My folks didn't change the locks, they moved interstate! Didn't mention it for 3 weeks either, despite daily phone calls. They claim that they told me but honestly I don't ever remember them telling me. 20 years later and they have stuck with that story.
I love the area near where Glasshouse was but the building was hideous. They went for the max of what they would be worth for the quality. I live a corner in from High Street and it's quiet where I am but I am a little further down where it's more parks and there isn't trams up this end.. It would be really busy/noisy where it is. Makes sense it'd be only overseas investors cashing in on the location and rent return potential as no one would spend that much to buy a rushed apartment made from a shitty renovated office. Go 5km further down and those prices can buy you a pretty decent house.
Glad it's over tbh. Felt for the teams who got less... Dee and Darren - I'm happy they got 10k. Kama for evils.

Stokes and Smith’s apartment, which featured a secret rooftop room, was nabbed by a young Chinese couple, both 20, on behalf of their overseas parents for $1,710,000.

Winning just $10,000 in prizemoney, Melbourne contestant Deanne told the shocked cast, 'I'm going to take the f*****g Bromley's [artworks]. It's a bad tale all round' while
Max backed her, saying 'all of us are coming back here and we are going to raid it.'
Speaking on the show, Deanne said without prizemoney to reward their efforts, it 'would be stupid to do The Block under these conditions and in this timeframe'.

Watching the auctions unfold on a live feed from inside the Block pop-up shop in Melbourne, Maxine's disappointing prize of just $40,000 - for five months of full-time hard work with new husband Karstan- saw her burst into tears before snapping at producers, 'Me crying will probably get you all another Gold Logie'.
The 24 year-old former beauty queen struggled to contain her emotions as she was comforted by Sydney native and Blockhead Jenna Susetio, who won $310,000 for her and husband Chris's apartment.
The sale of Deanne's apartment for $1.8m - just $10,000 above the reserve of $1.37m- saw the renovator walk back into the holding room in tears, after the mum-of-two had reportedly snubbed the auctioneer.
The auctioneer said the low price was because buyer Yue Pan, 20, had purchased Max and Karstan's unit for $1,710,000 just minutes before- leaving Dee and Darren without an interested party.
As the auction neared its end, the nervous group watched the final auction of Gold Coast couple Michael and Carlene's apartment, and as the home struggled to reach the reserve price,Coffs Harbour brothers Shannon and Simon burst into tears, overcome by emotion at the realisation they would win.
But third-place winner Max, looking furious, wasn't pleased with the results, boldly stating, 'This is not a happy ending.'
'I want a three-course meal - and I'm putting it on The Block's bill.'

It made me cringe a bit the entitlement some of these contestants had. Yes, it is upsetting not winning as much as you'd hoped but none of them are destitute. Max and Karstan got a free wedding (rings, dress etc) and I'm sure they'll all have opportunities opened up from them being on the show. I remember watching the season where a few were passed in and from what I remember they were all still quite civil? To snub the auctioneer and it even seemed like Scotty was a bit snubbed is just poor form, I think.

I do blame the judges for that, as they seem to wet themselves over the styling.
C&J were slammed because the TV was in the wrong place, who gives a shit about that. If you have the money to buy apartments like that, you can pay for it to be moved.

