Why do you all like Tim so much?

You are assuming here that Ben is a loyal friend. There are several things to consider regarding Ben's comments about Tim. Is Ben really a gold-standard example of a good, loyal friend upon which to measure his comments about Tim? Do you recall the conversation about dropping the friend over the cost of a pie and drink?
Ben sought Tim out several times for emotional support, and was given it, far better emotional support and compassionate advice than the "you'll be right, chin up mate" or "you're wonderful, be yourself, keep being exactly as you are" drivel that other HMs gave him. Tim cared about Ben and considered his post-BB life, not just the day-to-day stuff that was happening at the present time. It's telling that Ben sought Tim out in times of need. If he was "just his punching bag", do you really think he would do that?
When Ben was fake evicted, he was privy to Ed sounding off in the Diary Room about whaddyaknowwhodathunkitsurprisesurprise - Tim, painting him as a villain who treated Ben badly and manipulated him etc. Tim was the only HM whom Ben was given a poor and false impression of during his time as a fake evictee, based on Ed's Tim vendetta.
Ben also failed to win Big Brother, he was evicted, and Tim is still there. Ben, despite his humble, "Oh, I'm not going to win" talks to Australia via his photos/Sonia/the Diary Room/live feed etc, did think he had it in the bag based on the audience feedback he received (applause etc), his confidence in his endearing character, the propping up by fellow HMs/Sonia etc . The "See you in October" comment to his mother proved it. It's not such a stretch to think that Ben might feel cheated by Tim being an audience favourite and the potential winner.
So I'm not sure I place much stock in Ben's comments at all.

Sorry that is a bit of a far stretch to me. I see it more simply - Ben acted like he didn't like Tim because......he didn't like Tim! All of his former friends have had issues with Tim eg Mikkayla, Jade, Boogs, Heidi. Even Drew has complained many times that he cant trust Tim and you have to watch him. Who the hell does Tim actually get along with?

Yes Tim showed Ben compassion that night, and I wish Tim was like that more often. But I think Ben was also aware of Tim's nasty side, so overall still doesn't like the guy all that much.

Mikkayla, Heidi and Jade were all influenced by Ed. They all had "issues" with Tim as a direct result of Ed planting seeds, conspiring against him and telling them what a bad person he was.
Drew refers to Tim as his best mate. He said he would be "devastated" if he was evicted. Those are hardly the words of someone who doesn't "get along with him". Drew is not exactly trustworthy himself, so for him to say Tim isn't to be trusted is simply stating that he is aware of Tim's gameplay. It's not a statement of his worth as a friend.
Boog gives worse to Tim than she receives in return. It would almost seem that she has either been sent in to take him down or she's decided to do so of her own accord as her own strategy, while maintaining the "I'm just having fun, I'm just a bogan" persona.
Tim has made it clear from Day 1 that he is playing the game. He has never hidden it, unlike others.
Oh, and Tim showed compassion to Ben on more than one night.
Ben went to him and him alone for emotional support on more than one night. He has stated that he has a love-hate relationship with Tim. Tim didn't give Ben immunity from his pranks and silliness, as if Ben was somehow ill-equipped to handle it. He regarded him as an equal, unlike the other HMs who coddled Ben and treated him like an infant, most of the time.

But you are right about one thing. Some people who were very close to Tim did end up having issues with him, and the common thread among all those people was paranoid Ed poisoning their minds.

ugh i fully agree with everything you just said. great post!

People like Tim for the same reason they like Tahan or mikkayla , they're real.
However, I've noticed on this forum that in order to be viewed this way you have to have certain mean and manipulative aspects or that's simply not real enough! (Jade and Ben).

I like Tim but I object to posters thinking he genuinely deserves it more than others, that's being a Homer.

Tim has made the show for me. I think he's the best housemate I have ever seen. He's entertaining every day, he organises so much of the fun and games in there, he even impressed with his artwork. He has a soft side and has been a shoulder to cry on at times too.
One of the best things about him is that he plays the game so well. Very often housemates get complacent after a while, but I think quite a few upped their game to try and compete with him. He keeps them on their toes, and it made it a better show. He's been, wacky, honest, endearing, and has kept me entertained. Whats not to like? If anybody else wins it will be a travesty, and I hope Drew and Tahan make up the final three.

Stars to you! Great post and very good insights

Regarding Ben; about the punching bag comment, Ben got that from Tim himself and it was just a joke. On one of the live shows week after Ben was evicted Sonia asked Tim was he missing Ben and Tim said yes, he made a great punching bag. Sonia laughed and said Oh Tim... I think Ben was in the audience with his mom that day. That's where he got it from and it was a tongue in cheek comment to Drew when he repeated it, with I believe some bitterness mixed in that he was no longer in the game. Ben came there to win the money and is pissed as holy heck that he lost out. Isn't Tim's fault Ben was evicted.

Seems to me Ben's interview with Sonia showed clearly he isn't a shy nervous person at all, after each and every question he would turn and face the audience full on and try to give witty replies and was constantly trying to ingratiate himself in public opinion. I thought he was quite rude and dismissive of Sonia by directing all his responses to the audience instead of her. He isn't a shy, retiring person with special needs..Most of the housemates treated him like he needed special needs care, Tim treated him as an equal.

And when Sonia asked him about his stand up comedian gig, he flat out denied it. Even if he only did it a few times, he should have admitted it. His behavior in house and during the interview was that of a comedian delivering witty one liners and looking to the audience for laughter and applause.

He is also an act - at least to an extent.

He forcefully tries to act funny and dumb so we can like him.

Remember him in the first weeks? He was cocky, rude and how most of us didn't like him? Yep, that was his real personality.
