Daft Punk will always remind me of skipping school when I was in grade 11/12. A bit of backstory in Canada our MTV was called Much Music and they had a show called French Kiss which featured French music. IIRC they also had interviews in French with French artists but I could be wrong.
Anyways on those days I’d usually throw on Much Music and play around on the internet, anyways this being the early 2000’s and Daft Punk being French they always got some play during that time.
I didn’t really get an appreciation for electronic music beyond that sort of popier sound until my late early 20’s. That said one also was dabbling in recreational drugs at that time too. Anyways back to my balcony raving….

This is the epitome of Canadian alternative rock in mid to late 90’s and early 2000’s. Matthew’s lyrics and vocals really capture that teenage angst.
It’s another band that takes me back to watching Much Music on a day off or after school. They were also featured on Much Music’s yearly competition CD called Big Shiny Tunes which were a Canadian Millennial must have. I think I had about 5 or 6 of them in my collection.

IDK why but I’m a big fan of gender swapped covers and this by far is one of my favourites… This is the perfect example of singing the song like one wrote it. I love how he still captures Alanis’s white hot rage but goes far deeper, to the point where the song takes on a completely new meaning. That last “you outta know”
