ, though here he is adapting a novel.

It's probably still worth seeing for the ride anyways.

I just watched Precious.
It's pretty confronting (a couple of moments I found really hard to watch), but well worth a look for Gabourey Sidibe and Mo'Nique's performances. I can totally understand the Oscar buzz surrounding the film. Surprisingly, even Mariah Carey didn't stink.

Has anyone read the book it's based on (Push by Sapphire)?

"Smoking Aces" - that one with Ryan Reynolds, and Ben Affleck (briefly) in it.

Was really too tired to follow the convoluted plot too much, it just seemed to be constant firing of guns and mayhem. When you watch something in bed late at night you usually don't care too much about following the convoluted schemata between various gangster cartels.

Lake Tahoe looks beautiful however, with the shades of the trees and the hills etc, so that was most of the fun.

Hey for some reason I am in the mood to watch movies about people being burnt at the stake. Does anyone know of any good ones besides Joan of Arc?
