It seemed like an audacious task indeed when Scott Cam informed the Block Glasshouse's teams that they had a week to put together their first room.

That hurdle ended up being too high for Karstan and Max to overcome, as the Newcastle couple was unable to complete their guest's bedroom in time for judges.

Judges Darren Palmer, Neale Whitaker and Shaynna Blaze gave them a combined score of 17, a full 10 points lower than the current pairing in the lead - brothers Shannon and Simon.

Better luck next time! It was a tough week for Maxine and Karstan, who weren't able to finish their guest bedroom on time for Sunday's judges reveal

Big hole: The couple lost points for the splotches of unpainted wall, which were meant to be covered up with a cabinet

Winner winner chicken dinner! The big winners of the episode were Simon and Shannon, who scored 27 points for their 'simple and sophisticated' room

In fairness to Karstan and Max, their room being unfinished wasn't entirely all their fault. Just prior to the judges arrival, Max revealed he was let down but not one but two contractors.

'Number one, the blind and curtain guy forgot to pick up the blinds and curtains,' he said with a bewildered snigger, and concernedly added 'and the cabinet guy is meant to be here, but he isn't.'

They would have to show their room to the judges sans cabinet, which meant huge splotches of unpainted wall and many lost points.

Rough start: Karstan began the episode by explaining that his 'blinds and curtain guy' brought neither blinds or curtains, and that their cabinet maker had yet to arrive

Despair: Pictured is the Newcastle couple's reaction when they found out their cabinet wouldn't arrive in time for the judges reveal

Explanation time: They left a note for judges Darren Palmer, Neale Whitaker and Shaynna Blaze, but they weren't having a bar of it

The couple added a note to explain themselves, but the judges weren't having a bar of it. 'We don’t want to see anymore cute little notes in weeks to come,' Neale said, 'it won't work.'

Luckily for Karstan and Max, they won points on design and execution - of everything other than the unfinished parts.

'They’re liking the stuff that you ARE presenting,' Scott Cam said derisively to the couple.

A different perspective: Their room received praise for all of it's elements that were actually completed

On the flipside were Shannon and Simon, who scored three nine's for a combined score of 27 - losing a point for the unpainted dividing metal between their floorboards and carpet.

After praising the room for its simplicity and sophistication, Scott said the judges also enjoyed 'the return of the cactus,' in reference to the five foot plant that the brothers so proudly decorated with.

Shaynna gushed that 'it's a spare bedroom that feels like a master bedroom' before adding that the brothers must be 'perfectionists.'

Brotherly love! Simon and Shannon were confident about their room going into the reveal

Winning room: It was praised by judges for it's simplicity and sophistication

But they also made history on the show, and, in Shannon's opinion, in life, when their car was involved in yet another incident.

Simon, getting some shut-eye in the parked vehicle before their room's reveal, was awoken by a large thump, only to find someone had rolled into the car.

'I think it’s the first time in the history of mankind that two brothers have crashed the same car in two day,' Shannon joked.

Poor car: The boys' car suffered some more damage on Sunday's episode, when it was rammed by another driver while parked, after Shannon reversed it into a pole during the week

One for the history books! Shannon joked that it was 'the first time in the history of mankind that two brothers have crashed the same care in two days'

Trailing just behind them were Michael and Carlene, who scored 26 points for their guest bedroom.

In a funny moment, the judges praised the couple for their obvious consideration of the 'young, urban, professional inner city dweller.'

Carlene said in response 'young, urban...hmm, that might've been a fluke!'

Current standings: Shannon and Simon are in the lead with 27 points, followed very closely by Michael and Carlene, as well as Darren and Deanne

god i hate darren and dee, i so badly want to see them fail miserably.

I'm quite liking the brothers now. I hated them with a hatred previously unknown to mankind, but now I think they're kinda sweet.

And @tw2g, I think Darren is gorgeous! At the moment :)

'That is complete bulls***': The Block's AFL star Darren Jolly says he hasn't received special treatment on show after social media backlash from angry fans

He's a former AFL star player turned renovation rookie who's starring on Channel Nine's hit reality TV show The Block Glasshouse.

But now, Darren Jolly's celebrity status is being used against him as the 32-year-old former footballer and his wife Deanne, 42, face backlash from angry fans who say the couple don't deserve to be on the show.

On Monday, the Collingwood retiree spoke out against critics who say the twosome used Darren's celebrity to gain a space on the show.

Under fire: The Block's couple former AFL star Darren Jolly and wife Deanne receive online bashing from angry fans who say they don't deserve to be on the show

'That is complete bulls***. We actually applied for the last series of The Block [Fans vs Faves] the footy had finished, so I had resigned I was working as a chippy with a friend of mine and I said to Dee one day lets apply for The Block,' he said to Daily Mail Australia.

'We had to wait and go through the whole casting process like every other people - we applied for last year and we missed out, but the casting woman said they'd keep us in mind for future opportunities.'

Responding to suggestions that his football connections have given him a leg up the athlete was resolute.

'Any suggestions that I got through on footy or it opened up any doors is just far from the truth and not funny.

