The Traitors

I'd actually say the decision made by producers not to have the final eliminees at the Round Table reveal their status hugely impacted the final result.

I still think too a Faithful should have the option to take it all at the end if they correctly identify the person standing next to them as a Traitor. I think at that point the power shifting from the Traitors to the Faithful would be quite apt. Obviously if they're wrong they go home with nothing and the innocently accused Faithful gets the pot instead, assuming they didn't also accuse, in which case they'd be no winners.

And their idiocy means we didn't get the scenario of all Faithfuls at the Fire of Truth for I think the first time.

I can't decide how I feel about the withholding the Traitor/Faithful status thing, but it does make sense.

Otherwise, the only way a sole Traitor can win in the final episode is if they have someone at the Fire of Truth that doesn't suspect them at all and hope they become the final two. The final murder gives away that there is still one Traitor, so if their statuses are revealed, the Faithful will keep banishing until they find them or the game automatically ends at the final two.

Revealing their status tips the finale quite far in the Faithfuls favour with only one Traitor.

Two weeks to go until the UK (and the best English-speaking) show of the Traitors franchise is back!

The US show can go fuck itself. I won't be watching it this coming year.

Meanwhile Siobhán McSweeney has been announced as the host of the Irish version. She was fantastic in Derry Girls and has won praise for hosting The Great Pottery Throwdown. Certainly ticks the quirky host box. The prize has also been confirmed as €50,000.

The first two UK episodes have been released tonight. Won't reveal traitors or eliminees (mainly as I can't remember names yet) but a couple of production points.

Ep 1: 3 of the 25 contestants have to leave the train on the way, one from each carriage. They have 10 minutes to decide, losing £1000 of prize money every minute they take to decide. There are 3 volunteers within a few minutes. I think most viewers and at least one of the eliminees viewers expect them to return as happened in the first series.

Also confirmed in the end game the finalists won't reveal their status. Not a fan of this myself as it gives too much protection to the Traitors.

In episode 2 a twist to the mission where along with collecting cash they can collect gunpowder and potentially stop tgat evenings murder.

I'll mark these as spoilers since episode 2 hasn't aired yet (as mentioned above), but the first roundtable has the first wildly incorrectly spelt name occurring already. 😂

Also some horny producer wanted to film this scene:

Really strong start in the ratings - over 5m viewers last night. Despite being a "hit" the first couple of series have rarely topped 3m.

Figured as much. Apparently iPlayer crashed for a few minutes after the first episode ended due to the number of people going to watch the second episode.

Yes - took me 5-10 minutes to get it.

Expecting something significant in tonights episode as for series 1 & 2 they released the first 3 episodes on opening night but only released 2 this series.

Another great episode. No result spoilers but we did see:
For those unable to complete their journey by train a Rail Replacement Service was in operation. Horse drawn though, so took a bit longer.

Hopefully there is a bit more to it, because otherwise its going to be a bit underwhelming. Since it seemed like an obvious conclusion from the outset.

And the Traitor/Faithful aspect doesn't really work with latecomers, although in the first year they weren't smart enough to realise after banishing one newcomer who was faithful they should get rid of the other just in case they were a traitor. (IIRC Keiran was recruited rather than a faithful upon his return).

Whilst I wouldn't go as far as saying the show is "style over substance" I do think they prioritise what tasks and twists look like over how they play out perhaps, but it is the staging and beauty shots which really sets the show out from other reality formats - and then the format and casting is there to back it up.

Tonight's episode just showing why this format works - and nothing to do with the format really and all about the contestants, including a bit of what at first look like accidental gameplay turning the course of events but actually the seed was planted by a traitor, though I don't think they dropped it with the intention of that outcome.

Anyway, after tonights episode I've decided who I think will win:
Leanne will get recruited towards the end and ultiamtely win.

US version starts today too - like last year three episodes released upfront then one episode weekly (which I don't think works personally). Wish it started a couple of weeks later to follow the UK version.

Such a toxic cast on the US version. The first season was genuinely on a par with the UK version but the UK one is now far superior.

I haven't even bothered to watch try to watch the new US season. I assume its going to be the same as the current UK show, just like it was last year - except with perhaps more scripted moments.

If its anything like last year, I assume the beginning of the first episode had conversations in the cars of someone asking "Who don't you want to be here that has also been on the show you're from?" and then they'll just so happen to answer with the name of someone that is also on their way to the castle. A section of the cast will either have no idea what is going on or putting in no effort because they're only there for the paycheck. Those that are overacting and focusing more on "creating great TV" are already angling to get cast on their next show.

🤮

Just my predictions.

Spot on. You wouldn't think it would be so important but starting on the train really adds to creating the atmosphere and making the show feel more epic in the UK version, which now feels the bigger budget production.

Apparently the premiere has reached 8.8 million viewers in consolidated ratings - which is just over 48% up on last year's premiere.

Show has definitely made its mark on the UK.

It's now bigger than Strictly. Overnights still over 5m in week 2 as well so expect it'll continue to add another 3m in the cobsolidated figures too.
