Although shows like Packed to the Rafters and Offspring sat well alongside them and as we entered the streaming age there should have been far more opportunities for them to sell scripted content abroad, but we know how petty and arrogant the Aussie FTA networks are so whilst elsewhere the likes of the BBC and ITV were happy to work with Netflix and Amazon to co-produce drama the Aussies would rather fill their networks with cheap content rather than work with a possibly rival for mutual benefit.

Channel Nine did at least give us Farscape. I wish they had done more like that.

Once the commercial networks started stripping reality it was all downhill from there. Big Brother kicked it off, but at least the main daily eps were only 30 minutes. Those were the days.

So maybe the success of BB was what inspired other TV networks to strip their reality hence send TV in Australia to the wall two decades later.
