I actually don't mind her comments, it's kind of refreshing to see a pollie that acts like a normal person. She is a bit rough around the edges..... Well she is from Tassie so that make sense.... LOL.
She has defended herself and I agree with her. She was talking to heart fm not the abc.

If a male politician said on the radio that he wanted a girlfriend who was good at house keeping and was nice and tight. Would you think that acceptable and fine?

Nope.
As much as people these days think/want to believe that males and females are equal we are not. There are different rules for each gender, I know this is probably an overused example but I'll use it anyway.... I could not go out a fuck as many guys as I wanted without being called a slut, whereas a man can sleep with lots of women without having the same stigma attached to them.

If it was a joke, I would find it tasteless but possibly funny depending on the delivery. Most people are aware that relationships are built on much more than wallets, neatness and genitals but they can still make light of coupling with over the top references to stereotypes with fantasy characteristics. If we can't laugh at ourselves then it's a sad old world.

Both gender examples are fine by me though a smart politician would steer clear of making jokes of this ilk and passing it off as humour for this very reason, it can backfire and bring unnecessary negative reaction. Don't see the relevance of slut 'shaming' though, it's a myth that men are the instigators of slut 'shaming'. Most women don't advertise their promiscuity and the ones who are blatantly open about it, it's mostly other women (worried about their own man straying and having a piece of that) who gossip and 'shame' them behind their backs. Generally speaking men appreciate 'loose' women, they don't look a horse gift in the mouth so on and so forth they just gleefully rub their hands and wait their turn.

I wonder how the debate would be if the young guy on the phone went, 'you want a guy with a big dick? you must be pretty loose then, so I will pass.'

Nope.

See here in lies the issue. It seems to be going back to the stereo type that men are tough, not emotional, not sensitive not allowed to be. Don't have feelings an insecurities.

There are differences, I think the assumption both are the same leads to a lot of foolishness but I don't think that is the issue here.

You can say such things jokingly. However it doesn't mean either sends the best message to society.

As for slut shaming, is that really a thing any more though?

It seems to go both ways in my opinion.

Yeah it's fine to laugh at, it's just the bend over backwards people are going to pretend that it's a completely reasonable comment to make. I have heard comments here and there reinforcing the joke as reality.

You can have a laugh at it, but it's the pretending that it doesn't bare the possibility of offending and sending a negative aspect is the bit that needs to be high lighted.

Men's concern about Penis size is at least equal to woman's concern about breast size. Probably more .If you ever read up about it, as much as there's the focus on 'porn given man the wrong view of what real woman look like.' There's a huge issue with men feeling inadequate due to only being exposed to monster dongs in porn. Then on top of that where people can get a sense of the size of breasts, it's not a 'secret' 'hidden' things like penis size which adds to the insecurity.

I should clarify for the record. I am perfectly fine in this department.

Actually thinking about it, the is the aspect of guys doing for a 'slut' because they're considered to be more of a sure thing.

However I have seen and know plenty of girls who have hooked up with a 'player' because he's considered to be more of a sure thing, to know what he is doing. And / or the perception that if someone doesn't present or have a reputation as a player. That they will get over bearing and attached.

It goes both ways.

My comments were in reference to people who claim that female 'sluts' are viewed in a dim light. Whilst that might be true, it is invariably men who are blamed for spreading this 'negative' perception when in reality it is other women who perpetuate it the most.

IMO it is a strategy by (sexually conservative?) women to keep promiscous females (i.e. sluts) in line in order to safeguard their own male partners. So to argue that there are different set of 'rules' for the sexes in regards to promiscuity is a bit disingenous when those enforcing those so-called 'rules' are of the same sex and has little to do with men.

In any case I'm not sure how that's relevant to the low brow humour the tassie pollie indulged in. Both male and female pollies would be frowned upon by a large segment of the constituency for making 'lewd' comments of that sort, thems the breaks for being in office I guess. lol

I couldn't disagree more, Connoisseur. I guess that you are saying that the 'promiscuous' women that you know are labelled as sluts by other women? This is anecdotal evidence, which is hardly evidence at all. Believe me, there are plenty of us who trust our partners, and if they stray, THEY stray and for me, that's good riddance. It is not the fault of the 'other woman'. You also mentioned in an earlier quote that men are very happy to have these so-called promiscuous women around, intimating that they just enjoy the gift of a free ride. I realize that this was a joke, but your choice of words is very unfortunate and it does sound as if you consider that these women are useful but still 'slutty', and consider that the men involved are entitled to enjoy the sex without being stamped with a belittling label. It really seems that women are doubly to blame in your opinion. The slutty ones are great for a quickie, but the one's that you marry are bitchy gossips intent on keeping their men at the expense of their sisters. This is simply not true.

Slut - I haven't heard that word in years.

Does anyone give a crap any more how many sexual encounters anyone has?

Why?

As long as you are healthy, clean, unattached and not invading any other relationship, or hurting anyone.
Other people rutting away like rabbits means nothing to me, must be tiring, but who cares - and why care?

You're reading more into my comments than I intended. By all means judge these 'slutty' promiscous men equally harshly if you so wish. Believe me when I say your average group of males don't spend time judging women for being 'sluts' as I think other women do gossiping about it. That was the gist of my argument nothing more nothing less.

HOWEVER:
You also mentioned in an earlier quote that men are very happy to have these so-called promiscuous women around, intimating that they just enjoy the gift of a free ride.

Can you blame men for that? Women tend to gravitate towards the tall, dark and handsome types with a big fat wallet to boot! :p You'd say that that's completely understandable, women are after all looking for what suits them (and their potential offspring) best. :whistling:

Well men are also entitled to look for traits in a partner that suits them and their future interest (i.e. starting and raising a family) as well. Women who have a large number of partners don't instill confidence in many men that they could be 'faithful' wife material hence why there's a 'stigma' among men to give women who have been known to be higly promiscuous a wide berth. To me this attitude is just plain common sense, there's no malice involved in this line of thinking just self preservation/precaution, just as it is for women who cull 'undesirable' men for their own personal reasons.

In the same way women avoid 'losers' (men who according to them don't earn enough or don't possess attractive genes in their opinion), men tend to avoid certain characteristics in women that they don't find desirable for long term committment.

Yet I rarely (once in a blue moon perhaps) hear too much criticism of women for having a 'gold digging' outlook in partners, on the contrary it is encouraged and passed off as having 'standards'. Like Inigo said, women and men are not alike but the reasons those differences exist aren't as nefarious as some (from each gender's perspective) seem to think.

Around 630 Palestinians reported dead, 155 are children. CHILDREN! I don't care about the religious arguments, the Israel state having a right to defend themselves, the Hamas using Palestine people as shields etc. who gives a shit! Just make it stop! This is inhumane and I can't and I really mean this I can't effing believe that nothing is being done. My heart bleeds for the survivors who will forever have their hearts tainted by sorrow and will not see life in all it's beauty. For every argument someone puts across, all I think is what if that was you? These people have seen beauty in life through their children- it's dead to a lot of them now- they may have lived but their emptiness lives on only. Be grateful that we live in a country where we can always have this beauty. Whether that is feeling freedom, having your parents alive and well your children safe in your arms, that the only worry is having your homework in by Friday etc... but how can you not feel enough compassion to not want them to be rescued and experience the same simple joys? I'm not one to care about who is right and wrong in such things, I just want people to have the same chance that I have everyday to feel happiness.

@Connoisseur in my experience, in general it's not about the number of sexploits anyone has had - it's whether they have a healthy sexual attitude.
Such as, I know a professional prostitute who is very happy in her work, and who is very happily married with children.