Not enough bidding baby boomer buyers to boost B-grade location in The Block Glasshouse 2014 auction results
The latest series of The Block Glasshouse tried to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
And the reduced pool of savvy potential buyers - and bidders - didn't buy into all the associated hype as the final three auction results limped over their reserves.
With a $1.6 million average sale price - reflecting around $6900 a square metre - it actually almost succeeded, though the viewing public was deprived if they only desired uplifting show business hoopla.
It was thwarted in the end by its b-grade High Street, Prahran location. For Sydneysiders it would be like flogging prestige apartments on Parramatta Road, Annandale, which has very nice houses away from its busy thoroughfare, though without the trams.
The most profitable selling market would have been student style - or Gen Y workers - rather than vast luxe given its proximity to Swinburne University with the 6 route tram out front and the railway very close via the Percy Street garage exit.
So the deep-pocketed baby boomer buyers that are the traditional recent Block apartment auction attendee either understandably didn't turn up or showed suitable reserve and mostly kept their hands in their pockets given the mediocre Prahran location. Couldn't imagine the baby boomers heading a few doors along to Misty’s iner, a genuine American diner right next door to a hand car wash at what one blogger recently described as the bleaker end of Prahran High Street.
The local gay population didn't appear to embrace much of the Glasshouse either.
Also property success is often premised on population trends so those big three bedroom apartments were perhaps oversized for the very obvious Prahran composition of households without children. It sits at around 70% compared to the 50% Melbourne average. Ditto the lone person households category in the last census sat at around 40% of Prahran households compared with the Melbourne 23% average. There were just the 99 households in Prahran with five or more occupants.
Also RP Data puts the median Prahran apartment price at around $510,000, and going backwards a bit after its recent peak, presumably because of the enormous increase in newly constructed stock. Just across High Street is for instance, ART, a block of 50 apartments that has incorporated supposed hip art into its eastern facade ands its foyer after a Facebook page where people could vote for their favourite. Designed by Rothe Lowman for developer Crema, ART included 26 one-bedroom apartments, 23 two-bedders and the three-bedroom, two-bathroom penthouse. The one-bedroom apartments range from 51 square metres to 76 square metres; the two-bedroom apartments from 69 square metres to 87 square metres; and the penthouse was marketed as 160 square metres. Back in 2011 the off the plan prices for all but the penthouse ranged from $346,000 to $719,000, so from $6700 a square metre to $9400 a square metre. The penthouse fetched $1.16 million on its June settlement, so around $7250 a square metre. The former petrol station-turned residential development was offloaded by the Deague family at $5.5 million after they scrapped plans to build a hotel as part of its "art" series chain.
The much desired $2 million plus hopes for the Glasshouse proved elusive. One Melbourne buyers' agent has egg on their face for suggesting the $2 million likelihood even on auction eve when the feedback ought have been obvious.
"This is reality … the property market is the one thing we can't control," bemoaned decor consultant Shelley Craft during the Channel 9 telecast.
“Something happened ….that’s not easily explained by me or frankly by anyone else,” producer Julian Cress told easily convinced, naive newspaper reporting attendees, adding they used the same valuer in each and every series.

The radio mentioned this morning that the contestants worked an average of 1200 hours over the course of 5 months. For the Duffy's and Jolly's who made $10000 profit, that works out to be roughly $4.16 per hour per person. I realise it's a competition and huge profits shouldn't be 'expected' but at that hourly rate I'd be shredding a few tears too. Oh well, they all said that they were doing it for the 'experience'.

LOL! I have to admit though, it's the only time in the whole season Dee acted with some grace and that was when the hammer dropped. I thought Darren was going to chuck a huge tantrum and I am a little disgusted he pretty much ignored Dee and left the room. Perhaps behind the scenes he did have a huge dummy-spit and that's why they are coming back?
Michael and Carlene handled their situation with far more maturity.

There were seasons where people made zero.
So many people sign up for reality TV shows & the majority get nothing - they understand the risk of this when they sign up yet when they don't get a wheelbarrow full of $$$ they bitch & whinge...
Watching it though I thought M&C got duped.. they could have passed it in but the auctioneer went back out to get it just over the line from a buyer even though it appeared they agreed to pass it in.. The auctioneer should have come back out & straight away said it was passed in. There was conversation about them having to accept a bid under Vic law but it was somewhat vague as to when it occurred... Who knows what was said, maybe an assistant from the Auctioneer told the guy for $1.39 you own it - very cheap... The auctioneers best interest is to sell it for his extra commissions not pass it it - he'll look after his best interests first over the sellers lolz...
But it was a fun result, I laughed - I love it when reality TV competitors don't end up with what they believe they're entitled too

It's a competition. There is going to be winners and losers. Just because you're a loser it doesn't mean you can have a tantrum. The money/benefits they'd get for being on tv outside of the show is probably quite a it.. A wedding, paid tv appearances, paid radio interviews, paid magazine shoots, stories... Appearances for meet and greets.. If they followed the previous shows they would know there is a potential to walk away with nothing.. It's a risk. The office block Reno was just a bad idea. Ugly complex. Rushed conditions.
