This and I got the sense that he was asking for support and either wasn’t getting it or being told it couldn’t be done. I feel for him in that regard feeling like you’re stuck in an endless feedback loop, yelling, screaming for your needs to be addressed only to be shut down and/or shuffled around.

Been through it myself with work and trying to find a doctor/mental health practitioner that would acknowledge the help I needed/put a plan in place to address things. Spent the better part of a few years simply being told I need to see a therapist and that was all I could do. It ended up just making things worse than if I’d just kept my mouth shut.

I’d also say that there seems to be this notion that when it comes to mental health that if something can’t be solved through medication and/or therapy that if a patient asks for anything else they must be trying to manipulate the situation/trying to dictate their treatment.

I actually had a psychiatrist tell me that if she were to have diagnosed me with something that it meant I couldn’t be trusted and would have no say in what her recommended treatment would be 🙄.
the things is, in our neoliberal hyper individualistic society, mental illness is treated generally as an individual problem that needs to be fixed with medical interventions in the form of therapy and meds, as opposed to a societal problem that needs to be fixed with improved socioeconomic outcomes for all.

Can't tell if this is an honest assessment or some sort of neoliberal backhanded insult coming from you.

This is where you lost me... Just STFU
I am NOT a neoliberal in any way shape or form.

Societal ills is a key cause of mental illness, take homelessness, if we just gave homeless people houses, AND wrap around support to stay in their houses, then their housing insecurity-induced depression/anxiety would have no reason to exist.

Yes i know government has a limited supply of money and some people have a more severe form of mental illness that is induced by other factors.

Not looking for a fight but this is pretty progressive for a self confessed Conservative Bogan from Queensland.

i am socially conservative but economically progressive.

i do not believe in giving vulnerable trans kids irreversible/toxic puberty blockers/hormones, i think acknowledgement of country is useless virtue signaling, i value innocence until proven guilty, and i am sick of seeing greedy corporations slap giant rainbows on their logos every pride month.

i do believe in universal free public education and healthcare for all, and guaranteed housing and secure jobs for everyone.

If you recite an acknowledgement of country at the beginning of a meeting just to tick a box then yes it is useless virtue signalling.

Or it can be about saying what the meaning of where you are is to you and maybe some of its history or a story about the area. Then acknowledging that the reason that it is there is because of all of those that came before you and looked after the land and waterways and give thanks. I see it as a sign of respect for Australia, it's history, and the people who live there.

But only healthcare I think is healthcare. None of this fancy, new aged, woke, mumbo jumbo 🙄
i do not agree with progressive interventions, often done with the best intentions but having either no positive outcome or a negative outcome, being passed off as "life saving healthcare".

Fair enough. When an acknowledgement of country is performed by actual indigenous people at a significant state/national event, then yes it is meaningful hence i support it, but when it is done by non indigenous people at just another meeting at work then no it is not meaningful hence i do not support it.

i also believe the government should own our essential services/natural monopolies, like power grids, gas networks, telecommunication systems, airports, seaports, etc.
