@missnicole277 If they won do you think they'd be happy? I know if I didn't win I would be just as grateful.

Jade Albany ‏@JadeAlbany 34m
@timdormer @missnicole277 i didnt win and im still eternally greatful. Yet they come back for season2 if thats who ur referring to

Well Tim I think was definitely talking about the girls from MKR - I think Jade may be thinking he's talking about the sisters from the Block?
Doesn't sound from this like he's talking about Tully though.

It would be so unlike Tim to say anything negative about Tully in public. It does sound like Jade is talking about the Block twins (I'm not up on anything they might have said along these lines), but I'm still not buying it from Tim, because of the timing among other things. I think it's a real reach, sorry.

Whilst I understand where you're all coming from I don't believe English should be optional as it's a very necessary evil even for those who struggle. That being said I think work can be done on tweaking the syllabus, in particular returning to the basics and moving away from the almost singular focus they seem to have on critical literacy/comprehension. For example as great as the Bard's works may be they have no place in school level education because in all honesty the language is too far removed from today's to serve any purpose other than frustrating the hell out of students and putting them off completely.

As for those with learning difficulties I think real progress has been made in the last decade or so in understanding and easing some of their burden. We're seeing more and more alternatives for those who are struggling and a relaxing, albeit very gradually, of entrance requirements for tertiary education. Things like OPs (or whatever your state ranking is) aren't the be all and end all. Just last year my nephew finished high school and got a less than desirable OP and subsequently wasn't accepted into his first choice course (or second for that matter) but he contacted the uni directly to ask them to reconsider which they did. That's not to say it doesn't suck for today's students but it does suck considerably less than in the past.

I find Jade's spelling mistakes mildly entertaining. Not in a nasty way. I'm not a big fan of the grammar/spelling police. It's just interesting to see what she comes up with. Dentle is my favourite. A combination of dental and gentle, which is exactly what you want when you go to the dentist. It's almost poetry.

That is not true.

I believe you either have a natural affinity towards learning, or the determination to learn and improve, or you don't. It is up to you as an individual. I would suggest if your son really had a passion and a genuine interest in analysisng poetry and interpreting novels, he would find a way to do it.

We all have the capability to improve, but it is almost impossible without self belief, determination and perseverance.

That's certainly not the case for everyone so maybe consider that before insinuating that another forum member's (currently depressed) son is lazy.

I get what you're saying and I certainly wouldn't put it past Tim to have a dig at Tully, or for Tim to have a dig at anyone really, he does do that.

However, I just feel that his comment doesn't really respond to Tully's blog as much as it does the MKR's news.com.au article. Tully wasn't really whinging about her life being difficult. Just explaining the complexities of her life situation. MKR chick having a straight out whinge as to how she was portrayed on the show.

I could be wrong, but unless definitely proven otherwise that's how I am choosing to look at Tim's tweet. I also kind of support his tweet if that is who he is referring to. It annoys me when RTV contestants complain about how they were portrayed. Tully has never done that.

Edited to add: as to the timing of Tim's tweet, the MKR article was published at 8pm last night.

Aside from being a firm believer in the importance of Shakespeare, I'm with you. I think fixing education should be about finding ways to help all students better navigate their obstacles, not simply removing them.

Looks like in addition to potentially writing the ending to her own TV career, her thumbing of the journalist has caused him to write a rather unflattering article that even says she had a "foray into heterosexuality" - I'll let you judge how you feel about that statement given her own comments on her sexuality (and her liking the opposite sex could hardly be called a foray anyway)

I'd be curious to hear if what Kelly said in that article was discussed when Tim was on the Kyle and JackieO show this morning and that's how he was made aware of it.

I liked Trala's comment, @smurfette, I was not implying by liking the comment that I thought your son was lazy. I liked the comment from the point of view that we have the capabilities to not limit ourselves. Just wanted to clear that up so you don't take offence smurfette :)

Haha That's clever!

I wouldn't put it past Tim, but I don't think he was referring to Tully or her blog. Tully said she did her blog as a way to defend Kelly from MKR so I think she's (Kelly/MKR) the one getting criticised...including by Tim.

Thanks @Sweetgeek.

Both my daughters and I have spent countless hours working with him to try and help his understanding, so it is certainly not a case of him not trying or not wanting to learn - but now the only focus of his mental health treatment team and myself is to get him through this year without him opening a vein :)

Interesting comments on the news.com.au article and very few are supportive of her.

news.com.au is filled with hateful posts on almost everything published on there. Moderator lets people say whatever.

The internet is good for some things but I really dislike how people think it is good to be hateful and uncaring on the internet in many places.

I know this is a first - but I agree with you Pookie
