the bbc adaptations seem to be going down the dark and depressing angle which i suppose makes a lot of sense.

unsure about malkovich but he's a good actor so he'll probably do a sterling job.

but i'll probably have to wait for it to be out on dvd in about six months and get it from the library to properly review it.

speaking of tv watched the third season of the love boat.

i enjoyed it as kind of a fantasy comedy thing.

all the main actors seemed to do well apart from the woman who played julie the cruise director. even for a show that didn't require much nuance she was truly awful. the only good thing she did was smile a lot.

as the season progressed she seemed to get less and less story lines whilst the other main cast members, who could act, got more.

I think I’ll struggle with anyone else besides Suchet for a while yet.

Have you seen any Fantasy Island? It has a similar format to The Love Boat.

no. i'm going to watch the 70's tv show Chips. reading the description of the show it seems very cheesy and lame. right up my alley of taste (except for tina arena which is perfect taste by me).

although it may be too lame by even my lame standards. if so then that's that.

yes, suchet is the best. i also enjoyed john moffatt in the audioplays from the bbc.

branagh overplayed a bit as poirot, playing him more as a comic character imo which is totally wrong.

suchet said in his autobiography that when he was meeting Christie's family members before he took on the role they said to him, and i'm paraphrasing here: "we must never laugh at poirot" and i felt that the branagh version of the character failed i that regard.
