Shirley Mott, aged 92

Shirley shook a tin for the Salvos every single day for 26 years, standing at the Myers/Railway station overpass crossing over Wellington St. in Perth. She was a bit of a fixture in that spot. In that time she raised $1.7 million.

There's now a petition to rename that walkway/overpass crossing Wellington St after her.

I have incredibly vague memories of that show. I was just a bub when it was made, but in NZ in those days they took several years to air overseas shows. Even so, I would still have been pretty young. I remember the terms "electrickery" and "telling-bone" but really nothing else about it.
