THE VIRUS 2020 - the good, the bad, and the ugly

It's crazy though. 60 people dying a day? And everyone is fine with that? WTF.

It's all very wierd. The whole thing is wild. Lockdowns and fear of the virus. Small number of cases are terrible. We need to wait for the vaccine. Then they aren't even vaccines, but don't worry the dictionary changed the definition of vaccine. Now we're open with high numbers of cases and no one says anything. Just pretend it isn't happening.

There's no one in charge.

What's the age group of the 60 people dying every day? If most of them are over eighty when most people die anyway then I can understand why the government isn't too worried about getting us back into lockdowns again.
The big problem is that there's no one in authority that is willing to treat the public as intelligent adults who can understand complex situations.

So we're all left a bit in the dark and have no real clue of what is going on. It's confusing and at this stage it seems no one in authority is either capable of doing anything and there's a deliberate plan to keep the public confused over it all.

People die constantly, to what extent is COVID fitting into that? An ABC article the other day mentioned excess deaths earlier this year. Yet that still isn't context. There's constant cycles of less deaths and excess deaths. Is that just people who probably would have caught a cold and died if not for lockdown? Who knows.

It's all a shit show.

They changed the definition of vaccines from giving you "immunity" to creating an "immune response," or "protection." A watering down of how effective a vaccine is in providing protection. In response to the covid vaccines not actually giving people immunity. Now there is a legitimate argument for this change, not all vaccines are 100% protection. Yet in the context of pushing out max vaccinations on the promise they provide immunity. When they don't end up doing that. Just changing the definition of what a vaccine is a dirty political move and cover. To change the promise they made to everyone in hindsight. "No we never said that, look at the new definition."

Just part of the stupid games they play with us.

For context of idiot above. I have had my 3 shots. Recently had the virus. The problem is that people like them don't understand nuisance. They just repeat the talking points they are told are what "good" people think. When it comes to covid, it is repeat what is allowed to say. They live in bubbles on the internet where facts contrary to what the "good" people are meant to think don't enter. Where they have a shield to dismiss anything that runs contrary to this. Must be Russian bots, trolls or a bad person.

Hence why they could google and see the CDC, Merium webster and others did change the definition. Yet they won't. It sounds off narrative and so must be wrong! I'm a bad person!

I have had a flu vaccination annually for the last several years, and those vaccines have sometimes been only 20% effective against the flu strain that has happened to be in proliferation that year. So... I don't know where you get your facts from about 'definitions' changing.

Flu vaccines are an educated guess at what will be the dominant strains of the virus for the flu season. We're lucky in the Southern Hemisphere that the dominant strains start in the northern hemisphere's flu season, and then move to ours. So they are better at selecting what is the most likely dominant strain. It is not always accurate though.

Once again, you can google and see endless stories about them changing the definition. As I said, there is context and reason. The issue is the current political environment around vaccines and it being in bad faith. Pretending we weren't told vaccines would end this. Then people now go, "no one ever said that." When it was the bargain we made.

Regardless, they are still vaccines. The definition has not changed, it has perhaps been expanded to include more types. Here is a helpful little article about the derivation of the word vaccine from your mentioned dictionary source. I will stop interacting with you now, and henceforth. God bless, you are not very bright.

My comment was only about the context for the changes. If you go back, I said there is reason for them. But maybe you're not to bright enough to do that....

It's all with in the larger discussion of how everything is a shit show when it comes to COVID and this is part of the reason why. No one knows what to think or what is going on. It is a mess. This is part of the reason why. No one is treating people like adults who can understand complex situations. Sorry for thinking you were one that could.

I see you have edited down your post... But this remains.

Anyway, pop me on ignore as I will you. Life is too short for headfuck, in my view.

Edits were stuff at the bottom for Context. Not substance of the main post.

No mind fucking going on. I'm sure others can attest to my good faith in this thread. After years of being told I'm an idiot for being from Melbourne and support Dan Andrews.

I wasn't saying you were a headfucker, and I am sorry if it came across that way. The headfuck is in the argument itself. I can't see it getting anywhere, given we do not agree on the basic statement you made, that I objected to - being that the covid vaccines "aren't even vaccines".

It was rude of me to say you were not very bright, but then I think you double-ruded me back! Let's leave it there. I should really go and do the work I am on here trying to avoid even contemplating...

Here is an interesting article about the notion of sterilising immunity...

The vaccines for Covid are not what was hoped for, and it does not help that this fucking virus keeps mutating... like certain posters. C'est la vie.

I’m glad they’ve finally wised up to him. I’ve been saying for years that his bumbling idiot persona was just a cover for something more sinister. I think his unhinged antics over the past few weeks have proven just how spot on my read was.
Definitely very weird. I keep missing his appearances. I‘m a wee bit surprised they left a couple of entries there this time.

I had no idea of all this. Truthfully I never saw them as nasty or menacing. That’s just personally me, but I had no idea they spoke like that to others. I must have missed all that stuff it it was always removed before seeing it.

Anyways going back to topic. Everyone within the family caught covid except the hubby early in the year. He caught it last week though. First time he went to the office in a while and three days later he came back positive. Nothing long lasting. He was over it quickly enough thankfully. I was more fearful of my new bubba getting it. But again thankfully no one else caught it.

It is helpful to see what he has been saying on his little visits though isn't it?

its like the never ending story mixed with jaws - as soon as you think its safe to go out something happens. I am sorry your family has all had to go through it. I am pleased bubs has been ok.

Thanks isee, it really was nothing though. Maybe because of vaccinations but I feel the version my husband had was much different to mine and the others, it was mild in comparison.
