Ratings Thread 2013

Dancing with the stars is so overrated. Who actually watches it.

Maybe that's why Evictions are on Wednesday now cause of the show S.H.I.E.L.D.

1.33million viewers (prelim figures, likely to be more) watched DWTS lol!

You know I just had a bit of a connection revelation. Reading an article on TV Tonight, David Knox states:

Dancing with the Stars stepped back onto television screens last night and proved once again why Live television is still broadly appealing. It topped the night with 1.33m viewers (Preliminary) which is a very good average for a show that run shy of 3 hours by just 10 minutes.

Big Brother honestly has lost the 'event tv' feeling with Channel Nine. I don't think they really understand what the show was. I'm still an optimist. I think it will be back in 2014 and I will still watch every episode. However it doesn't 'feel' like a live spectacle. We are almost never shown actual live footage from the house, Sonia's live interviews with evictees are a poor man's cousin of Gretel's interviews, nominations aren't shown live, neither is showdown games. We have no actual live feed and no up late. As stated above live TV is still broadly appealing. If even a lame concept like DWTS can pull 1.3million, what is BB doing wrong?

I am a super-massive BB fan since the very first episode and haven't missed a single episode since, whether watched live or caught up online or PVR'd. Tonight I will be watching S.H.I.E.L.D. And catching up with BB online tomorrow....
Why? I don't actually feel the urgent need to see Live Eviction, live. It's not really event TV and I don't feel like I miss anything by watching it online later, and I am a super massive fan of the concept. I can only imagine how casual viewers feel.

So in answer to your question, Goon, Who actually watched DWTS?
Answer: people who are drawn to LIVE event television. The crowd who have unfortunately NOT been captured by the producers and network behind BB

I watched the last 10 minutes of DWTS - it actually wasn't that bad.

Well said and I completely agree. Plus them lying that BB is LIVE TV doesn't help the situation!

Ditto.

Live Eviction - WEDNESDAY 2ND OCTOBER 2013

818k - #8 in total people.

#3 in 25-54 demo, #2 in 18-49 & 16-39 demo.

Ouch! Not good for an eviction!

Not too poor. Only beaten by SHIELD (and nine news in 25-54).
Only beaten by home and away and SHIELD in total numbers in the non-news shows.

I'd think Nine would find these numbers acceptable

Why do people watch Dancing With The D-Listers?!!

I really would've thought we might've got the magic million last night :(

It feels like the second half of this season has picked up but feels like the ratings are declining again :\

Nominations - Thursday, 3rd October 2013:

732k - #7 in total people.

#1 in 25-54 & 16-39 demos and #2 in 18-49 demo.

Low numbers but actually great results. Beaten only by Home and Away other than news broadcasts in total numbers.
Beaten by How I Met Your Mother in 18-49.

It seems like people still don't understand why we need to focus on the demos more than anything else.
the Demographics are only recorded for one sole reason.
ADVERTISERS.
Advertisers want to be able to spend their money as efficiently as possible to reach their target audience. They do this on tv by looking at what tv shows rate best for their target.
What does Ch 9 want? Money.
If lots of brands want their product advertised to their specific audience during a particular show, Ch9 can jack up the price.
total numbers doesn't matter because if the right people can't be targeted for advertising, advertisers won't advertise in it.
its 100% about the money.

I hope its clear enough, I'm typing in my phone in a rush. Possibly missed key points to my argument.
