The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition 2025 ft. Gretel

I watched to see Gretel, too. Seeing her brings back so many great memories. No one else has ever come close to her since she left BB.
I'll be recording it as I have so much trash already backed up to get through šŸ˜…

Good to have you in the chat Febs! Hope you can get through the trash ASAP šŸ˜†

I'm off sick with some kind of virus so I'm hoping to catch up all today. I also sucked in and subscribed to YouTube premium as ads were driving me nuts lol

So just watched Ep 3 and my goodness Beau is just terrible with his lame jokes and "banter" with his pit stop sidekicks. So tedious. And his voice is like Scott Cam which makes it even worse. Gretel and Epiphany are killing it! The TikTokkers are painful. The young pottery judge guy was wayyy too lenient. And if I'd accidentally chose painting over scrubbing I'd have switched to the other task the moment I found you you had to do the sanding.

I used to really like Beau, but I went off him a bit last season.
I saw him bragging (or kind of bragging) to that wee Asian bloke that he'd been a football player, and the guy didn't look interested at all!

Okay, I'm on to it. First episode on tenplay. I'll have to endure the ads, but I'm writing, so I can do the two at once.
Tick-tockers - celebrities? And who are Dom and Marx?
The Buddhist kids are so cute 🄰

Youtube premium is the one subscription I feel is justified to pay for. I watch YouTube every day, a lot for background noise and I refuse to watch ads. Especially since I come from the generation that tee up with it, I can’t handle ads at all.

Omg agree times a million! That scene of him telling the pit stop greater he was a rugby player and is really strong made me eye roll

Just watch Youtube in Brave browser and you don't get ads.

I never watch Australian TV but thought I'd give this a go because 1) Gretel. 2) I like the US version.

But everything about this embodies how trash Australian TV is and why I never watch it.

1. Absolute no bodies being labeled as celebrities.
2. A host with generic Hamish and Andy vibes that I have to skip past every time.
3. Far too much fluff. I want to see them travelling and doing tasks, not hearing about their life stories or constantly commenting on what we've already seen happen.
4. General subpar production values. TV from Temu vibe.
5. Endless replays of events to pad out the run time.
6. General cringe of aussies travelling.

It's just so tedious. The poor sidekicks have to pretend they have a clue what he's on about and laugh at his "jokes".

Also he touched the monk several times. Not supposed to touch monks!

Yes, a lay man can touch a Buddhist monk, especially if it's for a practical reason like applying medicine, though it is generally avoided in Asian cultures out of respect. Laypeople should not initiate physical contact, such as shaking hands, and should instead use respectful gestures like the anjali mudra (palms together, fingers pointing up). In any doubt, it is best to refrain from physical contact to avoid disrespect or scandal.

Having said that, I have received a hug from a monk, one of my friends at the pagoda in Phnom Penh. Also there are lots of gay monks but that's another story so that remains a fantasy. Oh no did I say that out loud. Better stop now.

Gretel is still so beautiful. But the contrast between rewatching old BB seasons to then almost immediately seeing her again, but aged more than 20 years, is so jarring. And even kind of sobering? If that makes sense.

I'm glad you brought that up. I was also surprised at how much she's changed. I have to admit I was at my peak in 2001-2007 as well though.

Sleeve, sleeve, hair, sash ... Toyota! 🤣 That was fun. And Beau's check-in mate was really lucky he didn't speak English. Enjoying this more than I expected.

It is such a joy to be watching Gretel on TV again. She is such a crack up. When Gretel and Epiphany were rehearsing their dance: (To Epiphany: ā€œI don’t know if it matters, but your shirt is inside outā€) šŸ˜‚ Honestly, I miss her humour and presence so much.

She doesn’t have much screen time, but when she appears it is wonderful. She should really be one of the main characters though. What other fabulous moments from Gretel have we missed?

With tomorrow’s episode with the car breaking down. I have a theory about which team it is.

Spoiler Alert!
At the end of Episode 3 (Wed episode), they had a preview of the car Gretel was in, and it wouldn’t start, so unfortunately, I think it is Gretel and Epiphany having the car problems in the next episode. I really hope this isn’t the end of them in the show. It could be their downfall. It would be such a shame because they have been killing it so far. This episode also looks to feature a task with keys which Epiphany was shown with in the pre-season promo trying to open a gate in the rain and Gretel was trying to be supportive to her but instead annoyed Epiphany.

I really enjoyed her narration of the canoeing task in the first episode. Was very funny

Unfortunately, that's what happens when you let your hair colour go. It is terribly ageing. I'm going through this at the moment with my over 50's + clients. Some are letting their colours go, others are determined to keep colouring for as long as they can.

They were the first team to check-in today! Impressed. Love that woman more and more.

There was a brief moment this ep where Gretel spoke about her time on BB (the show accompanied it with pics of her hosting), but she completely avoided referring to it by name. I need to go back and listen to what she said again, but it was something along the lines of getting lost in something as big as that and having to step away from the spotlight to find yourself.
