Post Something Interesting

While what has happened in Burma and Thailand has been devastating, I saw this image today and feel very fortunate to be living in Cambodia.

Is that the earthquake belt?
Stay safe Timmy.
I work with a girl from Thailand, her family are all safe as she said they're in the south.
Frightening ! You never know where it's going to hit.
Watching some of those buildings come down was terrifying.

Yes that's the last 50 years' worth of quakes registering over magnitude "4". I'm in the big grey area in the middle with none. I haven't felt a quake since I left NZ in 1996.

Some scary footage indeed coming out of Bangkok and Mandalay though. I suspect the death toll could be >10,000 when they finish clearing it up.

That footage looks terrifying, poor people 😞

From the Climate Council. Incredible really:

It took 68 years to reach the first terawatt of solar power—then just two years to hit the second.

To put that into context, 2TW is equal to the whole power capacity of India, the US, and the UK combined, and enough to power 1 billion households worldwide! No other energy-producing technology has grown this quickly.

Let’s hear it for solar power!

This article is spot on about the decline of social media. Instagram in particular I used to really enjoy, but it's hard to spot posts from your friends amongst all the ads and suggested posts. Yay algorithm!

As someone who has been looking to start up a business I keep being told I need an online presence. I just feel like I would be fighting a losing battle starting an instagram page now!

Maybe we should both take a look at Flashes for Bluesky - Bluesky's Insta alternative. Oh, it's only on iPhones so far, no Android version. That'll limit your audience even further.

Especially problematic since I am an Android user myself lol. I have thought about bluesy in general but just get the feeling the user base in nz and aus is pretty low
My sister sells jewellery she makes at home on Insta, but mostly sells to an artist in the US she followed and befriended. So if it wasn't for her I don't think she'd be shifting much. Doesn't take a lot of effort to give it a crack though.

I think part of it for me is a fear of putting my art out there that I have got to get over. In general as you can tell I tend to lurk far more than I talk on all platforms so I need to just put myself out there more - feel the fear and do it anyway bullshit bullshit!

I work with a few other hairdressers who rent seats now and have started up their own businesses. They're all on Instagram.
I've had my own business renting a seat in a salon since the idea first emerged and I've survived wholly by word of mouth - those days have probably gone. I guess it's a good if you're wanting new business (which I'm not now)

Baby-steps, Isee. Do a trial run with one or two of your artworks and see how it goes. You can always delete the account.
