What's for dinner?

I really didn't want to add a side at all but my sister had some cauliflower mash left over so I added that. It was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting and I ate a vegetable today, so that's something.

I wish I were having steak! Yummy, and cauliflower mash is okay, I don't mind cauliflower any more, I used to hate it. Then I had it with cheese sauce a lot and it got okay, also my HM snuck it in the macaroni cheese. Conditioning is the way forward! We can conquer the humble vegetable.

I don't mind cauliflower mash, it's nice loaded up with garlic and butter, just a bit grainy. My dinner tonight was nothing special, just salmon with some veggies on the side.

I did have pecan pie for dinner one night and it is 100% your fault :p I was looking at your avatar and my cravings went into overdrive. So tasty though.

The mash was ok, it actually had vegemite in it. That's one thing my sister and I can agree on, we are both nuts for vegemite and have it whenever and wherever possible.

And a nice change for you allican. Are you still cooking for the multitude in your working hours?

After an atrocious lunch of two mince pies, a handful of crisps and an apple I actually had a pretty good dinner. A little bowl of spag bol and a rather more substantial bowl of ice-cream....meat, veggies, carbs and dairy! Perfectly balanced meal. haha.

I'm watching I'm a Celebrity, Get Me out of Here as we speak...

Sorry about the pecan pie Jessy_girl, I have to walk past some every time I'm at the supermarket too.

Hamsteaks with grilled cheese and pineapple on top, cob of corn, mashed potatoes and peas - Yum. I enjoyed it.

bahaha! Nice catch. Damn autocorrect! I've never had pecan pie, isn't it more a tart if it doesn't have a top on it?

Yeah I believe that that is technically the distinction, but I think only bakers and limguists like yourself get caught up on the technicalities :p I like the alliteration of pecan pie better anyway.

Ps - as always, your food yesterday sounded amazing. Bolognese is one of the few meals where I will not pick out the veggies. Not sure about the mice pies though hehe.

Haha. Yup, the limguist in me can't help it. Did you know that pie cases used to be called coffins? They were huge, inedible cases that were used to cook and preserve hideous mixes of dead animal parts, sometimes they were even re-used. Modern use of coffin arose from this...

Food was so good yesterday, I like Bolognese because all the veggies disintegrate. I make it for myself and put grated carrots, zucchini and capsicum in it. As well as mushies and onion and cook it so long it’s just like a vat of tomato-ie meat. Even though I know they are in there, you can’t taste the individual veggies so it’s all okay.

Mice pies are a delicacy, didn't you know? You should get on them, they're the next big thing.

I miss my grandma's mince pies, all the ones you buy in the store have mixed peel in them which I hate and have to pick out.

My HM made me porridge this morning with coconut milk and topped it with fresh blueberries, honey and chopped up pecans. It was delicious, and I was only a bit disappointed she didn't let me have ice-cream again...

Yes, and usually at home too. But I'm at my house in the sticks for a couple of days, blissfully solo :)

Haha, wow I can't imagine having as much knowledge as you do. Do you literally know the origins of every word? I feel like I have to very considered in composing anything you will read, the pressure is on!

Those oats sound amazing. My mum is working on some overnight oat recipes for me that she says will taste just like dessert, but I don't know about that. I will reserve judgement until I have tasted them.

Not in a million years! But there are some that I had to study for undergrad that are pretty engrained, and I love exploring the history of words, so I read about it a lot. Etymological dictionaries are the best, I read them like books. Don't worry about composing around me, lord knows I make enough of my own mistakes! Language is constantly changing, that is why it is so cool to study.

The oats are amazing! You can make them super sweet. I've made them before with cinnamon, brown sugar and apple puree and it's like apple pie! And because oats don't taste like much, if you put enough brown sugar on them it's all they'll taste of. Banana, honey and almonds is another good topping.

OMG, I love reading the Oxford Dictionary, and all the dictionaries in that gorgeous illustrated deluxe version with volumes on art and poetry etc.
Love the dictionary of quotations, and used to cheat something chronic writing love letters in my youth and impressing with my poetic quotes:)

My mother helped instil a love of the English language and all it's quirks. Out of the blue she would just declare a word her favourite for the week, she was very fond of a alliteration too.
And her favourite title was - The Unbearable Lightness of Being - I think I agree, it's so evocative and bitter sweet.

I'm thinking of studying something next year in language and culture, not sure what I want to do. may need to do something boring too.

Tonight I has spinach and ricotta homemade pizza. YUM.
I use the Lebanese flat bread as the base every time I make homemade Pizza.
I had pesto, spinach, ricotta, red onion, garlic and diced tomato on it. First time I've ever tried it, normally I just make a normal pizza with things like mushroom, ham, capsicum etc, but this was really good, I will be making it again.

Pesto is so good with most things, I love it with cheese on toast. Your pizza sounds yum.

I was productive too and made a huge pot of spag bol, left overs will get turned into Mexican and such.

And we just had a delicious mango each, perfectly ripe and juicy - and boy I just made myself want more

I like pizza! I usually have it with ham and pineapple. Tonight I had tuna and pasta. Since baby spinach is out veggie of the week I cut some of that up and mixed it through, then covered the whole lot in cheese. It mostly just tasted of cheese.

Last night I had chicken fried rice and while I tried to let my HM let me just make it with bacon, chicken and eggs, she made me put corn, peas, carrot and onion in too and it wasn't so bad. Would have been better sans veggies though.

I normally don't like pesto but the recipe called for it and it was nice on the pizza.

I've never used leftover from spaghetti to make Mexican before. What kind of Mexican do you usually make with your leftovers?

Ham and Pineapple are my go to toppings when I get takeaway pizza, there is this restaurant a few suburbs away and they make the best pizza, never again will I got to pizza hut or any other pizza chain.

Spinach is something that I have recently started to use more often, I'm trying to find ways to incorporate into more meals. Sadly I've been trying to cut down my cheese intake. I eat a block a week, but last week I only went through half a block. So yay for me right?

Your dinner from last night sounds so yum. It's no secret that I love rice and I love finding new recipes that use it.

With your veggie of the week are you trying to use it everyday? If so here is a recipe for a simple spinach recipe, it taste really good.

Yeah, it was pretty good. And I only picked out a few of the veggies.

As for spinach, it's pretty good cause if you put it in hot things it wilts down to almost nothing. I quite like it, but sometimes it's a bit bitter which can be a rude shock. As for cheese, man I love that stuff, but it's expensive so we are usually pretty careful with our consumption. My mum brought a whole block over the other day though cause I'm thesising and we're almost out of food so I went to town.

Thanks for the link. Yeah, with our veggie of the week we have to have one serving a day (bonus points for two). HM1 says something about getting us used to them one at a time. It makes for some weeks that are far better than others. Do you know what a week of cabbage does to a person?

LOL another cheese addict, cheese is my favourite food, cheese on toast heaven - and reminds me of dad. Saganaki is even better, no bread:)

I love every cheese I have ever tried except those weird amercan plastic things and English orange stuff.

I instantly fell in love with that girl on MKR who said she gets cheese for xmas. What a great idea, the French brie I love is $90 a whatever, slice is $5.

About the Mexican.
I make a very rich heavily tomatoed beef bol sauce.
Lots of garlic, & many spices etc, cooked for at least 3 hours..

And then left overs, get turned into, shepherds pie, or meat pies, or Mexican - get a Mexican flavour packet, I use taco it's the cheapest, or there are burrito, etc.
Just mix that in and voila, we use it in wraps and make our own burritos with salad & cheese, sour cream. Or add the same packet stuff for chile con carne, add red beans, done.
Add fresh herbs if you have them especially corriander
