Geez I wonder why that is? Rich people have no worries about not being evicted and put on the street or where their next meal will come from so I would assume they would be a lot happier than a poor person. Also a poor person will work 4x harder (minimum) than a rich person and get a 10th of their salary.
Has anyone ever met a happy poor person that wasn't a hippy? If Ryan is rich then its like being able to afford to put on 20 numbers in the lotto than the regular 7 giving them a much higher chance of winning even more money.
Yes this was particularly directed to you, congratulations on your detective skills Poiro.
I'm not ashamed to say I've come from a privileged background. Are you going to apply all your shit to me? BECAUSE you have no fucking CLUE M8. I have never ever taken for granted how lucky I am. I've dedicated a significant proportion to my young life to helping those less fortunate than me (for one of many examples, check out the confessions thread).
Do not make assumptions about people with money. There's no condition to enter Big Brother that a person should be broke in desperate need of the prize money. Yes, some people may deserve the money more. But I don't think that necessarily stems from material possessions before going on the show. I'd rather see a millionaire watch Big Brother and give it to a charity than watch some person who's been poor all of their life squander it on an around-the-world holiday and three year life of extravagance. My point is, your focus should be on how the person uses the money. Which you can't determine before the winner is announced.
I do agree that it is easier for a rich person to be happier, but it's not an assumption that can be universally applied. I personally have had a lot of hardship in my life, not that I pity myself because I recognise how (despite everything) how lucky I am. It's not about how much money I've had. But what I've made of it and if I've not taken that for granted. What happens if Ryan was some huge philanthropist? Alternatively, what happens if the winner was in desperate need of money but squandered it on ice? Again, it's how people act in relation to what they have and what they don't.
Also, a lot of rich people work their asses off to make the world a better place. In Australia, let's not include global poverty, true poverty is almost negligible. Australian poverty is relative. In Australia, some of the hardest working people are the richest. Just because we see on TV wankers like Gina Rineheart and Alan Jones making million dollar bonuses without doing shit doesn't mean everyone that is well-off is like that. Half of my family was truly part of poverty. Forced into hard labour, raped and subjected to horrendous living conditions in Europe from the 30s onwards. My other half was much more fortunate. BUT, not once did my family ever take this for granted. My Dad has worked his fucking ass off to provide for our family. My Dad gave up jobs, promotions and more to spend time and spend every dime he earned trying to cure his dying wife.
Yes poor people often have to work harder, but again it's not universal. If you have a problem with it, a problem with the CAPITALIST SYSTEM WE LIVE IN, I suggest you move to Mali, Nigeria or Sudan and experience real poverty, oppression and exploitation. I regret every day the inadequacies of global justice, and I can tell you now that many people appreciate what they have and try to improve our world. You cannot apply your own grievances to a whole "class" of people.
ANYWAY. All of this is just to show that: MONEY is NOT relevant to a person. It does not define a person. It does not apply to all people in the same way. I don't go around saying anyone with less money than me is a plebeian, uneducated, and a junkie. Nor do I assume all black people like watermelon or chicken. Nor do I assume that all gay people have AIDS. So don't apply such assumptions to people who are "rich". I'm fine if people have a problem with Ryan (look, he can be a bit of a cunt sometimes), but to have a problem with him for his material possessions is a joke. We have no idea about his family's financial situation in reality, we do not know how they use whatever money they have.
And yes I have met happy people who aren't well-off. Because they realise material possessions aren't everything. If you want to argue this: Refer to my above that yes it is easier etc...
Instead of judging people about their money, maybe we should judge them by their behaviour. Maybe instead of forming presumptions about people, we need to know how they use whatever benefit/disadvantage and how it impacts their lives.
Oh and
@MADONNA: I'm thinking we get on the Ryan bandwagon. I can't stand David anymore. Sorry David fans.
Disclaimer: I am not a cunt. Any dickish examples used here were used to make a point. All humans should be treated equally, and I would love for nothing less than the eradication of global poverty xxxxx
