THE VIRUS 2020 - the good, the bad, and the ugly

Yikes if true.

People need to stop licking everything.

Ha yes the other day I saw a guy that had just put petrol in his car at a servo, went inside must have grabbed a packet of chips whilst in there. Walked out eating the chips with his bare hands which he also just touched the dirty bowser pump to put fuel in his car. Seriously talk about playing russian roulette with contracting this virus, this guy is just asking to contract it. I know it's sad but seriously you have to think that everything you touch now with your fingers could potentially have this virus on it.

You have to be really careful not to eat with your fingers when you are out and about (possibly even at home). This damn virus is not only transmitted through the air but also on surfaces! Maybe the government should to an advertising blitz to drum this message home to everyone also. Can't remember the last time I saw a tv ad or something on the radio about the hand washing and avoiding touching your face etc.

It's not only the face masks, you have to also try not to touch your mouth, nose and eyes with your fingers at least until you have washed your hands with soap and water for at least a minute and even longer when you get home. You can never be to careful when it comes to this virus.

What about places like McDonalds? They have markers where you can stand and sit and where not, yet to get your Hamburger in the first place, you are forced to to touch the touch screens to order. I don't go there, but I can see how some people get confused.
And supermarkets like Coles.... new, more sensible checkouts have been installed, yet you are still encouraged to use a self-checkout. I haven't seen anyone using a stylus or wearing gloves at those checkouts.

To think that the authorities have to tell and remind us to wash our hands shows us where we as a 'civilised', modern society really are.
What we are lacking is common sense and awareness... something that used to be taught at home, prior to the digital revolution.

Another problem is the rebellious nature of a lot of people. 'Hit back and ask questions later'. Anything stipulated by the authorities is automatically viewed as bad, as an attack on my basic rights. Many not so enlightened Americans even claim that to be told to observe social distancing is against the constitution and to wear masks is against god's will. Go figure.

Second COVID test: negative. Annoys me though that I managed to pick up a cold somehow despite precautions.

Peta Credlin at 3:25: "In those states that are now pretty much back to normal, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania plus the two territories, let's get the rules back to normal too. Surely it's time in those states to insist that people on unemployment benefits have to look for at least 20 jobs a month. That's not more than one a day really, and not refuse any reasonable work that's offered to them."

Errrr no, it's not disruptive. The premier is just responding to this new and frightening virus. She is showing remarkable leadership imo. A true inspiration.

Do you think border closures aren't a disruption to businesses and the economies of border communities? The possible public health benefit of border closures does not invalidate what I said!

Of course it will be a disruption, but it will be even more of a disruption if the virus wrecks havoc within Queensland!

Also, I wasn't invalidating anything you said, just providing a different perspective.

What is your opinion on this?

Except due to the current economic state of the country we are now going to have a lot of people unemployed with highly specialised skills. Skills that 20 jobs per year for thier skillset are not going to come up, let alone 20 per month. And yes they could apply for anything, but as anyone who has been unemployed and applyed for anything will tell you that is not a technique that will actually get you a job. You will be weeded out as "over qualified" or a serial applier.

On the other end of the scale we will have a whole lot of graduates and school leavers with very limited job skills competing with people with 10, 20 30 years working experience for the same roles. It will be even more of a challenge than usual for the graduates to get experience. (unless they get into a grad program, which at the moment are not likely to be running as they probably mostly run in Vic and NSW)

There may also be people at the moment reluctant to take on hospitality jobs because of he very reason we are in this position - Covid. Even though I am not living in Victoria, I would still not feel safe working in hospitality with covid is around if I had to look for work when I suffer from asthma.

Mate the last time I ate at a McDonald's store was back when they still had the burgers already made and waiting on those steel lined trays. I think the last time I had Macca's was probably around 2005...lol. KFC though I last probably had around 5 years ago.

I know that the government has given all this extra money to the unemployed as a sort of stimulus to the economy, but is all that extra money actually getting pumped back into the economy at all? I am still wondering what extra expenses the unemployed suddenly have to pay during COVID-19 when compared to pre-COVID-19? I mean DOUBLE the dole payment? Yet the poor old pensioners stayed on their same standard payment throughout all this crisis except for 2 extra payments of $750 in 6 months. Still no way near as much as what the Jobseeker payments are! Where is the fairness in this crisis payment system?

Also for the record yes I used to be on the "dole" some years ago and I had to almost fight just to keep getting one single payment from the government. I was on the "system" for a while and well I was sometimes put through the ringer to get a crummy payment. I had done a few "Work For The Dole" programs also. Yes believe me when it comes to the "system", I have been there and done that for a while. Even at 20 jobs a month they are on a holiday! I used to sometimes have to look for 20 jobs a day! I even managed to get an evil "case worker (employment consultant)" sacked from a job network!...lol. Oh yes the old "take on any job offer", I still remember we used to say the "Consultants" had like a spinning wheel out the back with every unemployed persons name on it. It was just a matter of time until your name was spun on that "wheel" to get shoved into a dodgy set up "job" so they can claim their "commission bonus" from the government. If you refuse or don't go then they just cut your welfare payments off for a while. I don't think much has changed since then.

I sometimes wish I was on the dole now, don't have any mutual obligations, don't have to attend any appointments or work activities, and not only get the single payment but a DOUBLE payment! LOL! Unbelievable! Almost as good as that new lottery game "Set For Life"...lol

LOL... I avoid those places like the plague, but I see what's going on in there when I walk through the mall. They are hard to miss. There are usually a bunch of poor people who can't afford internet at home occupying tables with their heads buried in laptops... not consuming anything. I haven't found out if this is a part ouf our 'coffee culture' which we are so proud of.

I think the government is doing a pretty good job all things considered. I can't imagine someone like Anthony Albanese running the show.
I am aware of Peta Credlin's background and I am surprised that instead of supporting and encouraging the government, she seems to be doing exactly the opposite, if the last few videos posted here are anything to go by.

It's exactly what American Leftists are doing: Bring down the incumbent leader at all costs... but presenting no viable alternative both in leader or in sound policies. ...except, Peta Credlin is not on the Left.
She also has fallen victim to the temptation of peppering her complaints with figures and numbers which, if not presented within context, are utterly meaningless.
However, one number in the above video is NOT meaningless to people on unemployment benefit and that is the number '20'.
Credlin seems unaware that many unemployed rely on public transport and that in some states no concession fares are available for those on the dole. ...and because she IS NOT on the dole and DOES NOT rely on public transport, she has no idea how the fare money alone cuts into the budget of those looking for a job.

To be critical is not only a good thing, it's also important for a healthy society. Criticizing without offering an alternative however is useless. As Roosevelt so aptly stated: Complaining about a problem without posing a solution is called whining.

Went out today, people everywhere. Honestly, it was like a normal busy Friday down at the local shopping street. Carparks near full, people everywhere.

People really don't give a shit.

A lot of people lack basic hygiene or claim others are over sensitive.

As I understand it, the risks of catching this from touching stuff is minimal, if it wasn't we'd all be screwed. Still, basic hygiene. I'm already a bit of a germaphobe and so it doesn't change things too much for me.

I filled my car up today, used hand sanitiser that was in my pocket. Even still, back in my car I have a pump in the console and used it again.
