re COW, Josh actually said he was borderline on smacking ond chose No to be 'popular' with the crowd. he was shocked that he not the popular one ha ha.

People need to separate a smack and a beating - the issues are always mixed together and you never get a proper debate.

IMO pinching is nasty. I'll admit I have pinched but it's been out of anger not as a discipline. I think physical punishment needs to be separated between anger and discipline too.

I thought Josh said no, not because he thinks it's wrong but more he can not see himself ever bringing himself to smack a child. Trust, it's something few parents actually get enjoyment out of.

I was smacked as a child. Being called fat and "thunder thighs" at 50kg 162cm tall hurt far more.

My MIL happens to think "time out" was psychologically damaging to my kids. She hated it. It was shaming them in front of others etc.

We got smacked - not beat, not thumped, not whipped, just smacked

I think the point is to snap the child to attention so it actually registers isn't it? No face slapping or pinching required. As Jamie said he yelled and yelled and could not get through but one smack and he never did it again.

Agreed! Also, If a parent threatens a smack for doing bad things, they have to go through with it if the child continues. Once a kid knows your bluffing you lose all control....

ETA: thanks for the response RE: GNWorld. All seem to be in agreement there. (Allican, watch it anyway. Paul gets to show off his Vocal chords anyway :D)

100% Goffy. Always follow through. That's why I don't make snap groundings and other punishments when I'm angry. I tell them they will be punished when I decide what it's going to be and then sit down and have a think and ask myself if that punishment will bite me in the arse.

I whacked Emma across the back of the legs for farking about at my car wrestling over the front seat with her friend. I did yell. Several times. Loudly. At the whack she stopped the carry on and came home and deleted me off facebook. Ahhh the joys of parenting in the 21st century.

Seriously? Geez that's my daughters size/weight. She might be a lot of things but fat certainly isn't one of them.

I agree, psychological games and name calling is far more damaging long term than a smack. With a smack its over and done with, name calling and shaming can last forever. That being said, taking away electronic access is what works for me (ipod's, phones, computers, games etc). Anyone would think you've cut their arms and legs off..lol

Has anyone else found Newsradio, on about midnight or later?
I freaking love this show, Phil Hartman used to be on it until he got murdered by his crazy wife, he did lots of simpson voices and was hilarious.

How bad does the new Charlie's Angels look? Poor Farrah must be spinning in her grave.

Was it? Better watch it online, Hugh Jackman right?
I watched Ricky Gervaise instead, damn fridays have a lot of good stuff on at the same time.
I love Ricky. And it's a series of his standup, so far we have had one about animals, one about politics, next week I can't remember....

Yes, Hugh, Peter Kay and Stephen Fry. Oh, and Will Young, but I turned the telly off before he managed to get a note out when he performed at the end of the show.
I enjoy Ricky's stand up. Is the other one you're thinking of Fame?

Yep that's it, Fame, should be a cracker.

Watched online Hugh was gorgeous, bit bored with some of his other guests

Woohoo, The Number 1 Detective Agency starts tonight on the ABC, 8.30pm I think.

Has anyone else read this gorgeous series of books? Take a look at this, if they have done the books justice is should be great TV.