Unfair advantage? The retired footballer and his wife have been slammed by fans online saying they shouldn't be allowed on the show because they don't need the cash

Fiery couple: The Victorian duo previously spent a year renovating their Melbourne home which they bought for $1.35 million in 2010

'I can absolutely 100% say that is not true. I've had absolutely nothing to do with Collingwood since I've finished, which is another I suppose disappointing story.

'We went through the process by ourselves with zero help from anyone.'

Series nine of the hit show kicked off a little more than a week ago and the Victorian couple has received an online bashing from disgruntled viewers.

'How does Darren Jolly get a gig on this show give a battler a go not someone who has earned massive coin the last 12 years what a disgrace!,' wrote Laura Plus Mitch Pattison on Facebook.

Her sentiment was echoed by social media user Haley Stibbard.

Team winners! The competitive duo have been labelled 'ruthless' by other contestants

'I'm confused, why is Darren jolly on the block? I think esp after last season with contestants who've already won massive coin going back and winning even more massive coin the blocks a bit of a joke these days...'

The couple have also come under fire for getting VIP treatment on the show.

'I thought it was very unfair for them to say they were going home to their kids and then off they go. It means they can have hot showers and nice things you don't get at The Block at this stage of the game,' lambasted disgruntled Christine Segaert on Facebook.

'That isn't a level playing field for the rest of the teams.'

The star athlete who reluctantly ended his football career with the Magpies last year, recently completed his building and construction certificate four at night school.

Renovation rookies! The Victorian couple are facing tough competition on the show from (left to right) Michael and Carlene, Karstan and Max, Simon and Shannon, Jenna and Chris

The Melbourne-based couple decided to apply for the show at the end of 2013 with Darren revealing on The Block's website that they made the decision 'to give the new chapter in our lives a bit of a kick-start'.

With Darren's practical skills and Dee's eye for interiors - she formerly had her own fashion label Sophie Penberthy - the couple are no doubt going to be a formidable force on the show.

In April, the couple sold their self renovated Surrey Hills three bedroom Edwardian house for which they paid $1.35 million in 2010.

They spent a year gutting the Melbourne property employing registered builders to do the structural work, but managed to deliver the rest of the work for $110,000 after receiving quotes for the work for $250,000.

They're clearly adopting a similar approach on the show as the father of two aims to take on the bulk of the work himself.

On Sunday night's show the fiery twosome came in third in a nail biting episode that saw hipster brothers Simon and Shannon take the first room reveal for their guest bedroom.

A little over a month ago The Block's Dale Vine told Daily Mail Australia that, 'kids will happen when they happen.'

And now it's been revealed that the lovable tradie and his wife Sophie were pregnant at the time, posting two precious snaps to social media announcing the exciting baby news.

On Sunday night, the proud parents-to-be shared a picture of their 20-week sonogram on Facebook and Instagram, and another of Dale, 32, reading 26-year-old Sophie's belly a bedtime story.

Christmas baby! The Block favourites Dale and Sophie Vine announce they're expecting their first child

'@sophie_vine and I have kept a secret for 20 weeks now, and when we asked our 'baby to be' if it was cool to tell everyone at the 20 week scan, he/she gave us the big thumbs up!'

He went on to reveal that the little one will arrive in time for Christams: 'Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew baby coming in December! #LegitUltraSoundPhoto #DefinitelyMyKid #CantWaitForOurChristmasBaby #AlliWantForChristmas #FromRoomRevealToBabyReveal.'

Sophie followed up Dale's post with one of her own accompanied by a black and white shot of Dale on bended knees reading to his unborn child.

The bubbly blonde is wearing a loose grey hoodie in the shot, barely showing any sign of a growing baby bump.

'@vineyd 's so excited about our baby arriving in December that he's practicing his bed time story voice already - although the 'chime' sound effect he keeps making at every page turn is getting a little annoying xx #babyvine.'

The Geelong-based couple, who first appeared on the series in 2012, celebrated their first wedding anniversary in April.

Dale returned for a Fans vs Faves series in 2014 where he and pal Brad Cranfield walked away with $507,000 on top of the $355,000 won in 2012.

Was laughing so hard at the fact Dee had to stand on a box.

:hilarious:
So awkward!

I think they should have done the contestant judging before they heard the results of the judges.... And I hope there isn't a drawn out second scores revealed segment.

I agree - seemed a bit odd. I guess it is The Block "tradition" for them to look at other peoples apartments after judging? I think it would be more interesting before.
They're already annoying me by just rehashing the judges comments.

I feel sorry for Chris and Jenna who were told off by Keith for wanting to hire a painter. This is not House Rules - Were talking about 2million dollar apartments here, if they can budget for it, why can't they hire a painter? Even just for a couple of week so they can watch and learn.

Lesson to future block contestants: get painting lessons before you start.

I wouldn't have a clue how to paint a room and finish well, my brother is a professional painter / decorator.

The contestants have to be the ones to paint so that they can show us all-night painting montages.

Yeah I found them all boring tbh.

OK so it's 8pm and we are still on the couples inspecting the rooms...... Oh wait now they are talking about scoring.

I didn't really love love any of the bedrooms. I mean don't get me wrong they all looked great, I just didn't find myself drawn to any particular one.
I agree. I did think the boys deserved the win though.

So annoyed. 2 nights of 'reveals and scoring' now. Arghhhh
