Today I ........

I think I've mentioned this before but in the case I haven't I started taking a GLP-1 medication in 2023 for weight loss, was on for just about a year, and lost about 50lbs (22.5kg). I was on Ozempic but ended up stopping for a few reasons and gained back about 20lbs (9kg) but have been wanting to get back on. My doctor ended up swapping for Mounjaro which activates two gut hormones vs one with Ozempic and I'm pretty impressed. Took my first dose yesterday and when they say it's more effective they really mean it. I've had a few minor side effects like heartburn (which was gone by midday) but I'm already feeling less hungry which is something that took me 3 weeks to a month on Ozempic to start noticing. Would love to get under 200lbs (91kg) again.

Good luck Kingston, I hope you get there.

Today I was just looking at street view where I last lived in Auckland in '96 . Dominion Road, around the corner, is now chock full of mostly Chinese restaurants and other businesses, seems it's turned into something of a Chinatown. Which would have been great when I lived there, I'd have loved that.

Looking at our old house, the pittosporums I planted in '94 have finally been unleashed to realise to their full potential, after having been box-hedged for quite a few years by subsequent owners/residents. They were 30cm high when I planted them, barely poking over the top of the rock wall (before the wooden fence was added), with the hope they would one day provide a buffer against the traffic noise on the busy road.

Today I went back to my eye surgeon for a check up. It's been 3 and half months. I was scared in case he told me something I didn't know was going on ... but... everything is stable, finally. I don't have to see him again for 6 months.
Hopefully, soon I will feel all my eye problems and surgerys are behind me 🤞🏻

First off congrats on the original loss of 50lbs - I am not sure I have ever been able to loose that much when I have tried. Sorry it didn't all stay gone, although at least over half of it did so you are still winning. The up/down/plateau cycle of weight loss and dieting is such a frustration when the weight comes back, especially if (as it usually does) it comes back quicker and easier than you lost it. I am wishing you all the best of luck with the new medication that it helps with no bad side effects, and you get to your goal.

Thanks. At my highest I was somewhere around 280lbs (127kg) and apparently the bigger you are the more you tend to lose. I’ve also been in office 5 days a week since last May… I doubt I’d have kept off as much if I was still home all day. That’s really what got me in to this mess in the first place, well and the pandemic depression etc.

As for the medication, other than the morning after my first shot I had a bit of a rotten stomach I’ve had none. It really is much more effective (at least for me) than Ozempic was. This is only week 1 and at the lowest dose and I’ve had very minimal appetite or cravings all week. Tonight I ate 2/3rds of my dinner, which I normally would have eaten and still been able to snack later.

I’m taking my next dose tomorrow and while it’s a few days early if I do get any nasty side effects it’s over the weekend.

I have PCOS so my body actively fights me when I am trying to do anything to reduce my weight. The worst I got was actually about 2018. I had changed doctors, and my new doctor started harassing me and fat shaming me (sending me for blood test after blood test because she was sure I must have diabetes or high cholesterol or something if I am overweight) which actually had the opposite effect and I gained 5kg. She was so happy when she found I had high blood pressure, but didn't believe me when I said it was related to the toxic work environment. I fired that doctor when her and a gyno decided I was too fat to worry about removing a growth on my ovary.

During Covid I did intermittent fasting and lost about 15kg which although it has fluctuated a bit, I have seemed to have kept off.

I don't actually eat very much so appetite suppressant medication I don't think would be very effective for me. That is also why I never looked into stomach stapling etc. I am on migraine preventative medication that is supposed to support weight loss - and I am one of those people that it has done nothing for! I did try Xenical years ago and that worked for a while but then I plateaued and then just put all the weight back on again.

Seriously W T F. That's terrible.

You should have seen the tantrum she threw when I finally stood up for myself! Very weird, gaslight type situation ensued where she ended up crying and saying I was being mean to her.

I avoided going to the doctors again for as long as I could and luckily when I did I got in to see my husband's doctor who was much nicer. Hopefully he is still there when we get back to Adelaide.

30lbs is excellent… Like you said it’s keeping it off that’s the hard part. Especially when you have a condition that is counter to weight loss.

As for GLP-1 medication I wouldn’t say it’s an appetite suppressant, it does slow gastric emptying which in turn makes you less hungry but it’s also a type 2 diabetes drug so it helps with insulin resistance, and encourages better choices when you are eating... For instance I get heartburn after eating high fat foods and a very upset stomach if I overeat.

Also when I was on Ozempic/Semaglutide I still very much had an appetite but without the cravings and desire to eat a family sized order of McDonalds in a single sitting.

Not so much today, but last week I started studying a bachelors degree in Film. Television & Animation majoring in Screen Production and minoring in Animation. After two long overseas trips that allowed me to finally spend time soul searching I've just decided to actually study what I'm interested in. Psychology was and still is something that I'm fascinated in but maybe not so much for a career, but at least I will always have it to fall back on if I need a plan B. This may not lead to anything, or maybe it will, who knows? I won't know unless I try!
