Last movie you saw

Cutthroat Island

Despite the fact this movie was a box office failure, being released in the wrong part of the year back in 1995 it's quite a fun movie... Had this been a summer release in the US that year it may well have done better.

The story of Morgan Adams played by Geena Davis daughter of a famous pirate who takes up her father's cause to find a fabled treasure.... Her nemesis in the movie is her uncle Black Dawg played by Frank Lagella with great gustow. There is plenty of action in this both on land and at sea and for the price I think this was an underrated bargain.

6/10

The Abyss Extended Edition

I honestly think that this film is very underrated. Just depends on which version you see. I have both the standard theatrical version and the special edition that has all the major deleted scenes put back in. Having said that the longer version makes a hell of a lot more sense then the theatrical version and why they chopped out certain scenes baffles me.

The message was IMHO very similar to the message that Klaatu gave humanity in the original Day The Earth Stood Still, that there are powerful forces out there, or in this case o our very own planet that are watching us and have a warning for us to stop our warring ways.... My favourite scene was those mile high waves frozen in mid air.... It was beautiful and yet scary at the same time. It also made more sense with that scene in the film with Bud's conversation with the water aliens.

I still love this film after many years.

Anyone else here like this film or have any thoughts on it?

Oh I love the Abyss. I wont underrate it. Back when Cameron was the God of Directors.
The underwater pod, containing a psycho Michael Biehn, tipped over the edge of an underwater, well, abyss, and slowly falling as the pressure gradually crushes his pod... little cracks in the glass, more and more. Terror. Then *squish*.

I'll have to go search out the extended edition now.

It's worth it if you can find it.

I also liked the B plot of the whole love plot with Bud and Lindsay and thought that was handled quite well. Not normally a fan of B plots in movies especially when it involves "love" and other mushy stuff. But in this case it was handled quite well.

I did have a problem believing though that she designed that underwater rig. She didn't strike me as the mechanical type girl.

I need to rent out the Abyss. I love Jim Cameron, but I've never got around to watching it

All this talk of Jim Cameron makes me want to go find his Piranha II: Flying Killers.

Let the Right One In (Låt den rätte komma) a Sweedish Film – OMG what a superb movie!!!!!!!!

I have not seen this great a movie since American Beauty or Shawshank Redemption.
It is a vampire movie involving two 12 year old kids Oscar and Elly (she is the vampire). It is a wonderful movie, I believed every bit of it, it was subtle, sensitive, poignant and moving. Wow, I sit here in awe – it makes Twilight look like the worst movie made in history. I urge anyone who loves watching movies to get your hands on a copy.

Be warned the copy I have is badly dubbed (I prefer subtitles) and written letters and flashes of newspapers were not translated so I lost a bit along the way but this did not affect the movie. It was a long one at 115 minutes but I didn’t notice. I defy anyone to tell me it was shite, lol :p and I look forward to everyone raving about this :)

I loved Let The Right One In. It's such a beautiful film. Thankfully I watched it with subtitles, dubbing is usually terrible.

Okay. I'll put it on my list.

Buckaroo Banzai - Adventures in the 8th Dimension.
It was so fun to see this movie again.
A whole movie of "Quirk".

It gave us the line "No matter where you go, there you are".
You've got Peter Weller as Buckaroo. A Japanese-American scientist/brain surgeon/stunt driver/80's Rock Band member/all round Hero, out to save the world from Doctor Lizardo, played by John Lithgow really playing it up and quite wild and hilarious.

You've got Rasta Aliens, Yoyodyne Industries "The Future Starts Tomorrow", bad 80's Rock, and a really cute end theme tune that I've put as my ringtone.

Yeah this is a great film. When i saw it in cinemas, i think i was just too young, always remembered it as boring. I was probably 6 or 7 when it came out. '89 yeah? Years later caught it on tv, really liked it. Then a few years passed and got the dvd and yeah really liked it. Only think i've seen the extended edition in repeated viewings. This is definitely on my re-buy on blu-ray when released list.

It's also a technically well made film, and the behind the scenes is fascinating.

I loved the manta ship...... I also loved the idea that these aliens didn't come from space but were living in our oceans watching us

well i thinik it's not answered. Up to you. Didn't james cameron make one of his 3d imax films that had a race of water people from europa which were like the ones in the abyss?

How did you make the ringtone? Can you send me a copy?
